WR Tee Higgins, CIN (1 Viewer)

Earlier this year for a rebuild I dealt Mahomes and Tyreek for both Chase and Higgins. 1 QB, but it was still hard to give up those paired week winners. Couldn’t be happier now, it’ll be much easier to replace Mahomes when I decide to come out of the rebuild and go all-in.
I am not sure if that is a move I would make because Chase and Higgins will limit each other game to game.  They are both worth starting but given a choice I would like to diversify a bit.   I get that Hill and Mahomes are also tied but they don't limit the upside...they add to it (albeit they also lower the floor).

I don't mind moving Mahomes and Tyreek for younger WR's but would have liked something more of Jefferson and Chase/Higgins rather than both Chase & Higgins.

At the time I made the deal it was riskier than it would be now, this was a couple months ago, and I’d never have gotten JJ as one of the two WRs (then or now), but I get your meaning.

The beauty is that I can easily raise my weekly ceiling if I want by moving either one for a similar young WR (that isn’t on the Bengals) this offseason, if I decide to. Both are great players with a great young QB and have a pretty nice weekly floor even if it’s unlikely both go off at the same time, so it’s not the worst position to be in until I flip one. For me it was more about insulating all that value by investing it in two young guys that others would value as potential WR1’s for a while. As long as they hold all that value I don’t care that they’re on the same team until I decide to enter a competitive window. That may be this coming year, I try to only do 1-2 year retool/rebuilds.

I would say you would be correct if they are on different teams.  However I think the diminish each other's value somewhat but that is regardless if you had both or not.  Its just that both are on the same team (NFL not FF) diminishes both their values somewhat.  But maybe that is partially why you could get both.

I don't mind getting rid of a QB in a 1 QB league but I would have looked to diversify.

Right, I agree in the long term. My point was that by being right about how good they both are (not difficult I admit), I now can diversify any time this offseason as they are both worth a lot more than when I dealt for them. When I made the deal Chase was spooking people with all his training camp drops while somehow simultaneously Higgins was the forgotten man bc of Chase. I can use either of their new, higher value to flip for someone and diversify outside the Bengals O if I want. Whereas at the time I don’t think I was getting JJ+Higgins or Chase+AJB or something, if that makes sense.

Tee Higgins caught 6-of-10 targets for 103 yards in the Bengals' AFC Championship Game victory over the Chiefs.

Quiet in the Wild Card Round, Higgins now has 13 grabs for 199 yards over his past two games as the Bengals have advanced to their first Super Bowl since the 1988-89 season. With defenses understandably rolling increasingly sophisticated coverages — and raw manpower — Ja'Marr Chase's way, Higgins will remain an X-factor for Super Bowl LVI no matter who the Bengals face. Regardless of whether it is Los Angeles or San Francisco, it figures to be more methodical game script than what was forecast for the AFC Championship Game.

Tee Higgins caught 4-of-7 targets for 100 yards and two touchdowns in the Bengals' Super Bowl LVI loss to the Rams.

Higgins' 75-yard touchdown in the third quarter was the biggest play of the night. He got away with a blatant facemask on Jalen Ramsey in the process, but we digress. Overshadowed by No. 5 overall pick Ja’Marr Chase for much of the season’s first half, Higgins entered Week 12 with only 446 yards in eight games after missing two contests with a shoulder issue. Then he went bonkers for the stretch run, averaging 108 yards over his final six contests and scoring four times as the Bengals won the AFC North. Higgins’ 2021 usage was inconsistent as Chase proved to be an immediate superstar — Higgins had only four double-digit target efforts all year — but he posted 1,091 yards in 14 games and proved he would be a No. 1 wideout on almost any other team. A dangerous running mate for the generational Chase, Higgins should take full advantage of the attention Chase will command in 2022 to soak up fantasy profitable outside looks and post big numbers. Having just turned 23, Higgins will be in the low-end WR1 mix as Chase challenges for No. 1 overall status.

So next year 93 receptions for 1600 yards with 10 TDs?

:pickle:
Is Boyd likely to return to this receiving core?   That has to be another 5-7% kicker if there's an inferior 3rd WR.    Am I right?  🙂

He seems to have attained low-end WR1 startup status going into next season.   I went in to his rookie draft thinking that I wasn't a fan, only to find out that my entire league was even less of a fan, somehow letting him slip to me in the 4th round.   Couldn't be more thrilled for me and the rest of my league to be this wrong.   As I recall, a lot of credit goes to MFL having him buried in their rankings for no apparent reason.   Anyone else get him at a ridiculous value that way?

Not quite, but still a decent value. I dealt Mahomes for 2x 1sts (2022. 2023), a 2023 2nd, Tee Higgins, Zach Wilson & CEH.

