Yeah, and I love Tracy.

Even if I have questions about his size, the fact that they are scheming him up is promising. 5 or 6 touches he gets might be higher value than other WRs.

And I'm going to assume this is how it's gonna be for him to be helpful, cause we need to assume Nix isn't going to be Johnny Downfield Passer until he shows us otherwise.

Which he still could, I don't rule that out

I feel like if you drop tracy theres a chance it comes back to hurt you.

Can you package for a wr upgrade then waiver Franklin for the open spot?

Interesting to see this come up as I traded Tracy for Franklin in dynasty last night.
Got killed on value relative to draft position but that's dead and gone anyway.

KTC had it basically dead even, and I'm bullish on Franklin atm like much of this thread. Wanted to diversify from Tracy as I think NYG will be funneling more touches Skat's way sooner than later.

Agreed. And I also rationalized it this way - I own them both in a different league and right now, I'd gladly take a 2nd rounder for Tracy...there's no chance I would trade away Franklin for a 2nd.

It feels as though much like Franklin slipped in the NFL draft, he slipped much too late this summer in both start ups (he went in the 19th of the league I just traded for him in) and redrafts (WR88 behind damn near every rookie wr!)
 
Considering dumping Devonta Smith to pick him up, a guy averaging 4-5 targets through the first couple of weeks for one getting much more volume
 
Lots of jinxing on this board of late with premature proclimations of victorious calls on players. Hopefully Franklin won't be the next Key Coleman. I for sure need a couple more games in a row of 6-8+ targets before I'm ready to declare anything about this situation. For all we know, Sean Payton could have been playing matchup games last week, which can change in a beat as defenses adjust to prior game film.

All that temperance aside, choo choo if Payton is going to use Franklin as his vaunted joker. Most of us denied Colston's emergence (I scooped him after week 1, as I've done here, just in case) until it was undeniable. Puka too. So many others three. Sometimes it's more a matter of grab and hold and see what happens - obviously that depends on opportunity cost involved so mileage varies.

The biggest obstacles to a consistent 6-8+ targets for Franklin IMO will likely be Engram and the Broncos running game.

Engram's anemic usage thus far has been injury-driven (calf, back) and not performance-driven, and so others have had to pick up the slack. Engram is out again this Sunday, however, and as long as his nagging injuries continue 6-8 targets for Franklin should be doable.

As far as the Broncos' running game, with the acquisition of Dobbins/Harvey it is clearly going to be a weekly priority. And if it continues to improve, then that will likely cap Nix in the 30-35 range for per game attempts

Sutton will suck up 7-9 of those on a weekly basis, and personally I don't see enough talent/role/size separation between Franklin and the other mouths at the trough (i.e. Mims, Bryant, TE room and RB room) for Franklin to consistently garner 6-8+ targets on a weekly basis with a coach notorious for spreading the ball around. JMO
 
Mims will be the leader in targets n points next week ,then it's Franklins turn. Following week it will be Sutton..
Hard to trust which week a Denver receiver will be featured.
 
for anyone watching yesterday...i see 10 targets for 3 for 19 and a TD. were these Trevor Lawrence type "targets" or is he struggling?

Troy Franklin's development so far this season has been arguably the most enjoyable aspect of the team. Went from being an incredibly boom or bust piece to one of the more reliable weapons on the offense.

The two deflected touchdowns on back-to-back drives in the fourth quarter of the Broncos-Giants game are even more ridiculous from the end zone angle. That's an absolutely incredible catch by Troy Franklin.

3-18 with a crazy ricochet TD catch. Lol.

Every week there are soooo many reasons it would seem to start this guy for matchup reasons. Doesn't seem to pan out. It's Sutton or bust and then here and there either Franklin or Mims will get a big play that is impossible to predict.

Franklin through Week 8 has converted a measly 26 percent of his air yards into actual, edible yards. Only four receivers had a lower conversion rate. He enters this week with the tenth most air yards in the entire NFL. Franklin, running basically all the routes in a balanced Denver offense, could continue seeing positive regression in Week 9 against the Texans. It might matter for Franklin and the other Broncos pass catchers that the team ranks as the seventh pass-heaviest offense inside the ten yard line.

Houston has only allowed 3 TDs to WRs and 6 passing TDs total. I might let him marinate one more week.

It appears Sutton is the big play guy or does more with his receptions than Franklin. Targets/Receptions are almost exact, yet Sutton has almost 200 more yards. As a Franklin owner, I can only hope. But not buying it just yet.
 
One thing that is not easily seen in Troy Franklin's stats is the fact that he now has three two-point conversions on the year, which is effectively another receiving TD. He seems to be the primary target on two point conversion attempts and it also illustrates how Denver favors him at the goal line.
 
Love the kid. He was raw coming in and knew it would take some time to develop. Ahead of schedule IMO. Was able to pick him up in 3 FFPC dynasty leagues and have him on all 5 of my dynasty teams. Feeling pretty good about it.

How’s that working out for them? Nix not exactly firing on all cylinders
 
The King of Unrealized Air Yards... Nix just be chucking 35/40/25 balls up there and expecting this dude (who doesn't have great deep ball awareness) to pull off miracles.
 
As long as he keeps getting the targets, especially in the red zone, he's a great find in a year of crazy WR injuries and busts. I wish some of those deep shots would hit, then he'd really be something.

Not sure about that. Nix and Franklin played together in college, so I think Nix will still look for him often.

Targets the last 5 weeks have been:

Franklin 10-8-10-9-8
Sutton 10-6-6-4-8

Mims had no targets in his first game back yesterday, so he is likely to be the odd man out if Bryant comes on and consistently gets more targets.

Denver started the season with Courtland Sutton as their X receiver, Franklin as their second receiver, and Mims and Pat Bryant fighting for snaps in three-receiver sets. Sean Payton likes to have a run-blocking wide receiver, but Trent Sherfield Sr. fell out of favor with the team. He was released, and the team brought back their run-blocking wide receiver from last season, Lil’Jordan Humphrey.


Franklin seemed to be making a case for the top wide receiver spot in Denver, finishing with eight targets in five consecutive games from mid-October to mid-November. However, Bo Nix and Franklin weren’t able to connect on several of his targets, and he was held to 40 receiving yards or fewer in three of those five games. He gained 84 receiving yards in Week 11 against the Kansas City Chiefs, but Bryant also had his best game of the season against Kansas City.


Denver used the Week 12 bye to tinker with its wide receiver rotation, leading Bryant to play the second-most snaps in Week 13, while Franklin rotated with Bryant. This week, the situation became much worse because Denver had 27 plays in single-receiver sets. Humphrey was on the field for 17 of these plays, while Bryant and Sutton split the rest. Franklin played slightly more than Mims in 11 personnel, but Mims played more than Franklin in 12 personnel. This left Franklin playing only 19 snaps in this game.


He caught three passes for 11 yards, while Bryant caught four passes for 32 yards. Franklin is a player to drop in most leagues after his reduced role, while Bryant is an intriguing waiver-wire option.

Excuse me? 19-74 snaps (26%)? He ran less routes that *check notes* Adam Trautman? He played less snaps than Bryant, Mims, and fricking Lil'Jordan Humphrey?

Nope, can't spin this into a hold because there just are no silver linings to discover here; he's not even getting the air yards now and this has happened for two straight weeks after the Bye. Franklin is a drop in Redraft.

Bryant is not a better wr than Franklin, nor vice versa

Targets in this offense are all about Sean Payton's alchemical game planning, then Nix reading through the corresponding progressions during the plays.

Predicting FF value for anyone other than Harvey or Sutton ROS is a fool's errand
