WR Mike Williams, LAC (1 Viewer)

Who is Herbert going to throw to and who are the Chargers going to roll out at RB? Is Blake Corum a realistic target for Jim Harbaugh’s new team? Any draft rumors out there?

He's my dynasty QB in a very QB-centric 1QB league I'm in. Between Harbaugh and Roman and the Chargers absolutely gutting their receiver corps, I'm not only worried about the situation as I could possibly be or ever have been regarding Herbert, but his value as an asset has plummeted.

This has not been a good offseason for anybody that rosters him as their main QB. I'd post the kicking rock emoji, but I just want to curse.

**** this. It sucks.

eta* Haven't heard anything about replacements. Corum is a realistic but now ill-advised target for Harbaugh. I have heard no draft rumors and am attuned to Twitter/X and a few other places. They really sound like they have no plan to address their WR room. Perhaps they're punting the year because they're in cap purgatory.
I don’t buy it. Harbaugh plays to win and is quite good at it. We don’t know his plan but rest assured, he has one. Their cap situation must be much improved with the departures of Allen, Ekeler and Williams.

Fair enough. That "punting on the season" was simply one of the options they have if one looks at it from the outside, and was more my mind wandering and contemplating than concluding anything. I'm not really hanging my hat or digging my heels in regarding their intentions. The here and now is really where it's at, and it's not pretty for Herbert as it stands.

I’m with you on the hit for Herbert’s value but I think we all knew Harbaugh’s offense was going to be more conservative than past seasons. But I think that anyone who believes Harbaugh will implement the Michigan offense in the NFL Is being lazy in their offense. The Michigan defense that Minter is implementing does. Translate because it is essentially the Raven’s defense. Go back and look at how Harbaugh coached SF.

Harbaugh compiled a 44-19-1 record in the regular season and went 5-3 in the playoffs.

2011 451 passes 498 rushes
2012 435 passes 492 rushes
2013 417 passes 505 rushes
2014 487 passes 470 rushes

He was essentially a 50/50 guy. But the NFL has changed but last year Baltimore was essentially a 50/50 run/pass team.

But who are the players Harbaugh will lean on? That is the analysis I want to see.

So, they have youngsters Quentin Johnson and Josh Palmer, along with the 5th and 37th picks. If they are optimistic about Johnson and/or Palmer, they can grab one of the top 3 WRs in the draft and perhaps be set at WR for a while. If they use the 5 pick elsewhere, they will probably get one of the top 8 or so rookie WRs with the 37 pick. And they can add talented dart throws from the deep WR class further down the draft. Or they could drop down several spots from the 5 and pick up another 1st round draft pick.

Could they be without a top WR all year? Sure, but they could as easily have a top 7 or 8 WR room by the end of the 2025 draft. Kid WRs burst out every year from later in the draft and NFL rosters change in a hurry. IMO, Herbert makes a lot of good futures possible. Harbaugh's conservative nature is my only big worry about the Bolt's future.

Also it is important to remember who were the players Harbaugh was working with? His QB was Colin Kaepernick who was an, at best, mediocre, passer but a dynamic runner. In 2013 and 2014 Kaepernick, who started all 32 games, rushed 92 and 104 times, respectively.

Herbert won’t run that much. The real questions are what areas of the team need the most immediate work and how do the Chargers address them. Getting rid of older, higher cost players will help with the CAP. But now what holes are going to be addressed first. Is the OL solid? I believe Harbaugh has a plan. I just don’t know what it is.

Who is going to tote the rock. Harbaugh, and the NFL writ large, seem to prefer a 2-back committee approach.

Mike Williams says it has been a “grind” working his way back, but is excited about being able to do individual drills and keep progressing.

When asked if it’s realistic he’ll be ready to play in Week 1: “I guess we’ll have to see.” #Jets

Rich Cimini
WR Mike Williams told reporters he expects to join team drills next week, the last hurdle before he's cleared for Wk 1.

"I think I'm ready to do some team stuff, just getting in a rhythm, doing things with the team, just lining up and going through some plays." #Jets

#2 WR with the Jet O will be valuable - if MWill stays healthy could be a steal as he's very cheap. No other Jets WR besides obviously Wilson has shown much.

Connor Hughes
#Jets WR Mike Williams will be on a pitch count this weekend and for beginning portion of season. He might feel like he can go 60, but team will be smart. They want him for stretch run, not just first couple weeks.

