I can't imagine why anyone would still be with DTV or Dish or any cable company in 2024. Time to let them die a very well deserved, slow and painful death.

I get the hate for cable companies, but DirecTV was never a problem for me. The only issue I had was their insistence on paying me to get Sunday Ticket.
Every year they'd post a ridiculous price increase and every year I'd call them and get adjustments. There were a few years were the credits exceeded the cost of Sunday Ticket.
If they'd simply raised the price by even 5% a year, they'd have made a lot more money.

I'm sure some had a decent experience, but since I've ditched them, I haven't once had to make a phone call to anyone for any reason, or wait on hold, get transferred several times, explain to several non English speakers who I was AGAIN then ultimately wait on a service truck that would never be on time that I also had to pay extra for. I don't have to renegotiate anything ever. My TV doesn't go out when it rains, I can cancel any time I want and restart it anytime I want. The constant battles with TV networks that would cause me to lose programming are gone. I could go on, but still paying substantially more for all that garbage just doesn't make sense to me.

DirecTV streaming has no dish issues obviously and is a better value for what I get than YTTV or Fubo.

What got me was when you went from owning your receiver/dish/equipment to now leasing them. Then when an issue happened you had to pay to replace the hardware evern though I didn't own it. It is your fricking receiver that is malfunctioning. Replace it for free so I can keep getting the service I am paying you already for.

Also the nickel and diming for HD, added receiver, DVR, genie, repair services (on leased equipment), etc. There were more but I have blocked them from my mind because they were so terrible.

I also shouldn't have to call and complain about pricing to only have you lower it because I called or give me any other adjustments of the day that totally depended on who you were talking to that day or how long you stayed on to complain about various things. Total BS way of handling customer service.

So glad to be rid of them.

How are you guys watching YouTubetv in the house? Does each TV need to either be a Smart TV with YouTubetv app on it or plug Apple TV or Firestick into it to log in?
Yes. I have a couple TCL Roku TVs that have the roku functionality built in. For my other TVs, I use either a Roku box or a Fire stick.

Yea mine went up to $93 bucks. I have been very happy with them but I'm only giving them another 7 dollar increase then I'll go back to outside antenna. I'm never paying over $100 for tv again.

Just got the notice of another price increase, and a rather steep one. $82.99 now for the basic package before tax or any add-ons like the sports package. Will easily put my price over $100/mo after tax now.

Are any of the other streaming cable services still priced relatively cheaply? It seems like YTTV has captured a ton of market share and is using it to bully customers, as is customary.

They roped me in for the first time this football season with Sunday Ticket. Chase has been giving $20 off each month on various credit cards I have with them which has made the price more reasonable. But probably cancel next month and see what they offer me to come back later

Yeah, that’s a pretty steep increase. Enough to at least cause me to explore other options.

Though it’s not a surprise. Their NFL Sunday Ticket deal is absolutely slaughtering them and they need to now squeeze everyone else to take some of the hurt off. YouTube set to lose $1.2B on Sunday Ticket this year.

IMO, they WAY overpriced Sunday Ticket this year. Almost $400 for subscribers or $500 for non-YouTube tv customers is crazy.

I'm not sure they realize it, or if they just don't care, but the NFL receives so much for Sunday Ticket that there is no way they can ever make money on the deal. DirecTV, then AT&T and now YouTube TV (Google) take turns believing that by having the rights to Sunday Ticket, subscribers are just going to come pouring in for the base package (required) in order to get Sunday Ticket.

Don't get me wrong, there are those out there that will move to whatever provider has it in order to get Sunday Ticket, but the numbers aren't anywhere near what they'd have you (or Wall Steet for that matter) believe.

If a bunch of affluent, middle-aged people who have been posting on a fantasy football forum for decades think that you're overcharging for your football broadcast, you've made a mistake. I should be begging YouTube to take my money, and I'm kind of on the fence about Sunday Ticket, at least a little bit. If I'm not a rock-sold customer, it's hard to believe the average viewer is.

I remember reading the YT was obligated to keep the same price structure that the NFL had with DTV, at least for the first season or so. Not sure on the accuracy of that but maybe Sunday Ticket will be better priced in the future. I would love an ala carte option but illegal streams work for me for now.
I pay like $120 for a full MLB season and ESPN+ winds up costing me $50 for the NHL season. They need to do better for me to pay for NFL. I would do $100 for just my team's games.

I'll still take the $10 increase and stick with YTTV. I wish they would get NHL Network.

Checking on other options. The reason I chose it 7 years ago was the limited content. Now I've got 100 channels of crap I don't want (kids shows, talking newsheads, badminton channels, F1, and paid access to more crap I don't want (NFL ticket) that I'm sure is buried in my cost. At some point TV just isn't that interesting. ETA ... Quick research looks like I might want Sling TV. More of a pay by bucket service.

Totally agree. Knew we'd come back around here some point. Charging someone for 100 channels they have zero desire to watch so they can get the 12-20 that they actually care about it just dumb.