I've since dealt away CEH for another 2023 1st.

I initially asked for Metcalf, but the owner balked, and countered with Higgins & the 2023 2nd.

When Chase was drafted, many predicted doom & gloom for Higgins. Seems more like a WR1B to Chase's 1A.  Obviously I'd rather have Chase, but Higgins at 23 is still a very, very promising young WR.

Feels like the Bengals will have a really nice 1-2 punch at WR for some time.

I love looking at stuff like this retrospectively. He nailed Higgins IMO. Maybe not the top guy but still he was much higher on him then most. And his defense for his opinion was great.

But then I look at his entire list(s) and, man, Justin Jefferson is such a huge miss it's tough to know what to think about his rankings going forward.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that Bengals WR Tee Higgins had his labrum repaired last month.

Higgins was spotted in a sling at the Cincinnati Reds home opener. It's probably nothing to be too concerned about based on the description, and Pelissero adds that Higgins is expected to "be ready well before training camp." The third-year receiver will be in the low-end WR1 mix in 2022 fantasy drafts assuming no setbacks occur.

Chris Simms rankings

1. CeeDee Lamb, Oklahoma

2.Justin Jefferson, LSU

3.Henry Ruggs III, Alabama

4.KJ Hamler, Penn State

5.Tee Higgins, Clemson

If not for injury, Hamler would've been better.

>>No. 5: Tee Higgins, Clemson

Simms: “He’s a giant. I would say this is Plaxico Burress almost. He can be that type of player. He’s got great, ‘long’ speed, he’s got very good strength, he runs through arm tackles…But the biggest thing more than anything is – yes, I see room for improvement in terms of route running – but the size and ability to catch 50-50 balls is as good as anybody in the class…If he has a chance to get his hands on it, he’s going to catch the ball and that’s where I really like Tee Higgins’ value. I think his game is really going to translate to the NFL in that way.”<<

Coach Zac Taylor expects Tee Higgins (shoulder) to miss the entirety of offseason workouts.

Higgins had surgery to repair his torn labrum following the Super Bowl and was spotted in a sling earlier this month. Labrum surgeries present lengthy, months-long recoveries, so we shouldn't expect to see Higgins doing anything on the football field until some time during training camp. Overall, it shouldn't affect his outlook for Week 1, but it's a rehab to keep an eye on this summer.

Labrum surgery
As someone who’s had this surgery, I don’t expect him to do much until training camp. They’re being a little dramatic in their description, but this is an extremely low-risk operation. Especially for a WR. If we were talking about a QB’s throwing arm, there might be cause for concern, but I’m not at all worried about Higgins recovery.

Wow. Nothing on this guy who is going in the 3rd round for ADP (0.5PPR). I have him in Dynasty, and happy about that, but I'm really struggling to justify the 3rd round price. He's going before the likes of Pittman, DJM and McLaurin.

How do you feel about his ADP? High/Correct/Low?

I love him, and the entire Bengals offense. I took Chase in the 1st, and Higgins in the 3rd in a startup PPR Best Ball SF league last month. I also took Hurst late. Burrow is going to be an amazing QB for a long time, so I want as much of this offense as I can get. :)

I'd take him ahead of all 3 of those guys.

I think his ADP is fair. I think low-end WR1 numbers are very doable. He quietly averaged more catches and targets per game than Chase did last year. If Higgins doesn't miss 3 games last year, he was on pace for 90-1325-7.

You'd be wrong to do so.
Why do you think so?

Higgins is on a much better offense than any of those guys, he's got a much better QB than any of those guys, and he was more productive than any of those guys last year (on a PPG basis)

I think last year might have been close to Higgins floor. The Bengals improved their OL, and likely will rely on Burrow more and more going forward.

I like both Pittman and Moore, but I can't see those offenses offering enough scoring potential to have them on Higgins level. In Pittman's case, I'd also argue he's not as talented as Higgins is either. I like Pittman, but I think he's more of a possession WR, where as I think Higgins can do it all, and would be a #1 on most teams, he's just on a team with a potential all-pro.

McLaurin is a big step behind all 3 in my opinion. As a player he may not be, but I don't see anything about his situation that makes me see him as anything more than a low-end WR2. Carson Wentz is a QB upgrade, which is sad to say, but this isn't likely to be a good offense, they aren't about to become pass first, and McLaurin likely isn't going to be seeing a target spike, with Dotson and Samuel(who is essentially a new addition) being added to the mix.

Truth be told I think Higgins is closer to Chase than he is to McLaurin, and possibly even Moore if Mayfield's descent wasn't just from playing hurt last year.

I have Pittman slightly ahead of Higgins just because he's the 1 on the team and has a chance to be top 10 in targets this year. I do have Higgins ahead of Moore and McLaurin though. I love the talent of those players but I want to attach my early round picks to high scoring offenses. Washington and Carolina worry me way too much.

