WR Rashod Bateman, BAL (1 Viewer)

Andrews is out, this is pretty much his last chance to show someting
If he’s still not heavily involved in the offense after this then I hope he forces the issue in the offseason and gets traded to another organization. It was already a bad fit going to a team that historically doesn’t feature the WR that much. Bateman is a prototypical X receiver and just needs to stay healthy and get targets, he’ll handle the rest. He just looks the part.
They seemed to really want to get him involved more- especially last year but maybe being hurt so much has caused him to lose the trust of the team.

I couldn't have been more wrong about Bateman and he has turned into one of those dynasty assets that will rot on your bench. I no longer have any shares. I recently sold him for a 2nd round rookie pick in a DEVY league and that is a league, because the rookie draft is separate from the DEVY draft, tremendously devalues rookie picks and the last pick in the round and a 14 team league. I didn't care. Somehow I don't believe that will come back to haunt me.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said WR Rashod Bateman will see the football “a lot more” in 2024.

Harbaugh said at the NFL Combine that he expected Bateman to “take a big step” in his third NFL season. In early February, Harbaugh said Bateman, 24, would be a starter in the Baltimore offense in 2024, a year after he managed a meager 32 catches on 56 targets. Harbaugh’s offseason praise of Bateman is something to file away for fantasy draft season, even if Bateman is sure to be third or fourth in the team’s pass-catching pecking order.

I'll believe it when I see it. True coach speak there.

Definite coach speak. "A lot more" than 32 catches can be something like 48 catches, and I'm still skeptic he'll get that. Andrews is there, Flowers is there, they brought back Agholor, they'll probably bring another WR in FA and/or the draft, and have to think Likely will get more involved now that he's shown himself capable. That's all while factoring in this is still a run-first team. I stashed Bateman on the off-chance that he's traded, but otherwise he's a cut for me. Won't be worth anything in Baltimore.

I would love for this to be true.

As I understand it, he was still recovering a bit and didn’t have his speed back until a ways into the season.

He’s still just 24, and profiles well. I guess time (and the draft) will tell. I’m assuming OBJ is gone, so that would leave Bateman & Flowers as the 2 primary receivers?

It’ll be interesting to see how this develops.

From your lips to God's ears. Drafted the guy three years ago and drumming my fingers .......

I bought semi-low in one league, and a little too high in another. Fingers crossed. If he can become a ~50/700/5 guy I’ll count my blessings.

IIRC there was some bad blood between him & Harbaugh for social media comments or something? Maybe that’ll help with a trade.

Wow, I really find the "Similar Threads" suggestions below concerning.
While difficult to argue with results to-date, I still like Bateman’s chances more than any of Quez, Ty Johnson, or Isiah Coulter.

Not sure if we all get the same “similar threads” tho :oldunsure:

Isn that like choosing between the four ugliest girls at closing time?
Not if one of the girls was recovering from facial surgery, but a heck of a try at an analogy. Gold star.

Todd Monken plans on getting Rashod Bateman more involved and expects a "tremendous" year:

"Oh, for sure. You know, last year was interesting in the fact that we had Odell [Beckham Jr.] and Bate had missed offseason and some of Fall camp. 'Is he going to be healthy? So put Odell at X.'

"Then in the beginning of the year, Bate gets a little banged up and so does Odell. So here you are and you're already in the season. We could've done a better job of moving them around, for sure.

"But as the year went on, Rashod really came on. And I've seen tremendous growth, but the growth is just because he didn't have an offseason last year. I didn't see that.

"But I expect a tremendous year out of him."

Bateman: “I feel like there was a lot of things that I could have done differently (last year), to help Lamar, to help the team.”

Andrews on Rashod Bateman: “He looks incredible. He looks as put together as he’s ever been. It’s going to be a big year for Rashod Bateman. I’m calling it now.”

WR Coach Greg Lewis on how much untapped potential there is in Rashod Bateman: "I wouldn't say it's untapped potential. The ball just hasn't found him in certain situations. He comes out here everyday and shows what he's capable of doing. ... It's just about more opportunities, and then more production."

Monken is saying a lot of good things. Bateman appears to be long past injury and headed for a clear-cut role as the WR2, which puts him 3rd in targets behind Andrews & Flowers.

Injury could open up even more targets for him.

I was wondering why I was all of a sudden receiving offers for him in all 3 leagues I have him. Nothing worth taking, but still.

Bateman was a favorite of mine coming into the NFL. And he’s still just 24. Big, fast, good hands, runs sharp routes.

Injury has derailed a promising career, but he could still have that 3rd year breakout.

