xbox one vs ps4 (2 Viewers)

Any conclusion here yet? The fact that slapdash leans toward PS4 is almost enough to convince me to go Xbox all by itself, but it's my stupid kid who will be playing it, not me. Maybe I should just ask him. He probably knows more about it than anyone who has posted here, anyhow.

The business of consoles seems to be so huge. Having two monsters compete is important. If it wasn't for MS the ps4 I'm buying wouldn't be as good. How could any other company jump in now and compete. IF Sony or MS failed would the industry survive?
Wow. People have written Nintendo off way too quickly. It seems people have forgotten that they owned the market last gen and still dominate the market in handheld sales.
Nintendo wasn't really in the same market as Sony or Microsoft last gen. They were going after a different set of consumers.
That doesn't take away that they successfully make video game consoles and have done so now for 5 generations. The early WiiU failure isn't the end by a longshot. If you think so, you haven't been paying attention to what Nintendo does.
I get that. I'm just saying that the reason why gamers tend to overlook Nintendo is because they were MIA in the hardcore market last gen.

Seriously just ask your kid. He probably wants whatever console his buddies are getting and we can't tell you that.

Two things--

1. You come in here asking for info, and then insult everyone.

2. You call your kid stupid a lot.

1. I don't insult everyone.

2. My kid is stupid.

Am i the only one who is totally fed up with all the microsoft login security handholding? I had to change the email address on my account (old email was from college, no longer have access). You would think I'm trying to hack into Area 51. I've probably gotten 10 emails/texts with codes that I have to verify. And even after all that, the "official" email address on the account is still one that I don't have access to.

Its beyond painful.

When I signed up for Steam, it required an email for the login. I'm still required to use that same login, although it's no longer required to be an email. It's an email that I haven't used in nearly a decade now. According to Steam support, unless I want to sign up for a new account, I have no other option but to continue using that email. Thankfully, I have a current address listed as one that the account is assigned to. Just not the login.

It's extremely annoying. Sadly, it's the result of that social engineering mess from a while back so once again, a few jerks have ruined things for everyone.

Lord yes. I finally jump in and get my kids their own accounts on a family plan. It creates some mystical email address for them without a password. A week later it is asking for a password that we don't have and now the kids can't play on the new accounts. Hours on the phone and no one can figure out how to get me access to the new accounts. I don't play on the xbox much anymore so its almost been enough to push me to PS4 this time around because the kids would rather have that.

We have a similar problem over here barley since we run three accounts on three xboxs on different TVs depending who is doing what. I have found that it often gives us the choice to verify our accounts by text or email but it won't let us use one that we already have, but if you completely ignore it and press B it will back out of it and let you play. It doesn't say that B will let you do this and I only found it out because I was frustrated and said #### it I'm not typing in this #### again.

They were able to back out with that for awhile and still get online. Now if they back out with B it is offline play only.

If we missed the pre-order.. is there a chance in hell of getting one of these before christmas?
I think Walmart says that even if you missed the pre-order they can guarantee them before Christmas
Came in here to find out where you guys are pre-ordering. The Mrs can't find a PS4 anywhere, all sites will not let her order online. Walmart says it will ship on 12/11 but will not let us order. :kicksrock: If anyone finds somewhere to get one or has any ideas, please share. Or it's going to be an ugly Christmas season for me chasing a ps4.
Last gen I was able to find both a PS3 and Wii at Sams Club while all other places were out. Sams had a pyramid of Wiis that was 5 feet tall and probably 8 feet in diameter at the base. Was pretty impressive.

I've been avoiding that for about a year. I just press B . Sometimes is half signs you out. You're online but can't do online stuff.. Just log off then sign back in .

They're only asking because you're flipping back and forth between xboxs.

Actually I get the same thing pretty much every time I turn on the console. I have gone all the way through the setup several times. I have verified everything and I never play on any other systems.

Do you have an account that signs into an microsoft hosted email that is the same as your xbox ID? This was what gave me fits till I changed it.

Problems with ps4 COD: Ghosts and it's frame rate. Can that be fixed with a patch after the fact or are the first releases of Ghost screwed? Don't know how that works.

True. And with the Win 8.1 setup I am not sure which is the best way to fix it. My login is pretty tied in now. What a cluster.

What domain is the email address you use? Certain ones are agnostic to the . so you can do NC.Commish@pornhub.com on one and NCCommish@pornhub.com on the other and that is what cleared my two factor up.

Thanks for the hint I'll see if I can make that work.

been reading a ton about both of these consoles and some people in this thread are spinning things to fit their narrative.
how grown men can even have a narrative on this topic is funny.
It's not like you can't have both platforms. These things aren't like 10 grand. I ultimately plan to have both like last time. Worst case they are extremely expensive roku or BRD players part-time.

Some people get WAY too invested in this stuff. If the platform wars kill off one or the other you will see a dark era like the late 90s where everything went sideways and back to the PC market, and nobody wants the PC market to thrive, those people are dorks and we hate dorks.
:lmao:

launch day preorder ? if so, might as well keep it and sell it for $$ on ebay at the very least
This.

I initially got my PS4 on a Wal-Mart preorder thinking I'd keep it, but launch titles don't impress me and I know I can make a nice profit by punting it on eBay.

Speaking of eBay, the best advice I've gotten is to do a one day auction the day after launch (when store supplies are exhausted) and cancel bids from people you're unsure of (no history, poor history, etc). He thinks people will make $400-$500 profit this way.