Speaking Wednesday, Bengals HC Zac Taylor told reporters that WR Tee Higgins (shoulder) has "been doing the one-on-ones. He’ll do seven-on-sevens going forward."

Higgins underwent offseason shoulder surgery, but he appears fully on track for Week 1. Taylor noted, "On the physical part of things, he’s ready. I know he feels great. I know he’s ready to go, and trust me, he tells me every day... I think that he feels really good, and man, he’s really attacked that rehab the right way and looks really good." Higgins appeared to be on track for training camp, based on his initial rehab schedule; it's still great to see that he's ramping up his participation in practice with the season fast approaching. Even with elite target competition for Ja'Marr Chase, Higgins profiles as a value on the 2/3 turn in fantasy drafts.

Tee Higgins (concussion) will not return in Week 1 against the Steelers.

Higgins was hit hard over the middle after securing a short pass from Joe Burrow. He exited the game immediately and was evaluated in the medical tent before leaving for the locker room. Higgins is now highly uncertain to play against the Cowboys in Week 2. His absence should create more targets for Tyler Boyd and Hayden Hurst, but neither will be able to replace Higgins' downfield ability. Targets could condense further to Ja'Marr Chase for as long as Higgins is out.

Tee Higgins missed Bengals practice for personal reasons on Thursday.

The curveball comes after Higgins managed to get in a "limited" session on Wednesday as he works his way through the concussion protocol. That put Higgins on track to suit up against the Cowboys, though we could not take his status for granted even before today's DNP. With Higgins away for personal reasons, it is pointless to speculate about his Week 2 status. We can only wait for further reports or Friday's injury report. Tyler Boyd and Hayden Hurst are the next men up from a targets perspective if Higgins is out.

I saw it was for the burial of his Father today.
Yeah - just came to post that. RIP his dad.

As for FF, so long as he clears concussion protocol I’m not too concerned, though players take losses like this differently. It is possible he misses the game mourning, though I’d be a little surprised. Most athletes go out and play out if their minds to honor their lost loved one.

Brett Farve sure did

Indeed he did.

Tee Higgins (personal) practiced Friday.

Higgins, who suffered a concussion in Week 1 against the Steelers, logged a limited practice before missing Thursday's session for personal reasons. His return to Friday's practice is a good sign he'll be a full go this week against the Cowboys. Before he exited the Bengals' Week 1 loss to the Steelers, Higgins caught both of his targets for 27 yards. He's a fine WR2 option against the Cowboys.

@Joe Bryant - Tee Higgins seems to be left off the list of WRs in today’s rankings email.

He practiced Friday. Is there something else we should know about? Assuming he clears concussion protocol, he’s probably still better than Racey McMath who checks in at 159. :oldunsure:

Also, not for nothin; Racey McMath sounds like the hero in an oddly compelling scholastic book evangelizing using the power of mathematics to fight for equality, and I refuse to believe that’s a real person. Man, y’all really do go deep in these rankings!

No, he's been updated. https://www.footballguys.com/projections/inseason?pos=wr&who=996&profile=p&week=2

I hate the email rankings as they obviously can't be updated. Inevitably, there's news between the time we put together and mail and then we look bad. Please always use the website for everything.

Ah, yes that makes sense.

Mostly I wanted to make a Racey McMath joke, but I do appreciate the insight.

I feel for the young man. The feeling of absence caused by the loss of a parent is something I cannot even begin to comprehend. Godspeed, Tee.
My parents just hit 80. I’m bracing myself. I often see athletes play in the wake of such an event and I’m always amazed that they’re able to do so.

I’ve read that quite often the parent is heavily involved in their football careers since peewee leagues, so there’s an “hindering” aspect to it, and also likely it’s a distraction / normalcy.

Tough time for sure though.

Not to be confused with a racy math joke, like the pickup line: "I wish I were your derivative, so I could be tangent to your curves."

Talk nerdy to me, baby.

What are you all looking at here for production? He’s 4pm games… if he’s a late scratch, I’m Pierce on Texans or Herbert on Bears. If I just scrape him, I’ve got Bateman on the Ravens.

He’s clearly the top of that heap of my guys listed if healthy, but I’m skeptical.
He's back to starting in my two lineups. He's good to go. He's a top end WR #2 this week. Now, Boyd could take a lil away, who knows. Higgins is the cream of the crop vs. those other guys. He passed the concussion protocol and had a personal day because his father passed. Will his mind be in it? Often others play well because they feel they are honoring a loved one. We'll see.

Yea I'm starting him in a Flex with Melvin Gordon as a fallback if Higgins gets a late scratch. I think he will have a good game today..
