WR Tee Higgins, CIN (2 Viewers)

To me, Tee has a pretty good chance of being the best WR in what was one of the deeper drafts for WR in recent memory, if not ever. I realize there is a recency bias with Justin Jefferson scorching the earth coming out of the gate, CeeDee too to a lesser extent. But if I'm playing the long game here, the guys with the highest ceilings sometimes take a little longer to get going. Whether that be from a controllable developmental standpoint (physical and mental) or an uncontrollable surrounding talent and scheme standpoint, it's all about timing in the NFL. I strongly believe he is the most slept on WR coming into this year and that he will undoubtedly take it to the next level.

I'm totally biased, but agree. Starting him with confidence at WR2.

Also agree, starting him with confidence at WR3 redraft, WR5 dynasty.

Do you start him over Corey Davis, Kupp, or Evans this week?  I think Vikes DB's are improved from last year and not sure how Burrow will be out of the gate.  I really like Davis vs Carolina as I think Wilson peppers him with targets.  Thoughts?

(sorry probably a little to AC forum-ish but it's week 1)..haha

Oof - that’s a tough call.

I probably don’t start him over Evans or Kupp. I’d start him over Davis.

FBG has Henderson RB two measly spots higher than Higgins at Flex. Somebody talk me into going with Tee please. Everything coming out has Higgins continuing his breakout.

If for no other reason, I see Higgins more likely to stay healthy and on the field all season.  He would be my flex

Tee Higgins caught 4-of-5 targets for 58 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals' Week 1 win over the Vikings.

Higgins was carted off for a brief moment to receive an IV but returned to the sidelines shortly after. However, he appeared to spend the entirety of overtime on the sidelines despite reemerging from the locker room. The Bengals listed him as probable to return and it was only a dehydration issue so it's safe to assume this won't come up again. Higgins finished two targets behind Ja'Marr Chase but was also featured in the red zone. He saw more targets than Tyler Boyd, who may be the odd man out in Cincinnati if the Bengals don't take their passing volume up a notch. As his ADP predicted, Higgins can be relied upon as a low-end WR2 going forward.

Tee Higgins caught 6-of-10 targets for 60 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals' Week 2 loss to the Bears.

Higgins briefly left with a left arm injury but returned quickly and found the end zone for the second time in as many games in the fourth quarter. The second-year pro narrowly edged out Tyler Boyd for the team lead in targets. Joe Burrow has looked Higgins' way early and often through two games, so Higgins is in the WR2 mix despite squaring out against a stingy Pittsburgh defense in Week 3.

Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Tee Higgins will not practice Wednesday and is considered day-to-day.

Taylor didn't say what Higgins was dealing with but it's safe to assume his status for the Bengals' Week 3 matchup with the Steelers is up in the air. If he isn't able to play, the No. 1 role for Cincinnati would fall squarely on the shoulder of Ja'Marr Chase. Despite an infamous preseason, Chase has looked as good as expected through two weeks. The first-round rookie has 155 yards and a pair of scores so far. Both players would come in as WR2/3 fantasy options if Higgins is able to play.

This isn’t good.  Cincinnati isn’t exactly very forthcoming with injuries.  Already dealt with that as a Mixon owner last season.

Yesterday: https://bengalswire.usatoday.com/2021/09/21/bengals-injury-update-tee-higgins-shoulder-week-3-steelers/

Lost in the chaotic Week 2 loss to the Chicago Bears was the small bit of news that Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins suffered a shoulder injury.

Higgins quietly went to the blue injury tent in the middle of the game after going down and eventually walked off the field with trainers. He eventually returned to the game but his actual status was a question mark.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor addressed the injury early this week, noting that Higgins is sore but that they consider him day-to-day, according to Fox 19’s Joe Danneman: “We’ll take him day-to-day and get a better feel of how he’s feeling on Tuesday.”

Through two games, Higgins has 10 catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns. He’s predictably one of Joe Burrow’s favorite targets, so it would be a big loss for the offense on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3 if he can’t go.

Today: https://bengalswire.usatoday.com/2021/09/22/tee-higgins-ben-roethlisberger-injury-report-bengals-steelers/

he Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers are banged up ahead of their Week 3 showdown.

Those Bengals have to deal with the uncertain injury outlook for wideout Tee Higgins. He was one of four players who showed up as a DNP on today’s injury report:

WR Tee Higgins (shoulder)

CB Trae Waynes (Hamstring)

OL Xavier Su’a-Filo (knee)

DT Josh Tupou (personal)

The good news? Higgins and Waynes were at least doing rehab work at various points during practice. The injury to Su’a-Filo has him as day-to-day, but it could push rookie Jackson Carman into a starting role.

