WR Kadarius Toney (1 Viewer)

I don’t see them giving up a 3rd and a 6th if they didn’t plan to really use him, when healthy. The question is have he and the Giants been fibbing his injury this whole time.
Yeah, I got the alert and thought about adding him for Pacheco then when I saw what KC gave up I ran to the ww

You've heard of the healing power of the TB12 method, but don't sleep on the ketchup steak method.

Seriously though, lots of Giants fans think he's been healthy for weeks, and Daboll just didn't want to use him, and the FO didn't want to risk his trade value.
This is my belief and with KC on bye they have a couple weeks to get him up to speed. I think he will be very good come FF playoff time.

Unless KC also traded for a doctor -- or maybe Mr. Miyagi -- I'm not sure this changes much about his prospects. What's been holding Toney back hasn't been his QB or his coach or anything like that. It's been his body parts made of crepe paper

Just read an article, I think was on ESPN. But apparently his hamstring has been hurt, it's not made up. He had a meeting with the team yesterday and he thought his hamstring was good to go and they apparently told him they wanted to be extra safe, sit him until week 11 after the bye when they had 3 games in 11 days. Then they traded him the next day instead.

If you own Toney, put him on the block.

Evey league has some guy who will overpay for Chiefs.

I just put him on the block in a “short bench” Keep 16 FFPC league, but not expecting the 2023 2nd that is probably the best case for what’s he’s worth at this point. Agreed?

ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports Kadarius Toney's Thursday trade to the Chiefs came after the wideout and the Giants remained at a loggerheads over his health following a Wednesday meeting.

Raanan does not report the meeting was the sole reason Toney was traded, but it clearly didn't help. Toney apparently believed his troublesome hamstrings were "good," while the Giants evidently wanted to hold him out through their Week 9 bye. Now Toney is on bye for Week 8 with the Chiefs. The truth is, the Giants' post-Dave Gettleman/Joe Judge regime never seemed too interested in Toney's services. Regardless of who was right about Toney's latest issue, the issue is that there was always an issue. Toney's upside will be higher with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, but his downside remains 0.0.

Anyone know the 'conditions' of the 3rd Round pick?
from what i've read I don't believe there are conditions on the pick. it will be the compensatory 3rd round pick that the Chiefs received for losing Ryan Poles to the Bears. that pick will come after any compensatory picks in the 3rd round that are awarded for losing free agents.

Can’t wait to see how this plays out. Was this young man trying to get out of NY and faking injuries? Does he have great talent that could really shine in KC?

I traded for him in dynasty when there were early trade rumblings. In my head this was the lottery scenario, unbelievable it happened. No sure thing obviously but certainly presents some intriguing upside. With Mecole/JuJu with one year left he could have a real nice role next year if he can stay healthy.

Seems like he was trying to convince the staff in NY that he was healthy... and it was them who were telling him not to play (at least this week).

I think he can have a real nice role this year. Those are a bunch of JAGs playing WR on the Chiefs currently.

Quite possibly, just depends how well he is able to get to speed on the playbook. The bye week certainly helps.

Absolutely. Worth a shot for sure.

I for sure like his chances past this year a great deal more. JuJu and Hardman out of contract and they can easily get out of MVS deal which to me was always designed as a year to year contract. Between that and getting to know the playbook and let Mahomes adapt to him his future looks considerably brighter then his present.

It's exciting either way including for this year and keep in mind this is someone it's reported the Chiefs were interested in back in the spring. This is not someone the Chiefs needed, this is someone the Chiefs have wanted and for awhile. Not that they are not forward thinking but when you are in the middle of a SB contending season you don't typically pay a 3 and a 6 for something that is not expected to help you reach that goal this season.

There are no conditions. It's a compensatory pick. IIRC, the Chiefs earned a 3rd round compensatory pick for losing Ryan Poles as a minority hire by the Bears as their GM. I believe it is slated to be the 5th best compensatory pick overall, which would slot as the 101st pick in the next draft.

That is the great part of the move. If he can get/is healthy he doesn't have much competition. There are a lot of bodies but not a lot of talent ahead of him.

I think for sure the kid is a headcase…but he has AJ Brown kind of talent and now he has the 2nd best qb in the league…he will still likely not work out but it’s certainly worth the risk in the event it does….

;)....feels like a yo yo CYA type of post....that down the road you can say I told you so no matter how it turns out....

lol....just having fun...

with the bye week I think he may be healthy and Reid inserts him quicker than most think....

My take is that Daboll had seen enough. He lost confidence in Toney because of Toney’s injuries. Seeing how Daboll has got the team to perform above expectations I side with Daboll. I think Tobey will ultimately prove to be a very untrustworthy fantasy asset.

AJ Brown? Weird comp. Why him?
A wr that you just need to get the ball in his hands and he’ll do the rest. Brown is more of a tank but Toney has those ankle breaking moves in the open field.

