xbox one vs ps4 (1 Viewer)

For the first time Microsoft has removed hardware sales from its quarterly fiscal reports.

In other words, Microsoft is done pretending like it’s going to catch PS4, and wants to avoid quarterly headlines reinforcing the fact that the Xbox One is always so far behind...we only got a note that hardware revenue is down year over year
Sales of the Xbone are so embarrassing they won't disclose them to their shareholders.

YOY sales are up for them, and ahead of the 360 during the same time in its life. Yeah, it's not doing PS4 sales, but it's no slouch. Certainly not embarassing...

Interesting. I thought I read somewhere that the Xbox is still Microsoft's best selling product.

I'm pretty sure it's the only hardware sold by Microsoft that's commercially successful. Like Jobber said, it's getting outsold by the PS4, but it's doing fine.

Is the Sony network still vulnerable to long outages via DDOS? The hardware might be better, but I'll take M$ network over Sony's until it's been proven they have shored everything up. Their downtimes have been lengthy in the past.

Any ps4 users want to weigh in? Might pick one up over the holidays if their network has improved, we have 2 xbox ones in the house but I'm definitely not opposed to switching.

The last outage I experienced more than a few minutes was last Christmas on PSN.

PSN and XBL are practically identical at this point. Last year XBL and PSN had roughly the same amount of outages. Most outages are a matter of hours and the PSN outages tend to be longer than than the average XBL outage which is to be expected with PSN hosting twice as many users. PSN is 10 bucks cheaper and has a hit tv show.

This is a pretty accurate breakdown of the services from Tech Times

:lmao:

Oh come on, a hit series??

And also, I've never met a single person who's paid full price for Xbox Live. I personally have never paid more than $38 for a year. I rarely see PS Plus go on sale, and certainly never below $40.

That being said, Loan Sharks is absolutely right about PSN vs XBL in terms of service. Both are very stable platforms at this point.

How is this, 38 bucks for a year of XBL?

$30.99 right now on the front page of slickdeals.

 That's what is says in the article. And I have never watched powers so I don't know if it is good but I can tell you this. It is the only original series that I can name on either platform.

IIRC xbl currently has 2 shows and is adding 4-5 more over the next year.

Want to buy either a XB1 or PS4 for my 9 year old son. He has played on both the 360 and PS3. Any real difference between the 2 systems? Like the backwards compatibility of the XB1

I'm looking at maybe training in my 360 and PS3 for one of these. GameStop will give you $100 for each system towards either one.

I don't at as much as I used to though. What are the pluses and minuses now that there's been time to use them?

I'm looking into this as well. My middle son now wants a PS4 and we already have a 360 and a Wii U. I'd be more than willing to trade in the 360 and games, but I'd like to see if the PS4 is really worth it. I know they play the Wii U a decent amount, so if the 360 has finally lost its luster, I'd be fine getting rid of it. He and his 2 brothers aren't hard core gamers at all, so losing the 360 probably wouldn't matter.

I know the PS4 is outpacing the XB1 in sales. And I used to use my PS3 more than my XBox360.

But now I find myself using the XB1 more than the PS4. I like my PS4 for the Uncharted exclusivity, but the XB1 will soon have backwards compatability and I have the device that allows you to use the XB1 to get OTA television. And it'll soon have DVR capability.

If I had to pick ONE, I think it'd be the XB1.

Ignoring the DVR compatibility, what about game play only? We have Dish hopper already on that TV, so the whole home DVR is already there and we have Netflix on that TV already as well. My kids don't play the Xbox 360 as much, so no backwards compatibility might be OK as I'm likely trading in the games/console to make the PS4/XB1 cheaper. I'd keep them with the XB1, but most of the time they spend playing it is usually with new games. Once they've run the course with the games on the 360, they don't go back as much. That's where the Wii U is nice, most of the games they like, they play over and over like Smashbrothers or Mario Kart.

When does the backwards compatibility kick in?
Update Nov. 12th.

