WR Tee Higgins, CIN (1 Viewer)

I guess good news of him being close this week and feeling better is we are likely looking at a one week thing
Man alive, this looks like its' going to be wrong and I should have known better then to trust Tee after he said he was feeling great after that hamstring injury that cost him some games to begin the season.

But DNP today and I recently saw a video from Dr. Chao which crapped all over the notion you can return to play in 9 days after a quad injury as it heavily impacts your stop/start ability.

Messed up last week, didn't wake up in time to set my final roster before the early games (waking up after a Halloween party will do that to ya...), ate a 0 that lost me the game. Not gonna risk even assuming he'll be active this week, rolling with Downs over Higgins unless he suddenly starts participating in full.

Please NE don't trade for this bum.
I doubt they woould trade for him . . . but they more than likely will sign him in the off-season (if he hits the open market). I have heard a ton of people suggest they will give him a blank check and have him fill in the amount. Since so few players want to come to NE these days, they will be willing to overpay and pony up the suck tax. He is their top offseason target, and being almost $170M under the cap next year (after they roll over the unused portion from this season), it's unlikely they would lose a bidding war. I hope that doesn't happen, as I don't think Higgins is worth Top 5 money, nor do I think he would be all that great a #1 receiver.

If he’s such a bum then why do fantasy players still hold high value for him?
As a side note I split at least one FFPC Main Event team with an old childhood friend every year and he hates Tee. I twisted his arm and got him to agree to let me draft Tee in the middle of the 5th round.

My sales pitch was when he plays he'll put up stats on par with the WR's going late second/round 3 and that his injury risk and missing and potentially missing a few games was built into his price.

We talked yesterday and he asked me where I'd take Tee next year, would he now need to be like a 7th round guy assuming he was in an equally good situation? I really could not answer but for sure will need to be lower then a 5th. I'm really very slow to assign the injury risk label to players, think it's more bad luck but whatever it is here it's to much.

I have no faith in him as a true #1. None. Want no part of him. Guy cannot stay on the field.

Higgins has been tough to figure out what his fantasy value should be. In 0 PPR leagues, since he came in the league, he ranks 21st in PPR (minimum 10 games played). In 1 PPR league, based on ppg), he's ranked 40th, 14th, 29th, 42nd, and 12th so far this season. His ADP was WR27 heading into this season. As you said, he misses a lot of time. IMO, he greatly benefits from having Chase. If he ends up on another team as a WR1, I am not sure that will boost his numbers (unless he stays healthy and is a target monster).

He will be worth the draft cost next year too considering his fantasy PPG is usually better than his ADP suggests. It's just that people don't like to have "injury prone" players but honestly, with managing waivers appropriately, I may take a flier on more injury prone guys next year.

However, waivers always vary per season.

I know that no one here has any inside knowledge, and we’re all just speculating, but does anyone think Tee will be out next week in week 10 against the Ravens?

Not sure how long quad injuries like these can linger. Especially for someone who sits out games for the littlest soft tissue things.

Would be a bummer for Tee owners since nobody is more generous to WRs than the Ravens defense. Might be good for Gesicki though.

From today's news:

"Footballguys view: Higgins is officially doubtful, but we can project the Bengals offense without him for the matchup against the Raiders. He's probably not going to play on Thursday night against the Ravens in Week 10 either."

Granted, that's just an opinion, but given that the Ravens game is on TNF (3 days less rest), it makes sense to think there is a good chance he sits in Week 10 as well.

You’ve helped me out a lot. This news just caused me to pick up Gesicki to (potentially!) cover Kraft’s week 10 bye. Thanks!

I did something similar. Grabbed Gesicki in a couple of leagues where I have bye (or injury) issues either this week or next at a flex spot. Dropped Lazard who is now on IR. Best case, everybody who is currently "Q" is healthy, and I don't need to use him. But, that's probably unlikely to happen. Worst case, I plus in Gesicki (and it's 1.5 PPR for TE). Better safe than sorry.

Was thinking this myself. Currently have T. Hill for Bowers but this is a short turnaround so maybe Higgins is out again.

You got Joe Brrrrr slinging the football all over the field for a million yards and tds and this knucklehead can’t stay off the trainers table to even benefit.

At this rate, I don’t see how any organization is going to feel comfortable handing out a large, lucrative contract to this dude in the offseason.
I do wonder if his injury is partially related to not getting a contract. He may just be “slow” to recover based on that.

Safe assumption. I expect different teams will view that differently and some may remove him completely for it, but it only takes 1 so he will still get paid.

