Your thoughts on "chopping the pot"? (1 Viewer)

Just curious - high stakes league running for 13 years all with the same 12 friends.Top 4 who made the playoffs who are the closest 4 friends in the league decided to combine the pool money they would have won and split it 4 ways, enjoy their early Xmas money and play for bragging rights the last few weeks (which actually mean a lot in this league).I'm the treasurer (see: I hold the money) and have no problem paying them out, it's their money.Commish caught wind, and decided that it's against the rules (he didn't make the playoffs and is pissed about it) and next year anyone included in chopping the pot will have to put an extra 100 dollars to the pool or be locked from the league.Kind of wuss move to chop the pot, but it's not my money - could care less.Kind of an ##### move to make up rules as you go and try to fine everyone involved. This happened in any of your leagues in the past? What was the reaction? Really just curious - I don't care one way or the other but it's caused quite a controversy in the league because it is usually so competitive.BTW - Top 4 get paid. 2nd place gets LESS than what the chopped pot would amount to, so really the only chance of making more than the quartered pot is by finishing first because 1st place wins such a high percentage of the money.
Tell your commish to quit being a #####. It ain't his money.wouldn't such a rule need to be voted on. I bet in the offseason (ie a little cooling off period) he'd back down. why does he care?ESPECIALLY with the BTW at the end.

Commish is friend since 1st grade, but admittedly a huge doosh. One of those guys you're friends with just because you've known him so long but just acts like a complete ###-mitten whenever possible.i'd love to up and leave the league or appoint a new commish but as sad as this sounds, this league has been around for 13 years and its tough to find a spot open up EVER. It's high stakes but it's also between friends, everyone else in the league is afraid to upset the apple cart. I frankly called him a tool and a doosh quite a few times over this, he just lays it on even thicker.?Maybe I'll bounce next year, but I enjoy being involved with all my other closest friends in this contest.

Even so, if you're such a gambler how about growing a pair and go for the big prize?
Lots of nonsense in this thread. Like your manhood or cowardice has anything at all do with fantasy football.

:nerd: at those who say they wouldnt chop because they are "gamblers". Any true gambler knows that the goal of gambling is to put yourself in the best situation to make money, not just go all in and hope for the best. So if you are playing the highest scoring team in the league in the finals, and you just lost Aaron Rodgers, it doesnt make sense to accept a chop if offered?

The games are still played and you still have bragging rights if you win. Most of my leagues have prize pools of around $2000. Obviously not life changing money but enough to where I would not needlessly turn down a chop if I felt my team was inferior.
LOL. I'll bet the aforementioned 'gamblers' play the lotto.

sounds like nothing a little pubic/email list mocking about how he's behaving here couldn't take care of. Maybe some of your spineless friends may even join the fray and tell him to back down? win-win!

Before this thread, I never realized how many high school and college guys we had on this board. The fist pumping and #### wagging going on in here has reached levels normally only seen in the FFA.

Alot people taking their masculinity, the FF payouts and themselves way too seriously up in here.

FF payout prefrence <> masculinity. HTH.
Bingo
Some of the saddest gambling you'll ever see.

I did send a public league email but it's not really appropriate to post here. It's laden with some pretty terrible language and names of those involved and I don't have the time to edit it.

It's just tough to describe this guy. He's a class A jerk off. Thankfully he doesn't hold the money.

I realize how ridiculous this comes off as folks and i realize the best thing to do would be to join a league without a tool of a commish, it's just tough. We look forward to this league every year. Guys fly in from all over the country to be here for the draft. We take golf trips together annually, we have huge events just for picking the draft order and the divisions. I'm pretty powerless. My original question, since this is really the only league I've ever done seriously, is if the pot chopping is common or are the playoff teams being a bunch of wussies.

Do appreciate the responses either way.

12 year old league with no chopped pots. Why is everyone so anxious to do it now? It is just the commish or are other teams in the league against it also?
