Just read an article, I think was on ESPN. But apparently his hamstring has been hurt, it's not made up. He had a meeting with the team yesterday and he thought his hamstring was good to go and they apparently told him they wanted to be extra safe, sit him until week 11 after the bye when they had 3 games in 11 days. Then they traded him the next day instead.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports Kadarius Toney's Thursday trade to the Chiefs came after the wideout and the Giants remained at a loggerheads over his health following a Wednesday meeting.​

Raanan does not report the meeting was the sole reason Toney was traded, but it clearly didn't help. Toney apparently believed his troublesome hamstrings were "good," while the Giants evidently wanted to hold him out through their Week 9 bye. Now Toney is on bye for Week 8 with the Chiefs. The truth is, the Giants' post-Dave Gettleman/Joe Judge regime never seemed too interested in Toney's services. Regardless of who was right about Toney's latest issue, the issue is that there was always an issue. Toney's upside will be higher with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, but his downside remains 0.0.

from what i've read I don't believe there are conditions on the pick. it will be the compensatory 3rd round pick that the Chiefs received for losing Ryan Poles to the Bears. that pick will come after any compensatory picks in the 3rd round that are awarded for losing free agents.

I for sure like his chances past this year a great deal more. JuJu and Hardman out of contract and they can easily get out of MVS deal which to me was always designed as a year to year contract. Between that and getting to know the playbook and let Mahomes adapt to him his future looks considerably brighter then his present.

It's exciting either way including for this year and keep in mind this is someone it's reported the Chiefs were interested in back in the spring. This is not someone the Chiefs needed, this is someone the Chiefs have wanted and for awhile. Not that they are not forward thinking but when you are in the middle of a SB contending season you don't typically pay a 3 and a 6 for something that is not expected to help you reach that goal this season.

There are no conditions. It's a compensatory pick. IIRC, the Chiefs earned a 3rd round compensatory pick for losing Ryan Poles as a minority hire by the Bears as their GM. I believe it is slated to be the 5th best compensatory pick overall, which would slot as the 101st pick in the next draft.

That is the great part of the move. If he can get/is healthy he doesn't have much competition. There are a lot of bodies but not a lot of talent ahead of him.

A wr that you just need to get the ball in his hands and he’ll do the rest. Brown is more of a tank but Toney has those ankle breaking moves in the open field.

Yeah, covers the range of emotions, outcomes, hopes and dreams for those of us who’ve rostered him for 2 years. I spent a 2.10 on him last year, so no biggie if he doesn’t work out, and in FFPC (where you can only keep 14 skill players) he’s an easy cut if he doesn’t make anything with this great opportunity in KC.

But I won't cut him if he does not put up any type of stats this year nor would I give him up for a second. His potential is just to great and next season after a full off-season and possible to likely exits of JuJu, Hardman and MVS.

great post, but you know in FFPC a format patience is one thing and actual available keeper slots is another. There’s only so many upside dart throws you can keep in FFPC (unless you’re in total rebuild). So Toney is a quintessential end-of-bench keeper in that format. In the league I’m referring to, i am actually in rebuild, so unless Toney stays injured or acts up (as you said) then he’s a likely cut candidate, but if he shows any signs of life in KC, I’ll do what I can to make him my final keeper.

side note: funny if your perception of me is tainted by the FFPC league we’re in together, where I’m in Ultra Win Now mode and only have so much room for young players. In my other dynasty leagues, I definitely make more room for a couple more upside dart throws than I do in the Shark Pool FFPC league.

Only in the sense you put a really good team together, make a lot of really good moves and have my utmost respect as someone who seems to know what they are doing and someone I look forward to competing with for years to come.

FWIW the team of mine I referenced a few times where I almost cut ASB and want to hang onto Toney did win the league last year and is very much in win now mode. I recall us discussing during the off-season how you take more of a 2-3 year type of approach to your dynasty teams and I'm trying to take a longer view, I'm trying to put a Dynasty on people-lol, so that might be an area of how handle our teams that would lead us to how we value a player like Toney a little differently.

Reid also added that Toney "is healthy now" after the second-year receiver reportedly dealt with a hamstring injury for several weeks prior to his departure from New York. Toney's gradual implementation into the Chiefs' offense isn't surprising, as he now looks to familiarize himself with a new scheme, quarterback and playbook. There's no reason to rush Toney into an offense that's currently ranked first in points per game (31.9) and second in passing yards per game (296.0). However, Toney proved to be one of the more explosive receivers in the league during his rookie year and would add another element to the Chiefs' potent offense.

I have him on a few dynasty rosters and love his talent, but even if he’s “healthy” and getting significant snaps (80% seems like the ceiling) there’s still Kelce, JJSS and other targets that he’s competing with. Sure, there’s a potential league winner here but it’s not a clear path and we can’t just totally dismiss his track record.
Obviously I’m not saying don’t roll the dice at his cheap cost, but I’m more hoping than expecting big things. Ideally he replaces Hill as the alpha and the big play guy, but let’s see him play a full game first.

Mahomes said Brett Veach came to him during offseason with possibility of acquiring Toney. Didn't happen then but Veach had Toney in his sights for awhile

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said he will "try to work him [Kadarius Toney] in" during the team's Week 9 game against the Titans.​

Toney is practicing on Wednesday after missing weeks of practice prior to his trade. It sounds like he will be active for Week 9 but may be limited to a rotational role. Starting him in fantasy leagues would be a considerable risk. His upside in Kansas City is tantalizing, but Toney drafters would be smart to wait another week before getting him in their lineups.