Once they roll over their unused cap space into next year, the Patriots will have almost $170 million in cap space to play with. They are desperate to sign someone and have the worst WR room in the league. They will make an offer that will likely be $5 million a year over anyone else, will guarantee most of it, and will probably tack on an extra year for good measure. Almost every guy that covers the team says he is their #1 target in the offseason and money is no object. They won't care about his injuries, anything off field, or anything else. Be prepared for NE to offer him Top 5 money. I expect it will be one of the biggest overpays we have ever seen.

NE drafted Polk and Baker for some reason, they should play them a lot now, and not have to spend on a bum like Higgins. I dont pay any attention to NE, but I dont think an overpriced WR will fix their issues. But, if they want to do it, no one is gonna stop them. Sad part is, teams will be drooling over Higgins, and is he worth it? I'd say no, and I've had him on my dynasty team for years.

Yeah, good take. He's getting overpaid right now. Unfortunately, he's currently on my roster.

Both of these guys have been major problems for the Pats so far. Polk has had issues on and off the field. Mostly maturity, can't keep his mouth shut, hasn't been a great teammate, and can't catch (only 10 catches on 27 targets with some ugly drops). He's in the doghouse and only played 9 snaps last week. Baker also was mouthy about what his role should be. He's only played 10 snaps on offense this year on a WR group that has no talent . . . so that can't be a good thing. NE is on the verge of dropping Osborn and Thornton because neither one of them wants to be there. They are forced to roll with Bourne, Douglas, and Boutte. Like I said, they are desperate to get an experienced, talented WR1. They swung and missed on Hopkins, Ridley, and Aiyuk. The only way they are going to land someone in free agency is to overspend. The other option is to trade for someone, but they haven't accomplished that either (they have been linked to trading for Higgins for two years) . . . and I am sure they would have to pony up a new contract to get someone in a trade as well.

He was tossing the ball around in a practice jersey yesterday… even though he was listed as DNP.

I wonder if he practices today, and forces my hand to decide on Thursday.

I almost hope he’s out and practiced in full next week so I don’t even have to think about it.

Not saying this as any kind of retort, in fact maybe you agree; but when a team has that many malcontents in the locker room I stop looking at the individual players and start looking at the staff and front office. I think the Bears are a more high profile example of this right now, but sounds like the Pats might not be far off. It's not normal for rookies to have that kind of attitude already in their first year, especially when neither were very high picks to begin with.

NE has a myriad of issues. IMO, the current staff is in way over their collective heads. No one had called plays before, Mayo and Covington had never been coordinators before. Van Pelt was a defacto OC in CLE but mostly in title only. None of these guys really developed players before. On the front office side, they got rid of BB but kept and promoted the talent evaluation team that produced multiple poor drafts. As far as the WRs go, the staff was ill-prepared to deal with their chirping. Mayo is said to be a good communicator, but he's not a disciplinarian. The coaching staff acts like they are tough but they aren't. The players are way too vocal and are allowed to remain vocal. I get that they wanted to pivot away from how BB did things, but the way they have been doing things is just bad business. Teams were interested in acquiring some of their WRs . . . yet they could not figure out a suitable trade for any of them. Things are so bad in the WR room that there is talk of them dropping guys they could have traded. Inside the locker room, they don't have a lot of vocal leaders, and they don't have personalities to put anyone in their place. It's not going to be Maye . . . he's 22. IMO, they needed an experienced staff that had been through a successful rebuild, had developed some core young players, and brought in a QB whisperer who had a creative approach to game scheming. They ended up with none of that. Beneath the surface, with the amount they had to shell out to BB this year to not coach (said to be $25-30M), they didn't want to spend big money on a coaching staff. They also ended up taking their treasure trove of cap space and used it to extend their own players . . . and I think they went overboard in that regard. As I said, they're a mess right now. I feel sorry for Maye, as I think he could be a keeper (but feel they will muck up the roster and his growth and development).

I have really like Maye so far. Behind JD, I think he's been the best rookie QB so far yet, or at least neck and neck with Nix. Hopefully they can improve the culture. Rumor seems to be with the college playoffs expanded as much as they are, more coaches are being put on the radar and might open the flood gates a bit more for college guys to get promoted up to the bigs. With such a young team, maybe that could be a short term answer for them.

As always, appreciate your insights as the board's Pats guy.

Higgins is a very good receiver and far from a bum. He hasn't stayed healthy and the Q here is: Is he really injured or is he playing the team because he was unhappy he was tagged and unhappy with how they treated him. You have to remember CIN is cheap cheap cheap.

NE has tons of money and they won't care about spending it on a good WR.

My worry is he goes to a team that the QB/offense suck and he gets buried. Playing with a good QB like Burrow is a big advantage.