My kid loves driving games, so I grabbed the free 360 Dirt3 in the hopes that it will work out of the gate once the backwards stuff kicks in.
Nice. I may need to get the kids one for Christmas. The lack of BC kept me from getting one in the beginning.

Every Games With Gold release on the 360 from this month forward is backward compatible on the Xbox One. So don't slack on your free 360 game downloads.

I couldn't figure out how to access 360 games right now on the Xbone, so grabbed it through the website. Hopefully it shows up.

I will say that the kid won't get much time on it - I'm going to be hogging the thing with Fallout 4 for a bit.

Probably going to pick up both over the next couple of months.

I hate that PS4 doesn't have back compatibility. I'm one of those people who will keep replaying games that I liked. And even there, I know Microsoft won't port all the games I like as they didn't with the 360 and original XBox. So I'm probably going to end up having to keep my PS3 and Xbox 360 around rather than trade them in. :(

So is the better move so far for Xbox and solid state drives finding a good price Xbox One and adding an external SSD, rather than going for the newer one with the hybrid drive? Have heard SSDs don't help PS4 performance enough to be worth it.

Backwards compatibility is only available to preview members right now. It releases for everyone on Nov 12th I believe. As long as you've digitally purchased the game (even if the price was free with gold) you'll have access to it then if it's one of the games they're making available for BC.

Pretty much the same story on the XB1. Small improvement going from a 5400rpm drive to 7200rpm, and even smaller going from 7200rpm to SSD.

At this point the differences are pretty minor. Here is a list of the games if there are certain exclusives that are must haves go that way.

PS4 - slight graphics edge, smaller, more games released or in development 810, 90 exclusive.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_4_games

Xbox - better app functionality, backwards compatible coming, pass through hdmi. Games released or in development 495, 40 exclusive. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_One_games
List of current PS4 exclusives.

List of current Xbox One exclusives.

Not seeing any that make either system a must-have.

I saw some stats for using an external SSD with Xbox and his games loaded from 25-65% faster depending on the game. Sounded like a big improvement.

The stats for the hybrid drive version Microsoft is coming out with were around 20% faster if I remember right from one of the online gaming sites who reviewed it.

Microsoft really dropped the ball on the release of the Xbox 1. They've since backtracked on the 2 things that really bothered me; the "have to be connected to play" and now the backward compatibility issue. If they'd have had these from the start, this Xbox 360 owner would have bought an Xbox One day one. Instead I went a different route, and unless they come up with something completely groundbreaking with their next console I really see no reason to ever go back to Xbox.

That was the most unbiased post loan sharks has made in 10 years. I almost praised him for it.

Almost.

People that waited a year and get both systems for the price of a single day one system. Don't think I'll ever buy a system on day one unless it's something like Fallout 5 that I can't wait for.

Sorry for asking this here as it's only an xbox 360, but is this a good deal for my 7 yr old son?:

Xbox 360 20GB Refurbished Blast from the Past System Bundle, includes:

Red Dead Redemption, Dead Island, Halo Reach, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, one controller and a 20GB external hd. Pre-owned. Sold through GameStop. $69.99.

So far he only has experience playing video games on a Wii, iPhone and iPad.

I'm pretty permissive, but none of those games is at all appropriate for a 7 year old. (If they're for you, different story of course).

It's not as good as free but it's close.

Check Craigslist in your area first. In order to system link COD for my son's birthday party I picked up an Xbox 360 Slim with 250GB hard drive, all the cables including the HDMI, and a wireless controller for $95.

A couple of things, make sure it's the slim version of the 360 because I think the earlier versions had red ring of death issues. Also 20GB will go fast unless you install a game, finish it, and remove it before you move on to the next. And as mentioned Red Dead Redemption is absolutely not for kids, I won't let my 10 year old play it. We also wouldn't let him get the Assassin's Creed games either.

Here's a 250gb slim for $75 with controller and headset games

I will try to go back and read this thread, but is there a concensus on which is better or typical fanboy vs fanboy stuff
