Nope, they're a business. If they can successfully corral people into their own proprietary music service, they'll probably do so. The more the PS4 pulls away from the XO in terms of quality and especially sales, the more Sony is going to tempted to nickel and dime people like this.Sony wouldn't do that! They are the people's champion!
Whats the big deal with downloading a game if you can still play it?Really gotta say that the more and more I hear about Playstation 4, the more I know it's not what I was hoping for. Recent weeks have swayed me over to leaning Xbox One, although I won't be buying at launch or for a while after (if at all).Sony finally came clean on a few things that they'd been mum on.
- No youtube uploads, at least at launch
- All games require install (but you can play during install)
- No external storage support (can still replace internal HDD)
- No DLNA support at all
- No music visualizer
- No more dynamic themes
- No .mp3 playback
Required installs are very mildly annoying because they eat up hard drive space. Lets say you have a 500 GB HD (I think that's what both consoles are shipping with -- not 100% sure). A lot of next-gen games seem to have installs approaching 50 GBs. That means that once you install 10 games -- really more like 9 because some of that HD space has to go to things like the OS and game saves -- you'll have to go back and delete stuff to make room. Not a big deal until you decide to go back and pick up an old game and have to re-install it and mess around with finding HD space.Whats the big deal with downloading a game if you can still play it?Really gotta say that the more and more I hear about Playstation 4, the more I know it's not what I was hoping for. For 32 months in a row Xbox outsold Sony in the US. It took a special bundle including the new GTA to dethrone them last month. I don't think it's at all clear there are significant differences in quality of the new consoles when we get to actual game play. And I don't think Sony is really killing MS sales wise. Especially given the fact that they are roughly neck and neck in pre-orders for the new consoles. Both are sitting around a million pre-orders right now.Nope, they're a business. Sales numbers at launch don't mean anything. Right now both firms are capacity-constrained and can literally sell as many consoles as they can produce.NCCommish said:For 32 months in a row Xbox outsold Sony in the US. Yeah I am glad there are two, the competition has been good for consumers as you point out. As I have said many times buy whichever one plays the games you want and rock on. My nit to pick is I have looked at the comparison videos and I don't see this huge pixel difference. I don't think the average user will either. I also don't see the huge sales difference in Sony's favor that you seem to take as a foregone conclusion in your post. Those were my issues.Sales numbers at launch don't mean anything. As for quality, that's been covered already. Xbox is spotting Playstation 50% more picture on BF (720 -> 900) and 125% more picture on COD (720 -> 1080). It's possible that that's just due to developers having a tougher time optimizing for the XO, in which case that gap may narrow or disappear down the road. Or it may be purely hardware-driven and it's going to be permanent, or somewhere in between. But it's still pretty amazing that there's that big a difference in terms of performance. To put it in perspective, the pixel game between the PS4 and XO on COD is actually larger than the gap between the PS360 and the Wii.
Whether that translates into sales or not, who knows. None of us should be rooting for one firm to completely pull away. If it wasn't for competition from Microsoft and XBL, PS Plus probably wouldn't exist. If it wasn't for competition from Sony, every XO title would probably come packaged with DRM. Unless you own stock in one company or the other, you should prefer two healthy competitors to a monopoly.
Neither console "wins", they'll both sell similar numbers over their lives just like last gen.been reading a ton about both of these consoles and some people in this thread are spinning things to fit their narrative. Both consoles will not support DNLA or MP3. sony want people to use their music player app and MS wants people to use thier music player app.
For those stating Xbox optimization will improve, that is true but dont forget PS4 is also going to get better so its not like only 1 of the 2 will improve.
Its way to early to call one or the other a winner. I have more to say but work beckons I'll add more in a bit.
You are supposed to be able to disable Kinect. With XB1, will I have to keep Kinect plugged in?
My Audio/Video setup is in a media closet down the hallway. I can't have some long cord running into the living room.
2 I believe, but both consoles will allow other users to use your Gold/PSN+ if the main account has it.So if you have 2 XBox/PS4's in the house do you have to pay 2 online fees? Or just 1?
The downloads isn't an issue I'm concerned with. The others are. Well, not dynamic themes or the music visualizer. I like to use custom soundtracks in games and I generally stream them from my PC. This is something XBox 360 and One can do.Bigboy10182000 said:Whats the big deal with downloading a game if you can still play it?SlaX said:Really gotta say that the more and more I hear about Playstation 4, the more I know it's not what I was hoping for. The bolded...what are they?
All? That's awesome, thanks for the heads up. I had intended on going 100% digital this generation, but I don't know if I can pass it up.Target is running a B2G1 free the week PS4 drops. This offer is on all games not just PS4.
CBOAT is not a developer, and he's frequently wrong, regardless of what some on Neogaf think. It's not the esram, it's that (I hear) it's a little harder to develop for and most devs haven't gotten used to it or the tools yet.to follow up my previous post. What I have been reading is the eSRAM on the xboxone is causing the display differences. The reason is its bottlenecking at that point. The CPU and GPU are not the reason the xbox is struggling right now, both CPU/GPU are on pretty even footing.
The biggest problem is the way things are rendered. I am not a tech person so I dont recall the exact name of the type of rendering, but a MS developer(CBOAT/Crazy buttocks on a train) has stated this will be a problem going forward. Forza will run at 1080p because it doesnt use this type of rendering maybe one of the tech guys in here will chime in.
I will look for some of the info I have read and post it when I do find it.
After reading just the last page, I have come to realize I have been under utilizing my PS3. I just put the game in and play. Maybe Ill watch netflix. I have no idea about any of the other stuff you guys are talking about
I agree with the cartoon
Well if you want to be technical then the developer kits that were sent out first for xbox were crap which is part of why they are harder to develop for since they have been rushed. The developer kits have been buggy and things have had to be redone and resubmitted for certification after new developer kits were sent out.CBOAT is not a developer, and he's frequently wrong, regardless of what some on Neogaf think. As for CBOAT he has been 100% correct about everything this generation. He may have been wrong in the past but he has nailed the always on DRM must have kinect etc.
PS you are correct hes not a developer he just works at MS and is an insider who may or may not know anything.
PSS what resolution is ryse running at native? Answer 900 upscaled to 1080p
how grown men can even have a narrative on this topic is funny.been reading a ton about both of these consoles and some people in this thread are spinning things to fit their narrative.
It doesn't have to be either/or. It's quite possible that Xbox One launch titles are being held back by both poor developer tools (which will clearly get better over time) and weaker hardware (which obviously won't). Honestly, I find it extremely difficult to imagine that the issue with COD is really hardware-related. That game isn't trying to push any graphical boundaries and it's hard to believe that the XO is actually incapable of running it at 1080/60. I understand Battlefield, but the disparity for COD just doesn't make any sense unless it's on the developer end.Well if you want to be technical then the developer kits that were sent out first for xbox were crap which is part of why they are harder to develop for since they have been rushed.
Regardless, the hands down best looking game at launch is RYSE on the Xbox One.
I agree I feel its a combination of things and its too early to really tell.It doesn't have to be either/or. The developer kits have been buggy and things have had to be redone and resubmitted for certification after new developer kits were sent out.CBOAT is not a developer, and he's frequently wrong, regardless of what some on Neogaf think.

