We keep 8 players from year to year and this year one guy kept Randy Mcmicheal and Ben Watson.

A few years back, when the Saints traded Ricky Williams to the Dolphins, Ricky was a top10 back. A guy in our league drafted Ricky, and someone said, "He is going to be good in Miami!". The guy that just drafted him looks up and says (seriously), "Ricky Williams was traded to the Dolphins? Hmmm, so who is the runningback in New Orleans?"

One guy drafted Fred Barnett about a week after Fred broke his leg.
Another guy drafted Larry Centers in the 2nd rd (non-ppr) because of all those receiving yards he got.
Last year, I was asked the question, "Who does he play for?" after drafting Jerious Norwood and Maurice Jones-Drew.
About 10 years ago, an owner protected Andre Rison in a 2-player keeper). Not horrible, but then he proceeded to draft Chris Chandler in the 1st round to lock up that all-important QB-WR combo.
A couple of years ago, another owner drafted Trent Green with the 3rd overall pick in a 2-player keeper.

In our live draft 2 years ago, the start of a 12 Team 3 Keeper league, 1 team took P Manning 1.01 (while not horrible, he passed LJ, LT and all RB's until the 4th round). His next bad move was to take Ricky Williams in the 4th round (still in China) followed by Place Kicker M Gramatica in the 6th (does Kick off's only, no FG) and then Denver Def in the 7th, then retired RB Eddie George and Adimchinobe Echemandu (when he was RB#5 in MIN).
He earned alot of trash talk on the message boards/chat room and then earned the 1.01 pick next year too!

It's not always easy to get a local league with a live draft where everyone is equally knowledgeable.Whats the point in playing in leagues like this?

We have a guy in our league who many years ago took with his first pick in the league - Brent Jones. Took with his second pick in the league - Jay Novacek. A guy in my league last year took Marshall Faulk in the 3rd round. I don't think Faulk was working at NFLN yet, but I believe there was already talk of him taking a job there. 
I'm in a league of 10 where 5-6 love following that pattern. Got Steve Smith, need to draft Jake Delhomme in the 5th round to lock up that QB-WR combo. Just have to shake my head...

Year's ago the Viking homer in the league drafted Richie Cunningham in the 7th round because, "The clock was running out, and I couldn't decide, but I knew it would upset (the diehard Cowboy fan) if I took his kicker." In the 8th round the diehard Cowboy fan got revenge and drafted Fuad Raveiz, PK, Minnesota Vikings, Retired.

"Is OJ Simpson available?"
"How many kickers are we allowed to draft?"
In the 6th round: "Is Marvin Harrison still on the board"
Those were hillarious 15 years ago, but they died with Disco.
Leave the comedy to the pro's!
The other thing is if you are the guy who constantly has to complement the guy who just made a pick like:
"Great pick"
"Awesome pick"
Leave it alone. You guys can make out after the draft if you are so wowed by his team!

you guys really don't like the QB-WR combo? I choose to "live by the sword, die by the sword" in that i purposely try to get one good QB-WR combo. Last year I got Holt early and scooped up Bulger a few rounds later. Needless to say, it was a very good year for me ...

If your standards for who knows what about Fantasy Football is the "Joined Date" or been a member since, then your acting like a jerk. The "he's a newb or guppy" are all ignorant low rent terms. Stick with baby shark, that was the most decent thing your said. Dont worry about when somone decided to start smack talking or giving their opoinions on the FBG's Forums, you dont ever know who's who in the forums anyway, and its not very bright to assume FBG membership time is equal to Fantasy Football knowledge. I was visting this site for years before I started giving my two cents in the forums. what made it even worse was it was about 4 rounds earlier than vinatieri got picked as the second kicker
same league about 10 years earlier, a guy picked shannon sharpe as the first TE off the board in a start-1 TE league in round 4 ...
his pick in round 5 ... Ben Coates, he picked a bench TE about when people were starting to think about picking bench RBs

Are you in my league? Was that guy named Mark?Three years ago, a league I was in switched from a draft to an auction with a $100 salary cap (QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, Flex, D, K, 5 Bench). For the most part everyone was paying fair value for their players, then about 20 players in someone nominates Mike Vanderjagt for $1...I hear, "Two dollars"..."Going once, going twice..."..."Ten dollars!" Everyone else was likeEveryone let him hear it. But then about half an hour later someone nominates another kicker for $1..."Two dollars"..."Going once, going twice..."..."Three dollars." It was the same guy that already paid $10 for Vanderjagt! "I need a backup," he says.
I really think I have the best guppy story of all time.
It was 2004. I was bored on a Saturday morning, checked the custom leagues that had been made available on yahoo FF.
Saw one that looked ok, and joined. Did the draft about an hour later.
So, 2 minutes before the draft. A guy asks what the "Bye" means by the players name.

