I'm pretty sure clicking a button in an email is not much work.
The point is, why force the paying customer, who is not getting what they paid for due to no fault of their own, to do any work at all. A simple credit applied to everyone’s account is incredibly easy. To require work, for the obvious reason of knowing not everyone will do it, only reinforces the greed angle. It’s an incredibly poor look at a time where they could do right by their customers.
How will I ever get that 5 seconds of my time back?
So the point flew right over your head. Got it.
No, I got your "point" completely. Your opinion is Google is being greedy and has totally crapped the customer service bed by having you spend 5 seconds to claim a credit that they in no way have to offer.

Filing that in the crazy things people complain about folder.
Not sure I’d call giving an opinion about a topic on a message board discussing the topic “complaining”. But ok.

Thanks for the heads up on the $20 credit. Was a little hard to find, but found the button to claim it (was at the bottom of the Settings area under "Updates").

Thx this helped me find it. Funny how they tried to hide it down there
It did seem hidden to me, too. But just got the follow up email from them that tells you where it is and includes a link right to it.

I get why so many people are annoyed that they didn't just make it automatic, but it's not like they're hiding it from any of their customers - they sent one email yesterday with subject "An update on your YouTube TV credit" explaining it and then another today, "Redeem your YouTube TV credit" with the easy instructions and link.

FYI, I did get an email from YTTV yesterday explaining how to get the credit.
Were you able to get it to work? The link in the email takes me here: https://tv.youtube.com/settings/service_updates and these is no opportunity to trigger the credit. I clicked on the help and the banner states they are essentially overwhelmed with Disney/ESPN inquiries. FUN.
Like I said earlier, the fact that they are making people redeem the credit doesn't bother me so much, but this kind of thing pisses me off. Like how some people could get that earlier "unofficial" credit for a few months while for others (like me) the option didn't show up for some seemingly random reason.

My redemption worked fine this time. Quick obvious button on that update page you get sent to and now when I go there, it says "Disney Content You’ve successfully claimed your $20.00 credit. This will be applied towards your next bill."

AI gives the usual recommendations... make sure you're using a browser and not the app, clear browser cache/cookies, make sure you're signed in as the primary account holder. But also notes that if you pay for it indirectly through something like Google Play or T-mobile, that the credit might get applied automatically and you won't see the option.

Not missing ESPN yet, which says something about my opinion of the NFL, as Monday Night Football represents about 90% of my ESPN exposure. Quitting MNF has been just as easy as quitting TNF.
Next step……quitting the NFL all together.

Why?
The amount of time I’ve gotten back to focus on other things has been tremendous. Surprisingly I haven’t really missed it at all. My enjoyment had been waning over the last couple years so it wasn’t like I went from all in to nothing.

"Disney Content You’ve successfully claimed your $20.00 credit. This will be applied towards your next bill."
Pure genius on YTTV's part. For $20 you're less likely to leave the service if the Disney beef continues, or if they have slap fights with additional providers and lose that content as well.
:lmao:

How much time were you devoting to NFL?
I mean at one point most of the day Sunday. When I was playing fantasy far more than that.

Which doesn't really answer why you suggested @Mister CIA abandon the NFL entirely. His statement was that MNF represented 90% of his ESPN exposure. I don't recall him stating that he didn't enjoy the NFL. (Of course my notebook could be outdated.)

You don't get to be Google by not optimizing your business to take advantage of human nature

One of the more fascinating threads on an NFL Football forum about how the most popular sport in the US is so horrible. https://forums.footballguys.com/threads/the-nfl-is-horrible-this-year.818571/page-5#post-25534333

It's the commercials (and constant game stoppages), right?

That's one of the many things that apparently make the NFL so horrible. Lots more than that though in the thread.

Well, I mean yeah... this pretty much sums up why I don't have much of a problem with it - it's clearly designed for the subset of the membership that is like me, where I recognize the loss and am affected by it to the point that it makes me at least consider switching providers, but it isn't such a big deal that it's a clear cut decision to switch. If those of us like me are already leaning towards sticking around, then the $20 sure doesn't hurt.

Then you've got the people who don't feel much affected at all. If they're paying attention and put forth minimal effort, they get $20 back which might feel like free money.

And you have those who are understandably affected enough to switch. $20 is going to be laughed at, but honestly they'd probably leave anyway if it were $40 or $50, so what are you gonna do?

Of course, all three groups (including me) would complain if they kept Disney and subsequently bumped up the monthly rates significantly.

That wasn’t his entire statement hence mine.

i do not remember receiving the email for the credit.