It would be a 4th year breakout at this point (wild how time flies) but I could see Bateman really benefitting if one of Andrews/Flowers goes down to injury. I can’t seem to quit him, there’s just something about him. I was too enamored in the pre-Draft process. While I’m not crazy about his situation, I still believe in the talent and still think he can be their X-receiver. He’s an end of the bench guy so if he doesn’t pan out I can just let him clog my roster anyway because I’m a masochist cut him.

I thought he was finally going to be an easy cut for me this offseason. Going to be harder to do with the stupid positive chatter. Maybe it could help me get a late pick for him instead, though.

I just offered Bateman & the 2.08 for the 2.04 in one league. Figure I'll try and get a small bump somewhere if possible. Pretty tired of carrying him, would rather have Jason Bateman at his point. Maybe even Justine.

Yeah this sounds like the move I had to make with Gallup two offseasons ago. Moved up from like 3.02 to 2.10 or something.

I don’t know… Y’all have held on this long. Sounds like you’re giving him away for nothing rather than wait. A couple months to see if the hype is real. This is Monken‘s second season is OC, and he sounds awfully excited about Bateman‘s potential.

Yeah, I don't think I'll be selling yet. Our draft isn't until August or September.

Tired of Bateman clogging my roster for three years. Traded him for Rashee Rice
You got Rice straight up?

Sheesh. That's a great deal, even if Rice is suspended half a season. Bateman is at best the #3 option on a team that typically throws for less than 3800 total yards.

Does anyone really see a situation where you start him, not counting injuries?
Only if he has a super breakout (whether due to teammates' injuries or not), or for like a "3 injury, 2 bye all in one week" fill in.
I would have thought any kind of breakout would have happened before now. He played in 16 games last year and had 32 receptions and 367 yards and 1 TD. This will be his 4th season.

Less receiving yards than Likely and Agular last year. They are still on the team. Bateman is a roster clogger despite the hype and OBJ leaving.

Actually it was Bateman and Demario Douglas
For
Rice, Michael Mayer and 6.04
That’s a little better.

I believe it has been said :)

For comparison, Fantasy Pros has Rice WR 27 in dynasty PPR and Bateman is WR 78. Draft Sharks has Rice 36 and Bateman 74.

IMO, there is no world that you didn't crush that trade

I don't disagree. He is still a borderline cut to me. But the hyping up makes it tougher. I'm sure there are uncommon cases of WR's that don't break out until year four. It can be hard to judge. The dude can't break out without targets. But whose fault is the lack of targets? Probably his own. But can he fix whatever is broken? 🤷‍♂️ Coachspeak has to be taken very lightly, but the HC and OC are both saying good things.

A lot of that this time of year. Best shape of their life, etc. Could also be trying to get something for him in a trade.

He has talent, but I just don't see much FF upside for him. Kind of guy that will have 4-5 decent FF games, but you're lucky if you had him in your lineup on even one of those. Plus, if Henry stays healthy all season, probably be even less passing this year. Flowers and Andrews will get the bulk of the action so not a lot of scraps to go around.

@32BeatWriters
Early breakout candidate:
“I'll go with Rashod Bateman as my known commodity. With a healthy finish to last season and offseason, and now with Odell Beckham Jr. not handcuffing his opportunities, Bateman is in position to flourish. He's in the right physical and mental headspace, and the Ravens offense is going to lean on him opposite Zay Flowers. It all lines up. Bateman's career highs of 46 catches and 515 yards came during his rookie year. He'll easily hurdle those numbers this season.”

I told you all last year, get rid. Zay is the monster in Baltimore.

This guy is at best the #3 option in a team that doesn't pass all that much. And honestly, with the rookies and Henry in town, he's probably the #5 option

As always, context matters. Injured his groin in camp 21, missed all summer reps and a 1/3 of the season, then after returning was frequently limited with the same injury- showed glimpses, but not consistently. Started trending in the right direction early '22 once the Hollywood Brown trade freed up targets, but injured his foot game 5. He returned and tried to play through, but wasn't successful and opted for the knife. Passing offense regressed without him. Ravens actions in '23 offseason (drafted Zay, signed OBJ to stupid $) indicated something was up then about this time last year complications with his foot surgery surfaced. Missed camp because of them and Ravens managed his workload all season, but when OBJ departed this offseason they did nothing to replace him and have been pumping him up any chance they get.

Now, does that mean I'm betting on the breakout? No. Does that mean I'm trying to acquire him? Well, I was, but that window may have slammed shut this week. But there is a reason I was sprinkling in offers over the last few months, throw-in types of deals, and I was able to secure him in all but one league. In the relative strong likelihood he doesn't pan out, it'll be easy to move on from him and I didn't give up much capital to find out with him on my roster. There's a qualified narrative to latch onto to see how he can beat those odds and at a ~WR70 price, why not buy? I much prefer using the end of my roster on this type that I'll know what to do with by midseason rather than someone I need to hold onto longer and lacks a ceiling.
