WR Odell Beckham, Jr., MIA (5 Viewers)

surprised nobody has brought this up

https://nypost.com/2018/07/24/odell-beckham-jr-accused-of-trying-to-pay-woman-for-sex/

New York Giants star Odell Beckham Jr. tried to illegally pay $1,000 to have sex with a woman — and there is “evidence” to prove it, according to explosive new court papers filed in California.

The allegations were laid out in an email from lawyer Emmanuel Nsahlai to opposing counsel that was attached to a lawsuit claiming Beckham’s one-time pal Ishmael Temple was assaulted at the Pro Bowler’s Beverly Hills home in January.

Nsahlai was apparently responding to an attempt by Beckham and his attorney, Daniel Davillier, to “smear” his client’s name.

“You want to call my client a ‘pimp,’ when he is a Hollywood Nightlife Promoter?” Nsahlai wrote, in reference to Temple.

“Well, again, what does that say about your client interacting with ‘pimps,’” Nsahlai adds in the July 4 email to Beckham’s legal team.

“And by the way, my client is not a pimp, nor even a provider of escort services, as I have repeatedly told you. In contrast, we have evidence of your client offering $1K to sleep with a girl from Arizona visiting LA known to my client.”

Nsahlai notes how the alleged act is “illegal” — a violation of California’s Penal Code 647(b).

“It is called ‘solicit prostitution,’ I think. I believe its a felony, but you are free to look that up yourself,” he says.

Nsahlai also claims to have “evidence of drugs of the most prohibited types” being “readily available and consumed” at Beckham house parties.

Nsahlai goes on to say that he offered to drop the lawsuit for $225,000 but a deal was never agreed upon. It’s unclear why.

Temple filed the initial suit in March — claiming he got beat up by Beckham, his personal chef, and his private security guard to “almost a loss of his life” following a confrontation he had with them the week before. The alleged assault occurred on January 14.

“As if this was not inhuman enough, Beckham then further committed assault and battery by asking that the plaintiff be thrown out of his house in the early hours of the morning even though plaintiff was soaked with blood, cut lips, lost numerous front teeth, gnashed eye lids, bloodied clothes and semi-conscious,” the complaint says. “Yet, it was this very Beckham who sent a [text message] to plaintiff, inviting him to his residence. It was defendant Beckham who knew, prior to the incident…that his security guard had assaulted plaintiff, and promised to keep plaintiff safe.

Beckham was even told on that January 14, 2018, that his security guard had pulled a gun on plaintiff, and yet assured plaintiff no harm will come to him.

“Acting as his agents, Beckham and the others committed heinous torts against plaintiff,” the complaint adds. “They acted with total and wanton disregard for his life in not even calling for an ambulance service for him, getting him medical attention, as he bled to near unconsciousness.”

In a separate statement, Temple’s lawyer accused Beckham and his legal team of using a “vicious smear and intimidation campaign of character assassination, false statements, lies and threats” to try and scare him into dropping the case.

“Mr. Temple believes that his old friend Mr. Beckham’s public relations team and camp have gone into overdrive to discredit him, leak false stories about him to the media, and get him blacklisted as an event organizer and promoter in Hollywood,” Nsahlai said.

“Utilizing his power and resources, Mr. Beckham may have also called the witnesses to the incident to request their noncooperation with regards to any investigation. Odell Beckham Jr. is undoubtedly one of the iconic sportspersons throughout the nation and millions of young kids idolize him for his talent and charisma. However, from his behavior, serious questions must be asked whether this extremely popular athlete barely deserves that kind of fan following.”

Beckham’s camp has repeatedly denied the beat-down allegations and filed anti-SLAPP motions to dismiss. His lawyer said Tuesday that there wasn’t any truth to the solicitation accusations, either.

“Mr. Beckham denies the recently added allegations and further denies any wrongdoing whatsoever related to the alleged incident,” Davillier told The Post in a statement.

“As stated before, He will not be extorted and his position as to the pending suit has not changed,” Davillier added. “Specifically, Mr. Beckham’s legal team remains fully prepared to vigorously defend against these outlandish and unsubstantiated claims. We are preparing a complaint against the Plaintiff and his attorney for civil extortion.”

Temple is suing the Giants wide receiver for $15 million.

Odell Beckham - WR -  Giants

The Athletic reports Odell Beckham was "getting a lot of work from the slot" on Thursday.

This would be an easy way to get Beckham more targets and more plus matchups, but ex-coach Ben McAdoo was usually averse. Just 12.4 percent of Beckham's snaps came in the slot last season. That number was 15.3 percent in 2016.

Is Zeke not good for the NFL?
Zeke beat women 3 separate occasions, allegedly, not just offer 1k to have sex with them. The NFL won't care unless OBJ struck them. It's not right, but it's how it will go down. This won't make the news

Edit to add:

I'm actually not surprised to hear about the drugs, but more surprised that OBJ hasn't tested positive for anything ever. It's possible this is just nonsense from the one side trying to extort OBJ, but at the same time I feel like drug use is more common than most people realize with athletes.

It would have been very easy to say there was no criminal charges and the lead investigator recommended no suspension. They also went after Brady pretty hard.

Well most drugs are out of your system the next day and I think the players generally know when they will be tested.

Players get several chances with the drugs before it results in penalty. It would not surprise me if he already has a few marks on his chart.

