Agree that there is a communication problem (at least from the employees perspective) but don't agree that should be the first thing addressed.I think what's being overlooked here is the guy must feel he's not being heard. That's a problem you need to fix first or it's going to happen again.
As usual, we don't know all the facts. It's not the same conversation with this employee if he's a long-term good employee under new management as it would be if it's a newer employee who hasn't been fitting in the team and this being one of many irrational statements.Agree that there is a communication problem (at least from the employees perspective) but don't agree that should be the first thing addressed.
- The employee has to be reported. First and foremost is that the threat needs to be addressed regardless of the reason for the threat.
- If he doesn't get fired then the reason for the comment needs to be addressed to make sure that it doesn't happen again.
I like the above, but would suggest that the immediate action would be to restrict his access until he is evaluated and deemed a non threat.Agree that there is a communication problem (at least from the employees perspective) but don't agree that should be the first thing addressed.

I disagree. Seems like there is ALWAYS one guy. Every company I have ever worked at since I was 16. There is that one employee that thinks he is god's gift and is grossly underpaid. Even when I worked landscaping there was one guy on the crew that was constantly #####ing about how this is BS that we do all the hard work and the owner just swoops in and grabs the check. He was 25. We were 17.This is absolutely true, but doesn't change the question.
I would fire him on the spot.
Yeah, I mean I see the allure in living like a coward. But it's just not for me.If he was talking about "taking down a company", he is probably a little twisted in the head. He probably isn't the kind of guy you would want to have your name on their " take down list. Being a suspect in snitching him out to HR would likely land you on his list. Then he might take you out.
This guy is being heard, he is heard by all the other employees and probably bringing moral down at the company. This type also never seems to go through proper channels to express their concerns or asked for raises, they would rather just complain, you know "F" the man. You fix the problem by getting rid of the bad apple. We have only tolerated this when the person had a very specific skill set the was not easily replaceable.I think what's being overlooked here is the guy must feel he's not being heard. Good post and probably accurate. While I still don't know that this statement is an "automatic fire" for me, the other facts given make it hard to believe this is someone worth holding onto. This guy is being heard, he is heard by all the other employees and probably bringing moral down at the company. HR "overreacted", but I guess due diligence is a good thing?Didn't see that coming.![]()
How did they overreact?HR "overreacted", but I guess due diligence is a good thing?![]()
Well... that's according to some (ppl who have been here with him for many years and know him). I guess a true "overreaction" would have been firing him on the spot. How did they overreact?HR "overreacted", but I guess due diligence is a good thing?![]()
So, after this two scenarios:
1) Having learned his "lesson" he pipes down and quietly simmers in the corner, only spewing his negative stuff at the coffee machina and over lunch, quietly breaking down morale (even further)
....until one day he snaps
This would be an easy firing. In this day and age, there should be zero tolerance for this crap.
