Before the games start, I usually look back on a couple of errors I made on draft day that I wish I could take back. Of course, it might turn out they weren't errors at all, but good luck that seemed like an error (I "reached" for Devonta Freeman the year he broke out, and regretted it until the season started. Then I pretended to be really smart). So here's mine:
* Biggest mistake: J. Gordon over Smith-Schuster. I knew what I was doing at the time, but I can't seem to remember why it made sense. I wanted to take a few risks, but that one was silly. Smith-Schuster fell lower than he should have, and I didn't capitalize. Now that part of the roster bothers me. It doesn't have to define my season, but it's an advantage I threw away.
* Took Garoppolo when better QBs were available. Again, I didn't take advantage of value when I should have.
* Too many high-upside backups. Sure, guys like Conner, Ekeler and Coleman are worth spots on rosters, but all three is a bit of overkill. I didn't do a good enough job of securing "boring" starters who can hold down the fort on bye weeks or in case of injury. Lottery tickets are fun to have, but you can't build a retirement plan on them.
These are across different teams, but you get the idea. Overall the drafts weren't bad, but the mistakes tend to stick out for me.
