The more I see and hear this guy on TV, the more I like him. Maurile had mentiuoned before of what a straight forward stand up guy he is.

At the presser yesterday he was asked about the CJ TD no TD catch at the end of the game. Jim said "The day that I say a single call cost us a game is the day I get out of the game" Then moved right on to the next question..no #####ing or moaning at all.

I really like how he speaks of the team concept on all the Sirius interviews that I hear. I am a big fan and think that the Lions will be glad that they hired him. How about that defense in week one?

The D was very good but Lovie Smith should be fired. How does this guy keep his job?

I loved the way he handled that. That said, he has been in football long enough to know that any rule that makes that not a catch is pure BS. I was happy with the way the D kept the team in the game in the 2nd half, but they will be in big trouble if Stafford is out for any significant time.

NFL Rules have to be very clearly defined with no ambiguities... try crafting an evenly enforceable definition for a catch and see what you come up with that will cover all situations. The real answer is WRs should know to securely hold onto the ball all the way through the play and not be looking to celebrate ASAP. WR 101.

Love Schwartz and the direction the Lions appear to be headed. Too bad Stafford had a setback to his development.

Don't confuse this event with other diva wideouts going bonkers with a celebration. What he did was just fine. What's he supposed to do? Hold onto it until the flight home?Terrible rule and even worse interpretation of the rule by the refs in that game. Scwartz deserves high praise for how he handled himself during the presser.

The guy inherited a mess, and the Lions should be extremely patient with him (although as a Packer fan, I hope he is fired after the year!)

He knows that a defense is built in the trenches, and he is starting to get his players.

Offense is a work in progress, but I am sure they will address the O Line in the offseason as well.

Affirmative action.

Love what Schwartz and Mayhew are doing.

The Lions are one more offseason away (LBs, DBs) from making some serious noise.

Even before the Stafford injury I figured they'd be vastly improved this year and still not have a much better record due to their schedule.

The pieces are in place on offense and the DL suddenly looks like it could dominate.

Agree 100% on Schwartz. The refs called CJ's momentary catch by the book. The real answer is to wrap both arms around the ball and don't hot dog it by holding it out with one hand.Let's see if CJ learns this painful lesson. :goodposting:

That is impossible in real life, hence the mess we had yesterday or with the Brady tuck. NFL refs have 20 years of experience behind them, allow them to call the game how they see it. Everytime a rule is changed to fix a problem, it creates new problems. We have instant replay now and what have we gotten? Longer games, less flow, more commercials, and just as many questionable calls.

Exactly... the rules spell it out as clearly as reasonably possible, but there will always be occasional situations like Calvin's non-catch.As a player, whenever possible, don't give the rules a chance to negate a good play.