Going to cut bait after this game. His upside would be Allen Lazard at this point.

Wilson, Conklin, Lazard, Hall, and now it appears Allen will be demanding the football. Was excited for his prospects of playing with Rodgers, but feel like he's just clogging up my roster at this point. They don't need him to win. Would bump up immediately if there was an injury, but the 3rd string WR on the Jets just doesn't do it for me.

Im getting bullish on Williams. His status are:

Me being a target guy, Im starting to speculate him coming back to full(er) speed from injury and Rodgers feeling more confident in the system that we will continue to see his targets increase. I have to believe fundamentally he is the best WR on the team. What he needs are his and Rodgers physicals to catch-up. I believe his % of plays on the field is also increasing, though I dont have active metrics on that.

I would encourage all to WW him

Dropped him. Even at 100% health he is he is on a run first team basically fighting for the same targets as Lazard. Imo
Sig bet?
In memory of the recent gambling is damaging families thread ill bet you one million dollars Lazard ends year with more targets then Williams.

That didn't even occur to me. As a Williams owner I'd love a change

100% those were salary cap casualties.

Harbaugh is a big fan of building through the draft. Taking players and moulding them into his own image. players who are older have their own habits, and tend to be more set in their ways. This is not unusual. even in corporations who promote from within..... its all about training them in your own image so all you know is what your team is about. Team will be fine. it may just take a couple years to get to that point.

I don't understand the fascination with this guy he has looked totally washed up.
tough to really judge based on the dysfunction that are the Jets. Although I am not really sure what he really does for the Steelers. Is a nice fit with Russ though for the deep ball (but they already have Pickens for that).

His value can't go down for FF with this move.

Mike Williams had an ACL tear in 2023 which resulted in a lost season. It usually takes a player a full season to truly come back to full strength. He's had 2 1,000 yards receiving. His 40 time is just ok at 4.51. when fully healthy he's a great complemental WR2.

With the Jets he kept dropping down the pecking order as Aaron kept bringing back his Green Bay receivers

Their WR room is abysmal.

I don't understand the fascination with this guy he has looked totally washed up.

while that may be, I don't see Williams bring anything to the table that they don't already have. He and Pickens seem a little redundant.

I think it's ok, at least if grading on the beggars can't be choosers curve. Ideal skillets for Wilson and if Williams can get back to looking like his old self would in theory open up things for Pickens or give him favorable matchups and Calvin Austin gives them that something different.

Steeler's seemed to have turned over almost every rock. Probably would have got Kirk if he had not got hurt. Heard they were calling on Thielen as late as today, not sure if that was in addition to or instead of Williams. But that all goes back to the beggars can't be choosers. They could not trade for Diontae, Browns likely did not want to sent them Amair. Other then Hopkins, which I never heard anything about it regarding their interest, sounds like they were in on just about every WR they could possibly be on so maybe not the perfect guy but they needed help.

Williams is further removed from his injury every week. He seems like a good skill set match to Wilson. It doesn't matter if Pickens is better and has somewhat redundant skills. Williams has the potential to be better than Jefferson, Austin, and Miller. And, that, in theory, pushes those 3 and maybe even Pickens at times to more favorable matchups when on the field. Seems like a low risk high reward move with considerable potential upside, especially in the playoffs.

Was picked up in one league where I've struggled to add a WR3 so I traded for him. Hard to gauge but Pittsburgh was a top destination of his. Had something set up with them but nothing came of it. Now he's there! As you & others point out, he fits what they like. His injury history & whether a WR2 in an Arthur Smith offense can be relevant are the questions I guess. They need a guy & I think every effort is going to be made to get him up to speed & get him involved. Listening to him he seems equally determined to assume the role of a featured WR. Beyond needing a guy it would seem the organization added because they also believe they've got something going on.

All they have is Pickens. And Pickens + a not quite as good Pickens is better than just Pickens.

All week after joining the Steelers, Mike Williams never ran the route that was his winning TD catch Sunday

He was in because Calvin Austin was injured, so Russell Wilson literally told Williams where to line up what route to run that he did

Seems worth some DFS lineups this week if Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton sits

Ravens are the worse team against WRs in the league ofc but that’s with Hamilton in, with him out they weren’t even covering Ja’mar Chase in the end zone after he had scored two TDs against them
