WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, KC (1 Viewer)

Doug Kyed
Patriots wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster was at 60% this time last year. Now, he feels 100% for the first time in his Patriots tenure.
Reminds me of Fred “best shape of his life” Taylor.

Choose no more than two:
  • in the best shape of his career
  • the energy at camp feels different this year
  • he put on 10 pounds of muscle in the offseason
  • this player is poised for a breakout year
  • high ceiling / tremendous upside
  • their new coordinator is a better fit for what they want to do
  • the players are going to benefit because it’s year two in this coordinators system
  • the new position coach is going to be better at developing players through more effective drills
  • ETA (cannot believe I forgot) - this is the first time since my rookie year I’ve been completely healthy.

You nailed it. These are the lines we hear every year about a myriad of players; taken directly out of the handbook for coachspeak!

I will add a couple . . .
  • He is unguardable in practice
  • He looks like he is shot out of a cannon

• he’s working hard to show the fans why it was smart to bring him in
• never seen him focused like this.

It goes on and on. Every year. 😂

@32BeatWriters
“Smith-Schuster's caught three passes in team drills through four days, and his only target Sunday got knocked away from behind. He went 1-2 during 1-on-1s. Despite having an offseason to rest his ailing knee, Smith-Schuster has struggled to separate at any level…”

Been cooked for years.

First three seasons he had long plays of 97, 97, and 76 yards.

Longest play in the four years since then is just 53 yards.

I believe injuries sapped him of his speed and explosiveness. You see it in the lack of big plays and in a general YPR decline.

JuJu didn't have much speed to spare in the first place, so dropping from a 4.5 type of guy to 4.7 turned him into a pure chain mover glorified TE.

Just read in the Athletic he is being signed by the Chiefs

Thanks for the bump, I added him for funsies. They like him over in Kansas City, he did help them win a Super Bowl after all. He went for 78 / 933 just two years ago. To be frank, I'm bumping Mahomes up a few spots.

Kelce, Rice, Hollywood, Worthy, and now added Juju back into the mix. He's going to throw for over 5,000 yards this year.

He's probably a better real world signing than a FF pickup. After not being able to rise to the top of the Pats WR room, its clear that he's very average these days.

Probably means the end of Toney and maybe Sky Moore.
I'd put JuJu's over/under at 25 catches. He'll be no higher than 6th in the pecking order.

Agree, its probably the end of Toney. I think Moore sticks because he plays ST.

remarkably he’s still only 27.

Last time with the Chiefs he was a 900+ yard receiver.

I don’t think he’s worth rostering for FF, but I do believe he might cap the upside of a few of those KC WRs and be a thorn in the side of Worthy, Rice, Brown shareholders.

Or he’ll be an irrelevant depth piece. One of the two. ;)

After watching him in NE last year, I'm not sure how much gas is left in the tank with his knee issues. He struggled to get open / separation. He had no speed to speak of, so his only use was running to an open spot and making a short distance catch with little to no YAC. His one big gainer was a 37-yard catch against the Steelers. The rest of his catches earned him a 7.9 ypr. Maybe Reid and Mahomes can scheme him open, but JJSS is not going to do much to make himself get open these days. Maybe they can send everyone else on deep routes and JuJu can wiggle free underneath on the opposite side of where Kelce is. But I don't think he will see 100+ targets and a 12.0 ypr average like he did the last time he suited up with the Chiefs.

7 catches for 130 yards. Second most targets after Kelce. He's running Rice's routes. He looked great last night and clearly has a rapport with Mahomes. Seems like he's been around forever but he's only 27 years old and he said he's 100% healthy coming into this season after having knee issues previous seasons. Glad I picked him up yesterday before the game so no need to blow my FAAB load on him. Looks like a potential league winner.

I don't have any faith he can continue it but I'm putting in a hefty bid for him. Not letting my league mates get him for free and have him suddenly figure it out.

This is effing sad as a rice owner. Didn’t even think to pick this guy up at all due to him having no juice and now probably don’t have enough faab left to bid. I still think it’s fools gold but yeah

Fellow Rice owner here who’s all out of FAAB, and I can relate. When I dropped Rice last night after the LCL news I checked for players who hadn’t gone in the Monday night game because my league doesn’t lock waivers until a player starts their game. I searched for the unowned KC receivers, looking for one to hold as a lottery ticket in case someone might step up in Rice’s absence, and passed over JuJu’s name without a second thought. “Eh, he’s washed up. I’d rather beat the league to Kendre Miller.” Oops!

No one could have seen this coming.

I picked him for a $0 bid after my bid for Wicks was too low. Figured “What the hell? If he doesn’t do anything on MNF, I cut him.”

Shocked that he looked that good. Man - all these players who don’t sign you just assume that’s for a reason and they are washed. Not the case

yeah that was way above expectations. guessing that could be the high point but maybe he'll be useful in fantasy after all.

It was Mahomes and not Juju. Fools gold for sure.
People were saying the same thing about Hunt…

True. I was a non believer there as well.

Jeff Mans on Sirius was beating the drum all last week to pick up Juju before he had a 100 yard game on Monday night. So someone did.

Well, with bye weeks here half the teams probably won't have the luxury to stash him. He should still be available if you wanna pull the trigger.

I could have used Jeff Mans’ insight before last night’s game! Thanks for recommending a new name I’m not familiar with to check out. When people get things like this right before everyone else, I’m inclined to pay attention to what they have to say in the future. This hobby is about getting any small edge you can to beat everyone to the WW.

Been holding the #1 priority. I'm 2-3 and now will likely be without Nico for a while. Think I have to do it. Wish their bye wasn't this week

1/2 ppr limits the upside a little bit, but the ww is thin in this league, so I'm pulling the trigger.

His fall from grace was shocking (given the success he had at such a young age) but this is an incredible situation. All aboard

He tends to be contrarian, but he also gets a lot right. He also recommended Whittington highly last week, so i picked him up too, and he had a nice game.

He was on record saying CMC was a terrible #1 pick overall

Why, is Mahomes leaving?

He went unclaimed on waivers so I picked him up for free (for Rice). Lot of people still don’t believe. Not sure I do either but even the chance of a poor man’s like for like Rashee role replacement is worth a roll of the dice.

Possible league winner if it comes to pass? I don’t really believe it either but it was worth a shot on waivers to find out

I don't believe.

The guy was legless in training camp for NE.

NO's D had a brain fart on D and he ran wide open for a ton of yards.

League winner? No. Get you 5-55-0 here and there? That's where I lean.

With two months of by weeks starting, you can always trade high with him. I dumped Doubs for him, he’s my insurance policy for Nabors. I think 5/60 and a occasional TD is realistic in PPR.

I spent 10 percent of my FAAB on him in one league. He definitely passed the eyeball test for me on Monday night.

Juju should have had a TD on the ball that went through his hands for the INT to the Saints big man. He gets another bye week to learn the Rice routes. Honestly this isn't a bad dart throw just like Kareem Hunt. The people ripping him probably ripped Hunt before his 27 rushes performance