I just did a 14-team, 15-round draft with some musician friends of mine, many of whom have never played fantasy football before. I'm generally the only guy in the league who really keeps abreast of NFL news, so I was tweaking some people by informing them about recent injuries to the player they just drafted ("Ooh, you're taking Mark Clayton here? Aren't you concerned about another ankle injury from a player with a history of ankle injuries?" or "You know Mike Bell injured his hip just a couple of quarters after Henry sprained his MCL and isn't guaranteed to be the #2 in Denver, right?", or my personal favorite, "Ummm... Reggie Williams is currently #5 on Jacksonville's depth chart and not guaranteed to make the team..."). By the mid-to-late rounds, people began asking me if their player was injured or relegated to a backup role before drafting. By the very late rounds, they were flat out asking me who to pick.
Plus he's playing to win not to survive if Lynch goes down. Thomas does not give him an edge but another backup rb might who gains a starting spot might.Who cares about Anthony Thomas? He has some great backups in Green and Lewis and his late round RBs are better options than Thomas regardless.
Especially when the entry fee is $500.With the amount of luck involved almost any league will get your competitive juices flowing. Plus juggernaut teams don't get boring.Faulk and James in '99LT, RWilliams and Deuce in '02Boo yeah!

In a 2-player keeper league:
1. The owner with the #1 overall pick last year proudly & loudly selecting Dominick Davis with the first pick. This was after his knee problems were widely known and just before he was put on IR.
2. This year, another owner selecting Marion Barber with the 2nd pick in the 1st round (it is not a TD heavy league by any means).
3. This year, an owner trading Stephen Jackson for a 1st round pick (in a two player keeper league). He protects Cedric Benson instead of Jackson and then selects Torry "Bum Knee" Holt with the pick. He essentially traded Stephen Jackson for Bnson & Holt.

You picked a fine team. Ingenius way of getting accolades and putting it on this board all in one.
In all of my 12-team leagues of almost entirely seasoned FF veterans, all of the owners (except me) draft by the stud RB theory. My typical draft over the first few rounds will look something like this:
1. WR Marvin Harrison
2. TE Antonio Gates
3. DT Baltimore
4. RB
5. WR
6. RB
7. QB
Yes, I normally get my 2nd RB near round 6. Yes, I (used to) get laughter EVERY year. And oh, I go to the superbowl a full 50% of the time and obviously win half of those, over nearly a decade of playing. That's roughly 32 leagues over that time.

Had a 10 team draft he other night in a pretty big money league where we only start one QB. I'm one of the guys that usually waits for a QB. After 5 rounds, everyone but me and 1 other team had a QB. Round 6 comes and one team drafts their second QB (McNabb and Romo). Before it gets to me in the 6th round the other QB-less team grabs a QB. So after 6 rounds the highest ranked QB's on the board are Hasselbeck, Leinart, and Favre. Round 8 picking in front of me, another team takes QB #2 - Hasselbeck. So after 8 rounds two teams have two QB's and everybody else but me has one. I end up with Leinart and Favre as my QB's.
The guy with McNabb and Romo ends up with LJ, MB III, Mike Bell and Buckhalter for his RB's.

Some guy in my slow draft 12-tm league (read: low $$, draft done on message board; this is my #3 league) posts in round five after it was pointed out that he only had 1 RB so far: "I'm gonna take a guy who will get 8-to-10 TDs and who is on none of your radar screens!"
Lo and behold, in the next round, he takes: Tony Hunt. Damn, if you just stated he's not on anyone's radar (and he probably wasn't at this stage), why take him in ROUND SIX?!?
The following round he takes kicker Nate Kaeding and defends it by saying "he outscored many of the players being drafted now!" not realizing it's not about the scoring, but about the availability.
Clearly, this guy does not know the finer points of draft strategy.

We have a 12 team redraft fairly normal league starting one QB. The person at the 1.4 spot took Tom Brady (only LT, LJ, and SJax were taken at that point). Then in Round 4 he took another QB. He had 2 qbs on his roster before he had a TE, D/ST, WR2, or RB2. 
From that point on we thanked him for his donation.

Reverse Guppy Story:
We were gathering for the initial draft in a dynasty league. Everyone has magazines, laptops, printed articles, cheetsheats, etc. Except one person - he comes in with a few hand written names and numbers on a half sheet of notebook paper and six beers. As the draft unfolds and people start firing out questions or making small talk about what's-his-name or someone asks who is the 3rd QB on the Chiefs and the drafter with the half sheet of paper (after 3 beers) fires out his name like he's on the Chief's coaching staff (occasionally mentioning what college he went to or his age, height, etc.), we all realize he aint no guppy. We come to find out that this is about his 15th draft and his notes were so he wouldn't get mixed up between redraft and dynasty rankings.
Two years later, he has the championship trophy on his fireplace mantle.
The guy with the half sheet was no guppy - he was the shark.
(But, I knew it along, because he's my dad!)
Oh, it's all good - I won the championship in year 1.
We're trying to get the trophy named "The DoubleG Trophy" (he and I have the same name - I'm Jr.) - kinda like they named the SuperBowl trophy after the coach who won it the first two times. The other 8 owners aren't nearly as enthralled with this thought, however.