Zeke and Brady were proven guilty - it was Goodell's judgement ... Jameis Winston, guilty of ???   that's right, nothing ..... suspended anyway

OBJ with the drug videos and now this, I'm seeing suspension and his diva attitude don't help

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports the Giants "are currently valuing" Odell Beckham at less than the $16 million per year Sammy Watkins received from the Chiefs this offseason.

Owner John Mara has given lip service to the Giants wanting to work out a long-term deal, but they are not actually serious about it if this is what they think Beckham is worth. Only 25 and arguably the best receiver in the league, Beckham's next deal should top the $17 million per year Antonio Brown received from the Steelers.

The Giants are pretty damn stupid if that’s true.
But aren't these leaks pretty pointless because the real devil is in the details? This was obviously released by the agent, which suggests to me he really wants the long-term guarantees..... but he's going to complain about the avg salary unless that comes up as well.

It's being simplified to, "NYG won't give him the $16mil/season that Watkins got!"

In reality, isn't it pretty likely the Giants would LOVE to pay Odell $17+mil/season for the next decade..... IF that was for 16 games and the Giants had an opt-out at the end of each season? I'm guessing that still wouldn't make Odell's agent happy either.

BTW, I'm not saying the NYG are being fair or smart in this instance, just that this "news" blurb sounds like an agent manipulating the media 101.

Can’t teams just cut players whenever they want? I know there is guaranteed money but isn’t that usually just signing bonus plus 1 or 2 years salary? Also they are ridiculous if they think OBJ missing part of last year with an ankle injury means he deserves less money or is a big injury risk. Going into last year he only missed 4 of 48 possible games. Injuries happen, the ankle injury was just part of football. It’s a 25 year old receiver with a 16 game career average of 107/1500/13

Oh, I'm not speaking to the OBJ injury risk.... just to the injury risk of ANY NFL player. That imo is why the players want to sign the long term deal as soon as possible.

They CAN cut a player whenever they want but it can come with big salary cap penalties(depending on how the contract is structured) and often times they still owe that player money even if he is no longer on the roster anymore.

The reality is the agent(player) want as much guaranteed money as possible AND the highest salary possible when the reality of the market(at least in the NFL) is that you get a mix of the two. Cousins probably could have averaged over $30mil/season if he was willing to take less guaranteed $ for instance.

Over the past several days, Odell Beckham Jr’s agent Zeke Sandhu & the #Giants engaged in good-faith negotiations on a deal that would make him the highest paid WR in the NFL, sources say. They aren’t there yet, but the sides are encouraged a deal could be done before the season.

If you are offered the highest contract for a WR in NFL history, just take it.

That, or you could spend time trying to weasel a couple more million out of them, get hurt, and end up with none of it.

In the high hopes article....am I the only one that's a little worried hearing OBJ say he still feels his ankle and he's "trying his best to get back to 100%"

Why hasn't this been talked about more?  First I've heard of it.  I was torn between OBJ and Julio for my #3 overall WR but this makes me lean Julio

assuming OBJ is healthy, how concerned is everyone about the QB? I know all his weapons were hurt last year but are we just brushing aside the fact that Eli's yards/attempt have trended down each of the past 4 years?

Eli Manning has never been an elite QB and at age 37, it is possible (likely) his best days are behind him.

With new toy Saquon Barkley being such a good receiving threat, I could see Eli opting for the higher percentage, shorter throws rather than pushing the ball downfield. To be clear, this is not to say OBJ won't "get his". He's a dynamic player in his prime (assuming health). But the Eli Manning factor does give me slight pause when comparing OBJ against the other elite WR's.

Not concerned about Eli, in fact he is one of the guys I am targeting in my super-flex where QBs go much earlier than in traditional (i.e. novice) leagues.

I am more concerned about the fact that Eli has, on paper, a ton of receiving targets aside from OBJ, which may cap his upside a bit.

the Giants had the worst RBs and no other wr's to realistically take the pressure off of Beckham...so teams total focus was on stopping Beckham....now with Engram, Sterling, Barkley and Beckham they have 3 top players at their position and a good #2 wr which should lead to a more balanced offense where you can't just key on one player to stop it.  I have no illusions that Eli is going to be great but he's a smart vet and still should be good enough to make the right plays and get the ball in the hands of the players that can do some damage.

but do the decling y/att from Eli indicate him losing arm strength?  does anyone have obj's depth of target numbers by year?  is it possible that Eli can't get the deep ball consistently enough, thereby limiting OBJ's upside?

Anyone else get the feeling OBJ is in for one of those Randy Moss like monster years?  Where next year we’re talking him as a #1 overall candidate, as opposed to rankings this year that have him at WR3?

I do. He’s handling the contract situation beautifully.

Odell Beckham - WR -  Giants

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Giants and contract-year WR Odell Beckham are "closing in" on a five-year "mega" extension.

The Giants made this harder than it needed to be, but the saga is still ending where it should. Beckham is going to be the highest-paid receiver in football, a richly-deserved designation for a 25-year-old wideout who has played the football Beckham has since 2014.

The #Giants and WR Odell Beckham Jr have agreed to terms on a 5-year extension worth a whopping $95M, source said. He gets the highest guarantee ever for a WR at $65M and averages $20M over the first 3 years. Nice job by the #NYG and agent Zeke Sandhu getting this done. Win/win

NFL player contracts suck. One of the 10 best players in the game gets 5 year $95 million. Mozgov, a below average NBA Center, got 4 years $64 million. Which is basically the same guaranteed cash as OBJ. If he played baseball, he'd sitting on a $250 million+ deal.

53 players vs 12 vs 25