Link to Xbox One not supporting MP3 or DLNA?been reading a ton about both of these consoles and some people in this thread are spinning things to fit their narrative.
It's not like you can't have both platforms. These things aren't like 10 grand. I ultimately plan to have both like last time. Worst case they are extremely expensive roku or BRD players part-time.how grown men can even have a narrative on this topic is funny.been reading a ton about both of these consoles and some people in this thread are spinning things to fit their narrative.
Seemed like he was agreeing with you. Might want to cut back on the caffeine.oh 1 release title is what they whole next gen is about right? what if the game play sucks? oh its the best looking...whatever The same applies to Sony also thats why graphics are not everything.Yep. And it looks better than any other 1080p native game on either console.Well if you want to be technical then the developer kits that were sent out first for xbox were crap which is part of why they are harder to develop for since they have been rushed. I am done with this topic I was providing unbiased unspun info since I dont work for MS or Sony. I have done some digging trying to figure out whats best for me and my family. Others seem to be SonyPonies or Xbots.
After rereading it yeah maybe I was a little harsh. I had been trying to do research and everything I was reading and finding was being spun one way or another. Its really frustrating when your trying to find real legit info and you have to cut through all the crap.Seemed like he was agreeing with you. Quickest most up to date link I could findLink to Xbox One not supporting MP3 or DLNA?been reading a ton about both of these consoles and some people in this thread are spinning things to fit their narrative. So it doesn't seem like there is going to be a way to simply import your music files, but you will be able to stream the content you already own,
----------------------------------------------------------
While Xbox One supports audio CD playback, it does not support CD ripping, a spokesperson said, a feature of the Xbox 360. It also doesn't support MP3 or AAC playback from devices like the iPod, iPhone, Zune or Windows Phone over USB.
Keep in mind that this is the sort of thing that can be patched in if people make a stink about it, as they should. There's just no excuse for consoles not supporting mp3 playback and media hubs. Those features were 100% standard last gen. Removing them is just a money-grab. (Both consoles).Too bad. I really would like to play mp3s right from the console. Not so sure about streaming from my pc. Hopefully they make it simple.
Could you please provide a link confirming this?I'm going from Xbox360 to PS4 because of one big reason, and that's backward compatability, or more specficially the lack thereof.
I have a ton of games that I bought on Live Arcade. These games will not port to XBox One.

I've spent hundreds of dollars on Live Arcade, and can't believe I won't be able to continue to play these games if I purchase an Xbox One.
Neither console features any kind of backwards compatibility, at least for now. This isn't anything nefarious on the part of either manufacturer. The Xbox One does not have the same architecture as the 360 did. Same for PS3 --> PS4. Current gen games would require a port to be able to run on next gen consoles.Could you please provide a link confirming this?I'm going from Xbox360 to PS4 because of one big reason, and that's backward compatability, or more specficially the lack thereof.

I really have a feeling those who buy their console at launch will get royally shafted by future "upgraded" versions.Sony just changed their PS4 FAQ on DLNA to add this *
Time to keep letting them know if you want this feature.
======================================
Will PS4 support media servers or DLNA support in order to stream videos or movies from a home PC?
The PS4 system does not support client functionality* for media servers.
*We appreciate your feedback and are exploring possibilities.

Hopefully I am just being cynical and this is something that can be fixed in a patch.
I guess when I was thinking about backwards compatibility, I was thinking about game discs.IvanKaramazov said:Neither console features any kind of backwards compatibility, at least for now. Until this announcement, we were leaning about 80/20 towards the PS4, but the DLNA is a big issue for me too. I don't want to purchase one purely for DLNA, so I will probably end up waiting a few months, much to my kid's chagrin. My boys want a Playstation, we've always been Wii or XBOX, so at this point we might just get a PS3 and hold out for a few months to see how it goes.NewlyRetired said:The dlna issue is a big one for me. Luckily, in following the Sony tweets, they are already getting bombarded with complaints and are saying they are discussing the issue internally with the development team.