Any conclusion here yet? The fact that slapdash leans toward PS4 is almost enough to convince me to go Xbox all by itself, but it's my stupid kid who will be playing it, not me. Maybe I should just ask him. He probably knows more about it than anyone who has posted here, anyhow.
Not sure why you would give a damn about my preferences, but recent news suggests I'm just going to skip this console generation.

I'm even on the Chinese bandwagon with you.

Just curious why you plan on skipping this generation which will likely last the better part of a decade? Not because I wanna debate it, I'm just generally curious.

I'll hang up and listen, love the show.

Note that you don't have to actively cancel any bid from people who have low ratings if you don't want the hassle. You can set up your account to block any bid from buyers who don't have a certain rating. That way you never have to deal with it.

Note that you don't have to actively cancel any bid from people who have low ratings if you don't want the hassle. You can set up your account to block any bid from buyers who don't have a certain rating. That way you never have to deal with it.
Good advice. Thanks!

I am a fairly experienced Ebay seller. Some of this is likely common knowledge but for those that are not active sellers here is some info that may help you

==========================================================

* Do not open or unwrap the console. Leave it as you receive it

* Do not use the ebay stock photo for the console in your listing. Take your own picture(s) of the unwrapped box (this will give a lot more certainty to the buyers that show you have it in hand)

* Make sure you have a decent Ebay rating. Something over 75 or a 100 will do, and 100% if possible. Most buyers won't take the time to see if your rating is based on selling or buying, so even if you have just been mostly a buyer that should be ok

* People who will be looking on Ebay to buy will be hungry. Find the best option for shipping and then promote it in your description. Ebay buyers are willing to spend $35 more to get "free shipping" that costs $20.

* I think an Auction works best if you are certain these will be in short supply, else don't totally discount Buy It Now. There will be a certain section of the ebay buyers who will be willing to pay just a little more for the certainty of sale when they click, instead of having to battle in an auction. Note that ebay no longer distinguishes between Buy It Now and Auctions in their fees.

*If you intend to let your auction run more than one day, make sure it ends on Sunday at 9:00pm eastern. This is the sweet spot for Ebay sales stats.

* There are going to be 100's of these consoles on sale on ebay. As such there will also be some people trying to "protect" their own sales by creating new ebay id's and falsely buying up the competition and never paying. You can easily protect against this by simply blocking buyers who do not have a specific ebay rating. You will also block some innocent potential buyers in the process but it is worth it.

Any conclusion here yet? The fact that slapdash leans toward PS4 is almost enough to convince me to go Xbox all by itself, but it's my stupid kid who will be playing it, not me. Maybe I should just ask him. He probably knows more about it than anyone who has posted here, anyhow.
Not sure why you would give a damn about my preferences, but recent news suggests I'm just going to skip this console generation.I'm even on the Chinese bandwagon with you.
Just curious why you plan on skipping this generation which will likely last the better part of a decade? Not because I wanna debate it, I'm just generally curious.

I'll hang up and listen, love the show.
Here is my thinking:

Can't bring myself to get an Xbox One despite having my favorite games to play (Halo). Part of that has to do with the awful experiences I had with 360 hardware; I had to sent my initial purchase back to MSFT about 5 times before just buying a new version a few years later. Most of my friends ended up buying a second console during as well because of similar problems. I have a lot of ill-will towards Xbox as a result. The other part is that I really resent having to pay more for a piece of hardware (Kinect) I am completely opposed to.

Really have never been big on Playstation and haven't seen anything with the PS4 that wows me. Lacking the media server features is pretty dumb as I download a lot of content I like to stream. I skipped PS3 so it would be good to catch up on some franchises, but the game streaming service seems to be lacking details and expensive at the moment. Makes me think picking up a cheap PS3 and buying used games is a better option for that.

I am in the process of building a PC right now and will be buying a 3DS XL soon. Will potentially pick up a WiiU once Super Smash comes out Actually, this will be on 3DS too....

I love gaming, but that is a lot of money to lay out so I can't see including one of these nextgen consoles. I do like reading these discussions despite not being a fan of the direction for Sony and Microsoft.

If multiplayer isn't important to you then I think picking up a PS3 and going through their awesome backlog of SP games will keep you busy for quite a while.

It won't kill you but I am sure you can see how it is going to limit your chances of profit especially with so many that will be put up on ebay.

I'd try and recover you old info or ask a friend with a account in good standing if they can list it for you.

There's a good chance I may sell it locally anyway, which would negate the need for shipping. I live in an area with a crapload of disposable income and I know our local Wal-Mart and GameStop will get gutted in a hurry.

Good luck. I tried flipping the PS3 on launch day and within 12 hours, they were selling for regular price and I almost didn't make even. It wasn't worth waiting in the cold November weather for 5 hours for that. I won't do it again.

Yea, I think the era of flipping those is all but done unless one is clearly outselling all others like the Wii did back then.
Yes. I wish I waited until that Sunday and stood in line for the Wii instead. Who saw that coming? I certainly didn't.
I remember several years ago when it was nearly impossible to find a Wii. We had threads here about how scarce they were, and whenever somebody posted about some Retailer X who had some units available for sale they already sold out before anybody could snag one. This is all anecdote of course, but I don't see anything like the same level of excess demand for either of the new consoles. Maybe that will change, but with Thanksgiving right around the corner I'm not seeing it.