I randomly found it before the good tip in here on it's location.

$20 doesn't change my world, but i am in the camp that doesn't appreciate it being "hidden." if i received an email with a quick and easy 1 button and activate, i would have been happier about it

Yes, I clicked on it and it said I would be credited with next month's bill

Oh, I'm basically through with the NFL too. It's not worth talking about at length except to say that it's all over but for rote habits. Why? Because the NFL has become the consumer, and I'm the consumed. Bye.

... and Red Zone multibox viewing is a trash experience (I'm okay with a few ads), and I'm sick of having google for schedules, stream services, exploring free trials, & maintaining subscriptions.

I'm happy for everyone who still enjoys the product. My only enjoyment now comes from screen pans to Jerry Jones when the Cowboys lose, and that's not enough.

Just thinking about YTTV making people "redeem" the $20 credit instead of just applying it to everyone bill automatically. I bet Google wants data to show Disney how many people are actively requesting it, inferring to Disney how many people are planning to stay with YTTV even without ABC/ESPN to try and drive towards an agreement.

Saw an article today on this situation. It mentioned that this standoff getting to 14 days today is now longer then the same DirecTV/ESPN blackout of 13 days in ‘23 and Comcast/ESPN 11 day in ‘22.

What’s the one common denominator between all 3 protracted blackouts?………🤔

nothing compared to the Fox holdout at Direct TV for over a year ...that's why I switched to YTTV. Did it ever go back?

Well, I just did a stupid. Was screwing around in my account management preferences trying to figure out how many months were left on that $10 off for six months promo. I hit pause membership assuming that there would be an ARE YOU SURE? screen. There was not. Just shot me a message that says your account is paused for two months. I reactivated it immediately and it stuck me back at $82.99. It cancelled the discount I was getting and I wasn’t sure what would happen to the $20 credit.

So I bravely entered the world of customer support chat to see if anything could be done. I don’t know whether I was talking to a human or a bot, but whoever it was said, I only had one month left on that promotion and they could offer me a free week instead, which is actually a better value. And my $20 credit will just be applied to next month’s cycle, which now starts a week later.

tl:dr. YouTubeTV’s customer service doesn’t suck.

I hit up support after discovering my Sunday ticket auto renewed and my normal subscription was on a separate email. They refunded the ticket and told me to resub on the other email. I got the first time subscriber rate to boot. Pretty easy stuff.

However, the question of how much to pay for Disney’s ancillary non-sports networks, such as Freeform, FX and National Geographic, remains an obstacle, according to sources briefed on the conversations between the two media giants.
Disney negotiates all of its carriage agreements as a bundle package combining ESPN’s slate of networks, its ABC-owned affiliates, Disney Channel, FX and Freeform. Distributors have complained that Disney has been able to foist these extra channels on them, while Disney counters that they are all discounted as part of a bundle.

Either way, YouTube TV has shown little interest in doling out money for the programming that fewer people watch, with kids’ programming and drama increasingly moving to streaming services. Disney+, the company’s own direct-to-consumer product, offers a large array of kids’ programming
Link. More reason why I'm on Team YouTube here - I don't want ABC's second-tier channels.

This is the same issue with spectrum cable I posted earlier

"On September 11, the dispute ended, returning The Walt Disney Company channels to Spectrum. As part of the deal, Disney+ and ESPN's future direct-to-consumer service will be provided to Spectrum TV Select subscribers, and ESPN+ will be available to Spectrum TV Select Plus subscribers.[18] However, Baby TV, Disney Junior, Disney XD, Freeform, FXM, FXX, Nat Geo Wild, and Nat Geo Mundo were not restored.[19"

While the main FX channel was restored, its sister channels FXX and FXM were not part of the initial agreement reached in September 2023.
However, a new expanded agreement announced on June 26, 2025, confirmed that FXX and FXM would be returning to the Spectrum lineup at no additional cost for Spectrum TV Select customers, along with the ad-supported version of Hulu and several other channels.

Wasn't FX a fox station at one point? Lol

I feel like a Venn Diagram of the people who complained about all the second tier, non sports channels on cable and the people quitting YTTV because they won't agree to add in the second tier, non sports channels would just be one circle.

My local ABC affiliate isn't available to me right now; the others (ESPN, FX, Disney etc) seem to be back

Currently on hold with the big Y customer service for quite a while now

So, many of us got $10 off YTTV for 6 months and a $20 credit in exchange for missing about 2 weeks of ABC/ESPN/Disney programming?

Worth it.* :hifive: I look forward to their next blackout.

* Not sure if this means there will be a future price increase.
