WR Mike Evans, TB (1 Viewer)

Just finally became and owner. Seems to me he's kind of suffering the way Demarco Murray did. Not terrible fantasy output, but not great either. I think those two low games are just blips. He's going to rebound big time. He's got the Redskins this week, and doesn't play another good defense until the Rams in the fantasy playoffs. Plus, as was mentioned, he's got to be healthier.

Last year he started out slow, same as this year.

Bucs OC says they have to get him started so it seems like they will look to increase his targets.

Bucs Coaches Confident Evans Will Emerge in 2015

With 13 receptions for 174 yards and zero touchdowns, Mike Evans certainly hasn’t had the start to the season many expected following a sensational rookie year. But it’s too early to start crying sophomore slump, as the new offense is still developing an identity and finding ways to get the ball into playmakers’ hands.

“We just need to get Mike started,” offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter said Wednesday. “He’s fine, we just need to get him started. We threw him a bunch of balls in Houston (17 targets) and we were inconsistent throwing and catching in that game. He missed some practice time and the first game (with an injured hamstring). We just have to get him started.”

Ironically, the game in Houston where Evans had the most targets and receptions – 17 and 7, respectively – was during the Bucs least productive offensive outing over the last three weeks (318 yards). Since then, Tampa Bay has rushed for over 100 yards in back-to-back games, while favoring different matchups in the limited passing game.

One reason for Evans slow start could simply be because the Bucs are finding other ways to have success.

“When you have multiple guys who need touches, it doesn’t always work out perfect,” Koetter said. “We have to do what we have to do to win games. We have two good guys on the outside. Austin (Seferian-Jenkins) is down, other guys have to step up inside. And we ran the ball well against Jacksonville.”

That said, the former Aggies star is one of the team’s greatest threats. While Koetter and head coach Lovie Smith are pleased with the direction the offense is heading, they know it’s time for their 1,000-yard receiver to emerge and resemble his production from 2014.

“We need Mike to come,” Smith said. “For our football team, we like what we’re seeing as far as the direction we’re going offensively. But to be able to add Mike Evans best ball to that – that’s exciting.”

For what it’s worth, Evans had just 17 receptions for 203 yards and one touchdown at this point of the season last year, before going on to catch 68 passes for 1,051. Maybe it just takes a few weeks to built a rapport with his quarterback and find rhythm in a new offense.

Coming off a bye in Week 6, Smith is confident that a healthy and refreshed Evans will come back stronger.

“Sometimes it takes you a while, for whatever reason. Injuries can stop that progress a little bit,” Smith said. “But Mike is healthy now, getting away from ball (with the bye week) and now getting a chance to start new with everyone – he’s a great player and we need him to play that way each week.”

Rotoworld:

Mike Evans corralled eight-of-12 targets for 164 yards and a touchdown in the Buccaneers' Week 7 loss to the Redskins.

This was the Mike Evans breakout game we’ve all been waiting for. Evans was a force of nature on Sunday. He embarrassed every defender the Redskins put on him, including Will Blackmon on a gorgeous 40-yard touchdown strike early in the first half. Evans had another touchdown called back on offensive pass interference. He was simply overpowering in the second half with five grabs for 90 yards. Many of his catches were of the highlight reel variety. It’s worth noting that Vincent Jackson was limited to two targets Sunday because of a knee injury. Evans will be on the WR1/2 border next week against Atlanta.

Blew up on my bench. Given his play this year, I can't be too upset about that. But is this a return to form or an anomaly for this season? I don't watch enough Tampa games to know.

VJax left with a knee. We will have to see severity there.

Evans had a 2nd TD called back for offensive PI. They prolly should have targeted him once down at the goalline at the end of the game when they ran 3 times and settled for a FG.

Yes, they should have. Cost them the game. The offensive PI was garbage too.

Looked pretty blatant from where I was sitting on the 40-yard line, but I didn't get the benefit of multiple replay angles.

I might be biased, possibly, but Evans basically had the defender boxed out and then he fell down. They didn't show any replays of anything happening well before the ball got there. Two refs threw flags so maybe it was? Evans being so much bigger physically made it look worse than it was.

Both guys had hands on each other.. Evans is just bigger and stronger. He should have had 15-250-3 yesterday the way he was dominating

Mike Evans doesn't give one #### what Vincent Jacksons healthy is. It make no difference if Jackson plays or not. Evans is the man in Tampa.

that's true, but from a coverage standpoint, it's to Evans' advantage to have a healthy Jackson on the other side.

Yes and no. He's not really coverable. He might get more redzone looks if Vjax is out.

that's a good point.

Jameis looks good. Meanwhile take a look at McCown.

Perennial WR1 with several years until he enters what for most would be considered the age of physical and mental maturation. I own him and Beckham in dynasty and not sure who I like better.

Thank god he is back. Where you been Mike?

Let's rock for the stretch run and playoffs baby.
Combination of a bye week letting his hamstring get healthy and an atrocious Washington secondary.

He should be Jameis' go to guy from here on out.

He was a top-5 dynasty WR this preseason and it was dumb for anyone to cool on him due to injury and a slow start. Traded Dez + meh vets for Evans + late 2016 1st for a rebuild and feel like I committed grand larceny.

Traded Davante Adams for Evans last week to an owner who was impatient. Feel like I committed grand larceny as well.

Same here, IhearGuinness. I am actually from Tampa and a huge fan of the Bucs, especially Mike Evans who I drafted last year and of course this year (a steal in the 8th round). But I had him on the bench this week for Landry. I was hoping to see more chemistry from Winston to Evans and by golly it happened! I hope there is more to come!

If Jameis' ball placement continues to be as flawless as it was this past week in Washington the coverage doesn't matter.

Debating benching Evans this week. He certainly seems to be starting to click with Winston, but I worry that V.Jax's absence will hurt more than help him. Truffant is solid enough to begin with, and if they throw another defender at him, it could be a long day.

What do you estimate happened once VJax went down mid-game last week?

Mike Evans is a plug and play. Just like AJ Freen, Demarcus Thomas, etc. Do not even look at who he's playing.

He's just a notch below Otiel Beckham & Dez Bronson imo, a must start

Full disclosure, I also have Jon Browne, Steven Digs, and Emanuel Saunders and can only choose two. That's affecting my decision as well.

There should be no decision whatsoever. Perhaps a flip of the coin if you own Julio.

Mike Evans is on full on beast mode right now.

Rotoworld:

Mike Evans said he's not expecting double coverage against the Falcons.

The Falcons are a Cover-3 scheme and play their system regardless of opponent. Evans will mostly line up against Desmond Trufant and should still see heavy shade to his side. With Vincent Jackson (knee) and Austin Seferian-Jenkins (shoulder) doubtful, Evans is a lock for 10-plus targets this week.
