WR Keenan Allen, CHI (2 Viewers)

Keenan is starting to act like a fool … he’s been sitting at home playing video games and drinking heavily…. To top it off he hates the coach …. Not a recipe for success

Is it just me or is Keenan the slowest healer ever?

Have had him on multiple teams over the years and obviously he is regularly nicked up, but it always seems like when they say he is out for 3 weeks, he is out for 5. 4 week IR turns into 7 games missed.

Maybe I'm just not remembering correctly, but the extended outs is just as frustrating as the regular injuries. This doesn't even take into account the number of times he comes back for 2 quarters and reaggrevates whatever ailment he had previously.

It's just you, apparently:
  • From 2017-2021, Allen played in 80 of the 82 Chargers games.
  • In 2016, he tore his ACL in game 1 and missed the rest of the season.
  • In 2015, he lacerated his kidney on a TD catch in game 8 and missed the rest of the season.
No "slow healing" situations in any of the 7 seasons before this one.

Keenan Allen (hamstring) did not practice Thursday.

He didn't practice Wednesday, didn't play on Sunday, and Brandon Staley called him "day-to-day." It feels more like he's week-to-week from the practice reports. Allen drafters have been used to having to come up with backup plans this year, so it shouldn't come as a surprise when we say they'll need one again for Week 10.

Keenan Allen (hamstring) will not play in Week 10 against the 49ers.

Replacing Michael Thomas as the most-blurbed injured wideout in the league after Thomas went on IR, Allen did not look particularly close to playing this week and was ruled out as predicted earlier. We're not sure what the path back looks like for Allen, or if he'll even be fantasy playoff viable at this point. Things have been that bleak. DeAndre Carter and Josh Palmer will be Justin Herbert's main receivers this week against San Francisco.

(fantasypros) Keenan Allen was limited at practice on Wednesday.
Analysis: Allen has played in just two games overall this season. The Chargers have been very cautious with his hamstring injury as expected, so he is not a lock to return this weekend but there is a chance. When he does return, he will be eased back.

When asked he is playing this weekend, Allen responded, “I hope.” Meanwhile, Williams said, “Maybe,” with a big smile and laugh.

Allen isn’t playing.
Williams probably playing.

Keenan Allen (hamstring) practiced Thursday.

It will likely be another drill-heavy "limited" session for Allen, but we're not here to complain after Allen spent weeks not practicing after the bye. Allen's back-to-back limited sessions suggests he's in line for a questionable tag on Friday. He will remain extremely hard to trust without further positive news from the coaching staff or his own mouth, but in a rough week for wideouts, Allen has WR3 appeal in a potential return against the Chiefs.

Keenan Allen (hamstring) practiced on Friday.

Allen's practice status won't be known until LA's injury report drops later in the day, but he has practiced in some capacity every day this week. That is a good sign he will return to the lineup on Sunday. Allen has played 23 snaps since going down with the hamstring issue in Week 1. He may have his reps limited in his return, but Allen should be good for WR2 numbers in a likely shootout with the Chiefs.

Allen owners, if active, how confident?

Unfortunately it's a Sunday night game.

I fortunately can play a wait and see as I have Elijah Mitchell that I can plug in a Flex if Allen does not go...and not even sure I'd play him if he is active....concerns are re-aggravation, snap count or decoy....almost prefer he not be active so there is no decision making. ha ha.. Waited all year so why not one more week right?

This week against KC will be a high scoring game. If Allen plays he will have a high ceiling and a low floor. Are you feeling lucky?

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Keenan Allen (hamstring, questionable) "plans to play" against the Chiefs.

Despite Allen's questionable tag, he was a full participant in Friday's practice. Only a setback could hold him out at this point. Although the risk of an in-game setback is high, fantasy managers can get Allen in there as their WR2/3 for Week 11.

KEENAN ALLEN NEARLY TOPS CENTURY MARK IN WEEK 11 RETURN
PUBLISHED MON NOV 21 8:11:23 A.M. MT 2022
(fantasypros) Keenan Allen hauled in 5-of-8 targets for 94 yards in a tight 30-27 Chargers' loss to the Chiefs in Week 11.
Analysis: Allen also lost an unfortunately timed fumble in the affair, but redeemed himself with a stellar long grab late in the fourth quarter. More importantly, Allen looked healthy while in the game and did not appear to suffer any setbacks. Allen should operate as the WR1 going forward, especially if Mike Williams is forced to miss additional time with his ankle injury.

Keenan Allen (hamstring) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.

