WR S. Smith Practices, Still Game Time Decision

CBS SportsLine.com - [Full Article]

Panthers WR Steve Smith practiced for the second straight day on Friday as he continues to recover from a strained hamstring. "He looked good," said HC John Fox. Fox said it will be a game-time decision if Smith plays Sunday at Tampa Bay.

As expected, Steve Smith was on the flight with the team to Tampa.

He's still considered a game-time decision, but it remains likely that he will play because he was a full participant in Panthers practice late last week. The inactives will be posted roughly an hour before game time (1:00 ET for Panthers at Buccaneers).

Steve Cohen just reported on WFAN that the Panthers will work out Smith at 11 am and see where he is at. Cohen said he expects Smith to be some sort of a decoy if he plays because he never really opened it up during the week of practice.

Why even play then?

Keep in mind that this "decoy" talk is only one guys opinion. My money is that Smith puts up close to typical Steve Smith numbers if he plays, which I think he will.

Steve Smith is one bad Mo' Fo'. He is no one's decoy. If he suits up, he is in it for all the marbles.

:goodposting: I'm not 100% sure that Smith will play today, but I am 100% sure that if he feels like it's not a risk to test the hammy, then he's going to be as involved in the gameplan as he would be if he was never injured.Smith missed 15 games in 2004 due to injury. He's not going to pull a Randy Moss and limp around the field to be a decoy and risk having 2006 be another wasted year.

Steve Smith is being stretched out so it is most likely he will play according to Panthers radio (WBT) from of Tampa

Mort reports Smith said he's in "mental warfare" with his body after 2 hamstring injuries. Mort says don't expect much this week if he plays.

IMO Smith worked out at full speed all week. Fox even said they didnt hold anything back. Also Smith has said he wont come back until hes 100%. Also, Smith got a 2nd opinion which I first thought was bad news but in hindsight was probably just medical clearance from a doctor outside of the Panthers staff.

All signs point to being fine to play this week if he plays.

Steve Smith

Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting cornerback Brian Kelly is expected to miss this week's game against the Carolina Panthers with a toe injury. That leaves nickel corner Juran Bolden with the unenviable task of matching up with Pro Bowl wide receiver Steve Smith, who will be making his season debut for the Panthers after missing the first two games with a lingering hamstring injury.

15/200/3....lets go steve!!! :boxing: :P

i am sorry then :bag:

Guys, please keep the info geared towards Steve Smith and his injury. There will be planty of time to discuss Mort and ESPN later.

In regards to Smith being a decoy, I don't see it. With the risk of falling to 0-3 today, they are not in a position to hold anything back.

Steve Smith, WR CAR

News: Panthers WR Steve Smith will play at Tampa Bay in Week 3, according to a team source. No word was given if Smith will start. He was listed as questionable for the game with a hamstring strain that kept him out of the first two games this season.

Analysis: You didn't draft Smitty to have him on your bench, did you? Get him active for the game as he should be a helpful contributor for the Panthers (consider him more of a No. 2 Fantasy WR).

Steve Smith is active for today's game.We know it's a gamble, but we'd have a hard time benching Smith in fantasy leagues, even at less than 100%. Only sit him if you have a very competent option.

So, he is starting, what should we expect from him his first week back? I have Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce against the Cards, I am thinking of starting both of them and waiting until next week to go with Steve Smith.

Definetely start Smith over Bruce. Maybe even over Holt.

What makes you think this? Smith hasnt played and has only practiced twice in like 8 weeks. What kind of production can really be expected from him>No way I would start him over Holt. Bruce has been getting some looks.

I think you only start him if your opponent has you overmatched and you need the "possibility" of homerun to win. If you games looks to be pretty tight and you have options other than Smith, I think you have to go with that other option.

The Carolina season is on the line. If they go 3 down in the division this early they are toast. I say Smith gets 100 yards. Starting with confidence. Of course my other option was Mike Bell in the flex spot due to bye week issues. :bag:

Please, guys. Every time there's a new post in this thread, a bunch of people jump back in here to see if there's a news update . . . not to find out what other WRs some poster or another has on his fantasy team.