As for the Steelers, T.J. Watt and Joe Haden had a limited practice. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will apparently play through a pec injury on Sunday.

What impact will this have for Boyd (I roster him) and Chase in terms of distribution? and specifically this weekend against PIT if he is out?

He came back after the injury & caught a TD.

I’d bet he starts. PIT is good against the pass, but IMO their DBs guess a lot & sometimes give up big plays. That’s Minka Fitzpatrick’s MO anyway - big play FF DB who sometimes takes himself out of plays with a bad route or a whiff in coverage.

not sure who draws what assignment on Sunday, but this didn’t seem like a big deal.

Again, I think he’ll play; but if he were to miss the game I’d bump both Chase & Higgins. Not as much as some though, because Tate will probably replace Higgins, keeping Boyd & Chase in the same roles, but likely with more targets. I’d guess some of those targets will also go to Uzomah though.

This is all speculative - I think Higgins will play. He played through it on Sunday, and that’s usually a good indicator. If he hadn’t returned to the game I’d be more concerned. I think they just wanted to give him a chance to rest on Weds & so it has to be reported.

I’ll be looking at the Friday practice. Even if it’s a limited practice I’d expect to see him out there against PIT.

Bengals WR Tee Higgins (shoulder) did not practice on Thursday.

Zac Taylor called Higgins "day-to-day" in his Wednesday availability without clarifying exactly what the shoulder injury was. If we see a Friday practice out of Higgins, based on the available rhetoric, he should probably be on the optimistic side of questionable for Sunday's tilt with the Steelers. Be prepared to pivot to other options if you see another DNP on Friday.

Sep 23, 2021, 4:42 PM ET

Played through it Sunday + DTD = I still think he plays. IMO they're just resting him up so as to keep from aggravating the injury. I'd be surprised if they hold him out. I have a good back-up WR, but I'm optimistic.

Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson considers Tee Higgins (shoulder) "on pace" to sit for Week 3 against the Steelers after missing Wednesday and Thursday's practices.

Hobson is an excellent reporter, though it is unclear if he is passing along new information or merely connecting the dots after back-to-back DNPs. Either way it is troubling after Higgins failed to take the field on Thursday. Coach Zac Taylor has not provided much info beyond labeling Higgins "day to day." It's a case where no news does not seem to be good news. If Higgins sits, Ja'Marr Chase will flirt with top-20 status while Tyler Boyd would see WR2 volume. Higgins' Friday practice status will probably tell the tale, but he could end up a game-time decision for the 1:00 PM ET contest.

This is weird as heck. He practiced Friday after sitting Weds & Thurs, and the next report (beat writer) is that he's expected to be doubtful for Sunday.

So why would he suit up & put in a Friday practice (an upgrade) and be thought to miss the game?

Very strange progression. Maybe he's a GTD.  Weird.

Per this Ben Baby tweet it looks like they are going to further evaluate him tomorrow and may upgrade him to questionable.

Bengals coach Zac Taylor said WR Tee Higgins' shoulder soreness, pain level will play into Sunday's availability. Will be checked tomorrow, as well. Taylor: "We’ll try to give him every second we can give him before he tells us one way or the other."

Tee Higgins (shoulder) remains doubtful for Week 3 against the Steelers after a Saturday evaluation.

There was reportedly a possibility that Higgins could have been upgraded questionable after being evaluated on Saturday. The good news is that he was not ruled out, but Higgins now look looks unlikely to play on Sunday. Ja'Marr Chase should operate as the Bengals' clear No. 1 outside wide receiver with Tyler Boyd in the slot. It's likely the Bengals go with a run heavy game plan, as they did in Weeks 1-2.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Tee Higgins (shoulder, doubtful) is not expected to play in Week 3 against the Steelers.

The doubtful tag is never a good sign and it appears to have foreshadowed the absence of Higgins this week. With Higgins on the sidelines, Ja'Marr Chase will be tasked with operating as Cincinnati's clear No. 1 receiver. Chase has 155 yards and a pair of scores through two weeks and should be up to the task of extra targets versus Pittsburgh. He projects to be a high-end WR2 sans Higgins, who will look to return for the Bengals' Week 4 matchup with the Jaguars.

Tee Higgins (shoulder) was sidelined at Bengals practice on Tuesday.

Higgins did not play in Week 3 due to a shoulder injury he suffered in the previous game, and now Cincinnati has a short week before playing the Jaguars on Thursday. His DNP status today certainly doesn't bode well for his prospects of playing in Week 4, so make sure you have a contingency plan ready for your fantasy squads. Ja'Marr Chase and Tyler Boyd would see an increased role once again if Higgins can't go.

I hope this doesn’t turn out like Mixon last year where every week his status was up in the air and then he’d get ruled out on game day.  Weeks later they put him on IR when they could have done so much earlier.