I am just being realistic having owned him on and off for 2 years now.

Yeah, covers the range of emotions, outcomes, hopes and dreams for those of us who’ve rostered him for 2 years. I spent a 2.10 on him last year, so no biggie if he doesn’t work out, and in FFPC (where you can only keep 14 skill players) he’s an easy cut if he doesn’t make anything with this great opportunity in KC.

I own him on a few dynasty teams, all FFPC, and one in particular is very deep at both WR and in particular so keeping him on that team in particular is a challenge.

But I won't cut him if he does not put up any type of stats this year nor would I give him up for a second. His potential is just to great and next season after a full off-season and possible to likely exits of JuJu, Hardman and MVS.

Caveat I'll throw out is I'm talking about a lack of production this year is not a reason I'd move on. If the injuries, lack of availability continue or I get any indications the Chiefs are not fond of how he's acting in the building all bets are off. I just won't really care if he's not overly productive this season because I don't worry about the talent.

One thing I'd add on fact you spent 2.10 on him. That same league I referenced were I was very deep at WR is a league I took ASB at 2.10 last year. Week before he broke out, so waivers during week 12, I got to thinking he was a low upside type who I concluded I was not going to keep and did not see him helping me much the last few weeks of the year so I made a waiver claim where he was my intended cut. I got lucky and someone outbid me so I kept him. Just trying to preach the value of a little patience.

great post, but you know in FFPC a format patience is one thing and actual available keeper slots is another. There’s only so many upside dart throws you can keep in FFPC (unless you’re in total rebuild). So Toney is a quintessential end-of-bench keeper in that format. In the league I’m referring to, i am actually in rebuild, so unless Toney stays injured or acts up (as you said) then he’s a likely cut candidate, but if he shows any signs of life in KC, I’ll do what I can to make him my final keeper.

side note: funny if your perception of me is tainted by the FFPC league we’re in together, where I’m in Ultra Win Now mode and only have so much room for young players. In my other dynasty leagues, I definitely make more room for a couple more upside dart throws than I do in the Shark Pool FFPC league.

Only in the sense you put a really good team together, make a lot of really good moves and have my utmost respect as someone who seems to know what they are doing and someone I look forward to competing with for years to come.

FWIW the team of mine I referenced a few times where I almost cut ASB and want to hang onto Toney did win the league last year and is very much in win now mode. I recall us discussing during the off-season how you take more of a 2-3 year type of approach to your dynasty teams and I'm trying to take a longer view, I'm trying to put a Dynasty on people-lol, so that might be an area of how handle our teams that would lead us to how we value a player like Toney a little differently.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said, "it will be a gradual process" when asked about working Kadarius Toney into the offense.

Reid also added that Toney "is healthy now" after the second-year receiver reportedly dealt with a hamstring injury for several weeks prior to his departure from New York. Toney's gradual implementation into the Chiefs' offense isn't surprising, as he now looks to familiarize himself with a new scheme, quarterback and playbook. There's no reason to rush Toney into an offense that's currently ranked first in points per game (31.9) and second in passing yards per game (296.0). However, Toney proved to be one of the more explosive receivers in the league during his rookie year and would add another element to the Chiefs' potent offense.

Who cares?
Likely people holding Toney expecting great things. 🤷‍♂️

It's a shame Andy Reid didn't have you on speed-dial.
The snark is strong with this one.

Don't really see Toney doing a whole lot to be honest. Maybe in a month be more integrated as a 3rd/4th wr

Don't se him doing a whole lot for fantasy to be honest. He is in a great situation, he is not going to step right in and be #1/2 wr

Think many people are going to be disappointed in what they get out of him in KC the rest of this season.

I’m looking at week 14. If he’s at 80% of snaps or better by then, he’s a potential league winner. Otherwise, again… who cares? His cost was nothing. No WR on the wire is getting in to my line-up anyway.

I have him on a few dynasty rosters and love his talent, but even if he’s “healthy” and getting significant snaps (80% seems like the ceiling) there’s still Kelce, JJSS and other targets that he’s competing with. Sure, there’s a potential league winner here but it’s not a clear path and we can’t just totally dismiss his track record.
Obviously I’m not saying don’t roll the dice at his cheap cost, but I’m more hoping than expecting big things. Ideally he replaces Hill as the alpha and the big play guy, but let’s see him play a full game first.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said he will "try to work him [Kadarius Toney] in" during the team's Week 9 game against the Titans.

Toney is practicing on Wednesday after missing weeks of practice prior to his trade. It sounds like he will be active for Week 9 but may be limited to a rotational role. Starting him in fantasy leagues would be a considerable risk. His upside in Kansas City is tantalizing, but Toney drafters would be smart to wait another week before getting him in their lineups.
