WR Sammy Watkins, BAL (1 Viewer)

I don't like rookie WR's that much but definitely bought in my money league. Very excited with him having a capable QB moving forward.
Who did they sign today? All kidding aside Orton should be better for Watkins and I would assume we start to see some big plays out of him now that the rib appears to be healed. As long as they can keep running the ball it should leave enough room for even Orton to make some plays.

Rotoworld:

Sammy Watkins - WR - Bills

Sammy Watkins expects to be shadowed by Darrelle Revis Sunday.

Revis has been doing more shadowing lately, eliminating Greg Jennings in Week 2 and doing a reasonable job on A.J. Green in Week 5. Watkins is trending up in a big way with E.J. Manuel benched and Kyle Orton in, but a rookie vs. Revis is a major concern for the box score. "We actually found he's gonna be following me around the field, so I'm gonna have to be prepared for his jams," Watkins said. Perhaps Sammy owners can cling to hope in Dwayne Bowe's Week 4 performance (5-81-0).

Revis has struggled some against quicker receivers this year. The new contact rules have hurt Revis a lot in dealing with those smaller guys. I could see Sammy getting open on Revis quite a bit.

So now it's a good thing to be a smaller receiver?

:mindblown:

Revis or not, Watkins is getting too many targets nowadays to not start him. Besides, after the game last week, NBC showed that stat that said Bengals WRs caught like 3-60something against Revis, so while still great, he isn't gonna keep Watkins off the stat sheet altogether. I am not saying I expect a huge day out of Watkins, but I think he'll still be solid.

Revis isn't good anymore. The media types just love acting like he is and are propping his game vs. Green up. Green beat him at least 3 times deep. 2 were misses by Dalton. The other was a completion. He really didn't ahut Green down at all and it should have been much worse.

??? Revis completely dominated Green. Green got him once on a deep ball, but overall he physically destroyed Green, and the TD came on the very play after Revis left the game.

No he didn't. Not even close. The commentators would like for you to believe that, though.

5 Catches on 7 Targets for 81 Yards and a TD is hardly domination. The 17 yard TD was when Revis was out but its not like Green was invisible the rest of the game. The numbers are a little low but I think that's more due to the pressure NE was able to get on Dalton.

This may not be entirely accurate. Green was probably not 100% even in that game. He did re-aggravate his toe in practice, but I'd bet he was sub-par during that game as well. Watkins appears to be completely healthy now so we could see a big game from him.

Only 3 targets today against Revis all day. He did catch 2 of them and the 3rd one he did make a great catch but he just missed getting both feet in. It looks as though he was open on a few plays, but Orton did not have time or was passing to other guys who were wide open.

The commentators? I watched the entire game. Revis manhandled Green for most of the game, aside from the one deep ball.

Thinking he'll bounce back nicely this week. Maybe wishful thinking as he is replacing AJ in my starting lineup, but he had been trending upwards until the meeting with Revis.

Only concern is Orton targeting him enough.

I have him in as my wr2 in a 14-team and am slowly shifting into wait-and-see mode. Debating chasing last week's stats and playing Andre Holmes instead. Or even Allen Robinson.

PS

Get well soon, Calvin.

Then we watched different games.

Did this guy grow 2 inches? Two touchdowns in one game including the game winner at the buzzer. Thought his height deficiency would keep him out of the endzone. Can't wait to see Evans and Matthews do the same seeing that they have elite measureables and all. Hard to imagine Manuel making that throw.

You realize more than one rookie WR can be good, right? You seem a little aggressive here.

Watkins had a tremendous game today. Losing Spiller & FJax, it came down to him being their main weapon on offense and he didn't disappoint.

14 targets, 9 rec, 122 yards, and 2 TD

With only 5 seconds remaining and no timeouts, everyone knew the Bills were going to Watkins and he was still able to get open and make a very nice catch to win the game. He has outstanding body control and had no problem getting both feet in on the game winning catch.

It appears him and Orton are getting on the same page. With the RB injuries, I expect this offense to flow thru Watkins now.

it continues to shock me how quickly this guy gets a yard or two separation. that last route was just three steps and he was already pretty wide open. lookin forward to starting this guy for years.

best part was a leaguemate who's been chirping about how much better kelvin is all year said before the play that if sammy scores he'll shut up about him forever. woohoo!

This is great. Just great!

What's great? You didn't address my question.

WARNING: I deliberately set out looking for some fun Watkins stats, so take this with a grain of salt, but...

Sammy Watkins just became the 7th rookie in history to top 8 receptions, 100 yards, and 1 TD in two different games. Just seven games into the season, Watkins is the fastest rookie to ever reach that mark.

Definitely a cherry picking stat, but for those that have got to watch him play through the first 7 weeks Watkins is going to be a ppr monster. Watkins is as good as advertised. As I said earlier this is the reason the Bills moved up to get this guy is because he can win you games. Through this young season and 7 games into his career he has already been a huge contributor to their wins and I am guessing they would not have won2 of their 4 games had he not been on their roster this year. As they sit at 4 and 3 it would look a whole lot different at 2 and 5.

But Sammy isn't ELITE LMAO like half of these posters said. :bs:  Actually looks better then AJGreen, Calvin and Julio as rookies so anyone saying he isn't elite doesn't know football. :sadbanana: . Try a new hobby like GOLF OR TENNIS if that's the case. :thanks:

Except his TDs don't count since he's too short to catch touchdowns, so really he had 8 receptions, 100 yards, and 0 TDs in those games.

Hey wise guy, you do realize Evans and Matthews are better because they are taller. Sure they havent produced but they win the underwear Olympics and thats all that matters. Sammy is a flash in the pan WR3 at best due to lack of redzone skills (cant outjump defenders draped over him). Problem is he keeps outrunning them and gaining too much separation. Once he stops doing that you will see!

Especially against a guy that was the universally top ranked rookie WR...so it's not like Watkins was being discounted.

yea this thread should be closed anyone with a football brain can see this kid is special and a super stud in the making. No torrey smith or percy harvin here folks like the haters want to say.

I have a bunch of games on at once at 1:00 on Sundays, so it's hard to focus too much on any one game. So I went back and watched every snap of the Minnesota/Buffalo game on Rewind. Allowed me to kill three birds with one stone, since I have Orton, Sammy and McKinnon. Long story short.... MUCH respect for Revis shutting down Sammy a couple of weeks ago. It's scary the ease with which this kid gets open. The defender is with him -- and then he's not. I'm honestly not sure how Revis did it. The way the Bills line him up, he can get open pretty much anytime he feels like it. I'm anxious to go back and watch the All-22 footage of the New England game so I can see exactly what they did to him. And I'm also wondering if there are any matchups to worry about going forward.

Please post back after watching the NE game. I have a feeling Sammy was open more than what everyone is assuming. We are not dealing with Peyton Manning at QB here.

Revis didn't totally shut him down. The Bills had him running a lot of go routes that basically reduced him to a decoy role and I'm not sure Orton looked in his direction all that much. Seemed like the coaches were not really willing to turn him loose and probably played it too safe.
