WR Malik Nabers, NYG (2 Viewers)

Not at all surprising to me he is getting major buzz already. He has the kind of traits that will totally dominate practice. I still have him with a lower ceiling than Marvin or Rome once the bullets start flying. We shall see.

So is this gonna be a bet on talent situation with a hypothetically inferior QB in jones or roll the dice on Odunze and his hypothetical blue chip rookie QB on rookie league draft day?

Nabers is rising up the startup rankings fast. What's the consensus on him vs guys like Puka or London?
I think Puka is a tier or two higher. He was just too good last year. London and Nabers are probably close but I’d give a slight edge to Nabers.

My 1.01 in dyno drafts, going to be an absolute stud.

on the NYG?

I like Caleb Williams, but think Chicago will ruin him. I don't think NYG will help nabers succeed
They said the same thing about AJ Brown in Tennessee, Lamb being drafted as the WR2 in Dallas, etc. The scenery changes quickly in the NFL. Draft talented players. The cream rises to the top!

The Fantasy index hates just HATES Nabers they have him in PPR as their WR 51 behind studs like Darnell Mooney, Jahan Dotson and Shakir.

I agree that many are harping a bit too much on the Jones/Luck QB factor. If Nabors is that good he’ll be fed and will produce. This is a team that seems like it may need to throw a lot.
Exactly.

They're going to play from behind a ton. Their over/under for wins in Vegas is at 6.5. They'll absolutely throw it a lot. Daniel Jones is coming back from the ACL injury. I don't think he'll be quite as mobile his 1st year back. Nabers is by far the best pass catcher on the roster. I'm pretty sure he'll be the most talented pass catcher Jones has EVER had. I could see the touchdowns being limited. But I could also see a situation where they have to throw it so much, he has 90-100 catches and 1200 yards.

I think he's got a pretty straightforward path to WR2 status with WR1 upside. He's super talented, and he should get a ton of opportunities. And he's so explosive, he's not a guy that necessarily needs a ton of volume. But I think he gets it.

From a pure fantasy angle I absolutely loved to see his conversation with Daboll. Specifically to see Nabers tell Daboll he does not take it well if he's not getting the ball early in games and Daboll understanding perfectly why he felt that way. It's not like he was not going to be the central part of the offense but you still got to love seeing them go into this with their eyes wide open and who they just took at 6.

If I was running an actual team and talents were equal I'd prefer to acquire players more like Rome and Marvin. Two players who strike me me more as guys who are there to do whatever job they asked, not going to be demonstrative if the ball is not coming to them. But from a fantasy angle I'd rather have a player with the temperment of Nabers, I want that guy letting everyone know he wants the ball and won't be happy about it if it's not happening.

The Giants need someone with some swagger and Malik brings that in spades. Assuming Dabol doesn't let it get out of hand, Malik will be a good addition for the team in ways other than his statline.

This is a Nabers thread but I like Nabers and Rome over MHJ.
MHSr questioned MHJ being that dude. He questioned his son's ability to tell the QB, I want the ball. MHSr said he told Peyton he wanted the ball but the media narrative never put this out. It was always TO was a loud mouth and MHSr was a nice guy. You don't get to be a top WR by being nice.

And Barry Sanders’ dad always dogged his son. I don’t put much into that.

I posted on this very message board with people who said you should draft MH Sr. over Moss and TO because he was a "nice guy." Very funny that we're through the looking glass. That was before the cell phone celebration and murder, though.

Judging WR on how nice they are seems not so smart.

Did they do enough to improve thier offensive line though? When I saw the Giants on TV last year the line was horrible. Granted, I think Jones is a jag, but he was getting killed on most pass plays and then it appeared that he was dumping off way too much and not passing downfield enough.

I preface this by saying, yes, I know it’s very early, but …

Malik Nabers has that special quality the Giants have not had since Odell Beckham Jr.: he demoralizes defenses.

Even then, I think Nabers might be better at the top of his routes than OBJ was as a rookie.

I think back to the story Phil Simms told about Mark Bavaro at #Giants100 Night with Legends and how Bill Parcells told Simms when Bavaro was covered, he was open. Might be the case with Nabers, too.

It's obviously too early to say with no pads on and against one's own team defense, but Nabers does seem to have that *it* factor. There's certainly reason to have a feeling that when all is said and done, he rather than MHJ will be the WR from this class to have. Maybe not this year with the offensive ecosystem but perhaps in 2025 when the Giants presumably upgrade their QB situation.

I hate Daniel Jones, but seeing how much Daboll has praised Nabers and wanted him in his offense during Hard Knocks, I think he might be force fed targets right from the jump. I’m thinking 120 targets is his floor this year tbh. I wasn’t the highest on Nabers due to the poor QB situation for the Giants, but it’s starting to look like the targets will definitely be there.

Agreed - Nabers doesn't need all-world QB play to produce at a high level, just halfway credible to get the ball to him. Jones is clearly not a very good QB, but I think he's at least capable of that.

Hey, if Justin Fields and Tyson Bagent can get DJ Moore to WR6, Daniel Jones should be good enough, right? But history isn't on his side - since Jones came to town 5 years ago, no Giants WR has finished as a WR1, or WR2, or even WR3.

The Giants pass catchers haven't exactly been a who's who of talent. Maybe we're getting ahead of ourselves in terms of what Nabers can do, but the talent sure seems to be there.

I still see him having to slow down and/or reach back on deep route highlights on Twitter
I have a feeling we are going to see some visible frustration from Nabers this year.
If I were Daboli I'd be screaming mad. Too many practices and too many throws to have their timing be that off at this point.

On the radio they said Nabers does a 3/4 speed route then turns the jets on and...that is not the issue. Plenty of WRs know that move/tactic since Peewee football.

The other thing is the simple lob and let him go get it. If ya can't get the timing down, do that then and make it his problem. He seems more than capable.

It's just really ridiculous at this point