Last Friday, Allen was a full participant for the first time since Week 1. He played through the hamstring issue, totaling 94 yards on five catches. Allen played on roughly two-thirds of the Chargers' offensive snaps. Another full session should bode well for his ability to push for a larger role. Allen is a safe bet for WR2 numbers in Week 12 versus the Cardinals.

Keenan Allen (hamstring) was removed from the Week 12 injury report and will play against the Cardinals.

Allen was a full participant in all three practices this week. He returned from his hamstring issue in Week 11 and secured five passes for 94 yards. All signs point to the veteran receiver being fully past his frustrating hamstring injury. With Mike Williams out this week, Allen should soak up plenty of targets as a strong WR2 option for fantasy purposes.

The Athletic's Daniel Popper lists Keenan Allen as one of the "most likely" cuts for the Chargers this offseason.

Allen would save $14.8 million in cap space if released, which is huge for a team that currently looks to be $23.43 million over the cap. It's still a bit of a surprise even after Allen missed a large portion of this season with hamstring issues, as his play hasn't slowed down much. But the Chargers don't appear to have a slew of options after their offseason spending spree in 2022, and may need to attack a few of the bigger figures on their roster. It's also plausible that Allen could be asked to take a pay cut. Off a 66/752/4 season in just 10 games, a few of which he was clearly still playing hurt in, Allen would be a popular free agent if he makes it to the market.

Posted this about a week ago: Chargers 2023 Roster Thoughts: WR Keenan Allen

You can see in the comments that someone tweeted some of it and Allen retweeted it. I'm not really a Twitter user, and I don't post stuff to seek retweets, but I still thought that was pretty cool.

Perhaps more on point for this thread, I advocated for the Chargers to keep Allen by giving him a contract extension.

I agree with you, I feel like LA would be fools to get rid of Allen. He's their go-to guy in most big situations, and we've seen no reason to think Mike Williams can be a #1 WR. I also think Allen likely fills the Lamb role in Kellen Moore's offense.

Allen would have instantly been the best WR on the market. Cutting him never made any sense at all, he's FAR too good to just cut, he's easily worth at least a 2nd round pick. That said, Chargers offense would be taking ahuge step back if he left, so no surprise they wouldn't want to.

Curious what the Cincy and LAC GMs will be saying about their WR after they give $300-600MM to their QBs
No reason either Burrow or Herbert needs a new contract this year.

It probably won't ever be an issue with Allen. If Herbert signs and extension this off-season it won't kick in until 2024. That is the last year of Allens deal and if the declines next season maybe they move on but typically that first year of the extension the cap hit is not heavy.

Higgins is a little more problematic since he'll be an UFA next year but there are enough mechanisms in place they can easily lock him up another year, or tag and trade him next offseason. There was never a reason IMO for them to consider parting with him this season. At some point, when their extensions kick in, I think it's going to be to much for the Bengals to pay Burrow, Chase and Higgins. I don't think you find an example now of that in the league, seems teams are having a hard enough time paying one QB max type money and one WR max type money. But again they can put that off several more years, they can lock up Chase without extending him for 3 more whole seasons.

What I expect is that the Chargers and Bengals will first exercise the 5th year option for 2024 for Herbert and Burrow, then their contract extensions really begin in 2025. This is the path the Chiefs used with Mahomes and the Bills with Allen, and it makes perfect sense to do the same with Herbert and Burrow. So the big cap hit jumps for them should be 2025.

ETA: Agree those extensions for Herbert and Burrow don't create a problem with Allen or Higgins.

He's up there in age but has been steady over the years when on the field. Now we have Kellen Moore and Allen is looking to be his Lamb.

Nabbed him in my biggest $$$ 12 teamer last night.
I started RB-RB and I felt the only chance I had left at an elite WE was Allen.

I've traditionally pivoted elsewhere due to age, injury concerns, or some combo of both.

But when he's healthy, he has flat delivered the goods.

Keenan Allen caught 6-of-9 targets for 76 yards in the Chargers’ Week 1 loss against the Dolphins.

Allen easily led the Chargers in targets. His highlight was a first half 36-yard grab down the sideline on what appeared to be broken coverage. Allen looked to play on the boundary more than he did in 2022, reflecting a usage change offensive coordinator Kellen Moore had discussed during training camp. As the top wideout in what should be one of the league’s most pass heavy attacks, Allen should be a top-15 fantasy option every week. He gets a poor Titans secondary in Week 2.

Apparently he almost had a td. Initially was ruled a td. I haven't seen the highlight so I do not know how it looked. He could have had a very solid day if he scored. Either way, typical Keenan Allen stats. Steady Eddy.