I think this week was understandable with the short week. If he’s not playing next week, then there’s reason for concern.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that Bengals WR Tee Higgins (shoulder) may have had an outside chance of playing against the Jaguars if the game were on Sunday, and he plans to sit to get healthy for Week 5.

That's a nice signpost for Higgins' Week 5 status, at least. The shoulder injury has cost two games for Higgins thus far, and it will be good news for the Bengals if they're able to limit it to just those two games rather than baiting aspiring Auden Tate DFS fanatics. Cincinnati has Green Bay in Week 5. Higgins had 118 yards and two scores on ten catches in his first two games of the season.

Tee Higgins (shoulder) returned to practice Wednesday, getting in a limited session.

Higgins went down in Week 2 but is expected back this week against the Packers after missing the last two games. He'll slide back into WR3 duties flanking Ja'Marr Chase with Tyler Boyd in the slot.

Oct 6, 2021, 4:33 PM ET

Tee Higgins (shoulder) remained limited during Thursday's practice.

It's a good sign for his recovery that there were no setbacks after returning to practice on Wednesday. Higgins remains on the optimistic side of questionable. He should be in for a good chunk of work if he suits up between the likely absence of Joe Mixon (ankle), as well as Jaire Alexander (shoulder) also looking doubtful for the Packers.

Oct 7, 2021, 4:34 PM ET

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said Tee Higgins (shoulder) will play in Week 5 against the Packers.

Higgins "looks great," per Taylor, after a week of limited practices. Higgins has missed the team's past two games after catching 10 of 15 targets for 118 yards and two touchdowns in the season's first couple weeks. Fantasy managers can confidently deploy Higgins this week against a banged-up Packers secondary. He should be regarded as a low-end WR2 in a highly-condensed Bengals passing attack.

I know this week is post-injury so I wasn't expecting much, but the way Chase is playing and Burrow's clear love for him, the supposed 1A/1B situation might be more like a classic WR1 and WR2 hierarchy. Chase just looks like pure stud machine. If you ever wanted to try to snag Higgins in dynasty, as a guy rostering him, I can tell you as of today I'm listening.

In for a share in my main.  Needed a WR2/3 and it only cost me Cousins to a team that was long on WRs.  Pasting a few encouraging notes below.  Lets go!!

Tee Higgins is a great buy-low right now.

✴ 27.39% target share (1st, CIN)
✴ 38.46% redzone TGT share (1st, CIN)
✴ 11.8 Exp. PTS/G (T-21st, WR)
✴ 15 Targets at BAL last week
✴ Faces Jets (28th in pass DVOA)
✴ Forgotten man with Chase balling

Buy Higgins in redraft.

Tee Higgins just saw 15 targets against BAL & is currently pacing for 137 targets/16 games – an average of 8.6 targets per-game.

8.6 targets per-game would’ve placed him 12th in the entire NFL last year.

Don’t panic. His time is coming.

⁦‪@LateRoundQB⁩

Tee Higgins saw 41.7% of Cincinnati's targets today. He's now seen 43 targets in his five games played. In those same games, Ja'Marr Chase has seen 37 targets. Tyler Boyd has seen 28.

10/24/21, 6:55 PM

I was pleasantly surprised to see him fed so much. He missed some catches due to tight coverage or he would have had an even better day.

Higgins and Chase are the new dynamic duo and as soon as Defenses roll their coverage to stop Chase, I think you will see Higgins explode and not just 1 game but go on a streak. Those who are fans of Higgins spotted him as a Top 20 WR last year, he's still ascending IMHO. He has a big arm big gun QB, a talented WR opposite him, decent back up WRs on this roster all help tale pressure off him.

10/135/TD, it's coming sooner or later. I would not be in a hurry to get him off your roster, agree he might be a great buy low right now

Burrow finding his TE for two scores and 100+ yards has been a bit disappointing, but the Defenses can't cover everyone.

Week 8 Fantasy Football Stats: Chargers' run D holding Justin Herbert back?

Excerpt:

Tee Higgins is averaging 9.3 targets per game the last three weeks

If you thought “just Tee Higgins?” to the tweet above you’re only looking at results.

The usage for Higgins is there. Just because he’s clearly not as good as Ja’Marr Chase — who looks like a top-10 real-life receiver already — doesn’t mean he isn’t a strong starter.

Higgins has ceded vertical targets to the rookie. He’s averaging 94 air yards per game over the last three contests. That said, the overall passing volume shooting up will help sustain Higgins. The Bengals are up to 13th in neutral passing rate from Weeks 5 to 7 after being extremely run-heavy to start the season. Higgins is a fine buy-low.
