they dumped Rasheed and Cooks so he could play full time think he could be a sleeper for rest of season at minimum a flex

I would be in 100% agreement.

I've rewatched the second half of that game twice now, where he had all of his production, and while he's never going to wow people with speed or athleticism I think if he draft pedigree and age were not on people's minds they'd be a lot higher on him. The dude was making legit big time clutch catches, one after another, this was not some PPR scam.

I really don't think I'm scouting the helmet when I say he reminds me of Colston and I can't help but wonder if Payton and Loomis saw the same thing. Actually heard someone describe him the other day as Target brand Colston and I'm not sure that's fair. He just has Shough instead of Brees throwing to him so if can't achieve the same production does not mean he's that or any part inferior.

The thing I like to see in his tape is he was running routes at all levels of the field: short, intermediate and deep. He was hitting slants, curls, posts and crossers. He was getting medicine balls and still holding onto the ball. You look at the target share and he may have surpassed Juwan Johnson as the #2 target for Shough.

Devaughn Vele has his best career game: The second-year receiver caught eight passes for 93 yards and a touchdown.

The Saints started the season with Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed and Brandin Cooks as their top three receivers. They traded for Vele shortly before the season from the Denver Broncos after Troy Franklin emerged as a top receiver. Vele started to see an increased role in Week 3, but an injury cut into his momentum.


His playing time has drastically increased over the last three games after Shaheed was traded to the Seattle Seahawks and Cooks was released. This has left Vele as the clear second option at wide receiver. Mason Tipton has become their third receiver, and Kevin Austin Jr. has become the top backup. The Saints activated wide receiver Dante Pettis from the practice squad for this game on Saturday to be their fifth receiver.


The Saints needed Vele more this week than in the past because Olave has been dealing with a back injury. He was limited in practice on Wednesday, downgraded to not practicing on Thursday and limited in practice again on Friday. He was initially ruled questionable but was ultimately active. Olave’s playing time was normal, and he caught four passes for 47 yards and a touchdown.


Vele’s playing time will likely remain high over the rest of the season. His target rate might not be as high going forward if Olave can recover, but there is also a chance Olave gets shut down if the injury lingers on. The Saints were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs after this loss. The Saints have favorable matchups this upcoming week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and in the fantasy championship round against the Tennessee Titans. Vele could have another two strong games this season, if not more.

If you read my last post, I absolutely want all shares of Vele on my team in the Fantasy playoffs. I would drop the aforementioned Troy Franklin for him.

Devaughn Vele caught 3-of-5 targets for 40 yards in the Saints’ Week 14 win over the Bucs.

Vele’s 40 yards were a far cry from his shocking Week 13 total of 93, but he actually led the team as Tyler Shough attempted only 20 passes in rainy conditions. One of Vele’s grabs was a huge late third-down conversion. Having now easily consolidated Rashid Shaheed’s vacated targets in this high-attempts offense, Vele is displaying some WR4 juice. It’s just so hard to tiebreak in favor of a Saint with bye weeks over and the fantasy playoffs beginning. Despite an improving Shough, this remains a below-average fantasy environment.

Though it was a disappointing statline in a ok spot, in the 4th quarter late when it was 3rd down, he was getting the important targets. Also, he relegated Juwan Johnson to dumpoff blanket for Shough for the 2nd straight game. Shough won't run for 2 TDs all the time and a really low amount of passing attempts.

Even in monsoon conditions Vele got targets and production on only 20 passes.

We haven't seen sh*t from Pearsall since he came back. I'd like to hold him in the hopes he first shows something this week, cross fingers I win, and then use him in the semis.