Televised content is the one area where I just sort of accept that I'm getting absolutely shafted. I watch too much TV/sports to just go cold turkey and with everything so spread out now, its just impossible to keep the cost down.

Just cancelled the disney bundle (none of the new marvel/star wars stuff in the past year has been interesting to me. I'll probably sign up temporarily for Andor Season 2.) and tried to cancel Peacock (always said I'd NEVER get it, but I signed up for the Olympics and some EPL games) but they offered me 6 months at $1.99. So I'll suck that up for when they put the actual good EPL games on there while Wolves v Ipswich is on USA network.

I get Amazon for the free shipping anyway, Paramount+ for free with another subscription I buy and generally get mmy money's worth on Netflix (although content is light right now for me) and Apple TV (lots of good shows on there)

Never took the plunge on Youtube TV. I just hate the idea of having to fiddle with an App on my main TV. Cable is stupid expense (I have Fios) but I'd rather pay more to just be able to turn my TV on and channel surf.

Nothing to fiddle with really with YTTV. Turn your TV on and you're in your guide or on the last channel you were watching. At most it's one click into the app. I love it and wish I dropped DTV sooner.

They're definitely teetering on the point where I'll more actively pursue other options.
In fact, if anyone has any suggestions I'm all for it.

Honestly, this is about the point where I'd pull the plug completely, however, they allow you to share with up to 6 family members so I have a son and daughter out of house, as well as my parents and MIL and my sister all sharing this account. So for now I'm good with it.

But, netflix is getting the cut this month. I'll revisit it in 3-6 months, but even though they are only 25 bucks/month or so, I don't get nearly as much utility out of it.

The spinning wheel and lack of a back button are the most annoying parts of YTTV (and other streaming). So much so that this price increase may send me back to verizon.

Holding the center button works as a back button for me on my TV remote.

Actually, for Sunday Ticket, you don’t even need to subscribe to YouTube TV. It’s an extra $100 if you don’t though.

I was going to come in and say the same thing. I hated there was no back button but then I figured out there actually was one. In general YTTV is exactly like DTV functionally. It has a guide and library (DVR). You can rewind/FF as needed. It is even becoming more and more like DTV with the price hike next month.

Along does have more lower price points, but is split up in a way that I found challenging and would end up coming around to paying for the whole channel bundle at some point. And the interface is much worse than yttv. But it is worth trying for the price if one of the smaller bundles works for you.

Just looked at Sling and the split of channels between Orange and Blue are annoying. Orange plus the Sports Package would work great but you lose NFL Network, TruTV, and FS1. NFL Network shows games now I don't care about all their talk shows and highlights. TruTV is only needed for 2 weeks with NCAA Tournament and FS1 has stuff I watch often enough. YouTube might be expensive enough that I just do without FS1 and NFL Network and add blue for half a month to watch the NCAA tournament.

Well yeah, they intentionally split it that way so that lots of people end up buying both packages.

If you start to cancel they immediately hold off the $10 increase until July. Just did it.
Saw it on a FB group
Thanks! That worked.

Of course, just another way in which we're just going in circles, paying someone else for the cable experience. Threaten to cancel to get a better rate for a period of time? Check.
Only good thing is that it was much easier than the old long, annoying phone call to the cable company.

Is this correct? Right now I have my dad's cell phone on my account. Might be a nice trade if I can setup a profile and use his YouTube tv account.

ETA: I went about 10 years without any "TV" service. Then signed up for YouTube TV before March Madness, kept it for the Masters and .... Still have it.

The constant pixilated screen or whatever you call it is driving me crazy. Literally on the only channel I use for Prime. I'm also not getting the game downstairs, which makes no sense (no I'm not over the max users).

Is it 4 users now?

****, I'm in the wrong thread, sorry.

Wait, I have a YouTube question I've been meaning to get to. My recordings are confusing. They are dropping like flies and many series I thought I recorded for good seem not to be happening.

Can you actually call and get a human on any of this stuff? Hell, I'd welcome an agentix at this point.

I either did something wrong or they stopped doing this, because it didn't work for me.
Didn't work for me either. And I actually found a YouTube tutorial that showed all the steps it goes through until the offer comes off. I definitely made it to the final "cancel" page, without an offer coming up.

They pulled the plug on that one right quick. It must've spread like wildfire.

i’ve been using yttv in italy. i have an amex and visa card, along with normal banking in the states. check your “offers” with these places, i have been on a $20 monthly credit since i arrived here by checking offers and moving my payment type accordingly. i have also seen fubo offering the same type of credit.

I just did it moments ago, and received an email confirmation that I have activated the promo savings. I guess the proof will be with my next payment installment.

I just did it too and it worked for me. Like you said, we will see when the bill comes.

Now with this increase, I hope they can get it together to bring the regional Bally's sports network.

Did either of you have a previous offer utilized through them? The term details stated it that if someone had participated in any other YTTV promo offer that they wouldn't be eligible for this.

Not sure if that's the case, just spitballin' on a possible reason.

@Al Czervik , they don't have MLB or NHL. I don't think Bally's is coming anytime soon.
