Zack Wilson Biggest Bust Since Jamucous Russell (1 Viewer)

It's over for Wilson. No wishes and positive thoughts can help at this point. Hopefully he graduated with a good degree because the NFL is not his calling.

I feel bad for the young man, though.

Him and the next guy drafted (Lance) may battle for that title if production is the ultimate determining factor. At least the Jets didn’t burn a ton of extra draft capital to get there. Lance obviously has not had the opportunity to fall on his face on the field as much as Wilson, but it is possible that he doesn’t even get that chance at this point.

$35.1MM guaranteed plus a chance to kick around as a backup QB for a few years at least. He’ll be alright if he doesn’t squander the money like so many young athletes (really kids coming into massive sums) do.

Wasn’t long ago a different Jets QB was lighting up the league for another team after he was forgotten about so who knows.

Yeah, for sure. 35.1 million is nice consolation prize.

He's absolutely terrible! They gave the second overall pick his chance. He's done and out of the league. Someone will likely take a chance on developing him. Good luck with that. My boy Garrett Wilson takes a big hit with him at the helm. Another QB comes to mind - Ryan Leaf. I think Zach Wilson is ,much worse.

I'm sure those in SF leagues wish they hadn't spent at top 1st round pick on him, but rather had drafted a RB or WR. You're going to get a couple more of those in this year's draft with Anthony Richardson and possibly Will Levis. You know, where your next Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen are waiting. ;) Good luck with that.

I remember Detroit radio was all over drafting Wilson.

When I watch Wilson he does have talent and might be decent one day. Wilson seems like the type of QB that would have benefitted from sitting 2-3 years, maturing, learning the NFL game. Right now Wilson will probably never make it in NY.

When i watched the Lion-Jet game no players on the Jets even came over to Wilson when he got sacked or made a bad throw to give him a pat on the back, they totally ignored him on the sidelines for the most part. WRs openly threw their hands up and shook their heads with bad passes. That was telling on his status with his teammates.

Wilson just doesn’t seem like a Saleh type of guy. He must have done a heck of a job selling himself during the draft process.
There have been several stories that Saleh and Joe Douglas were never on the same page with the drafting of Wilson. To what extent I’m sure we’ll never know.

Yeah, he will definitely be on another team next year, not sure how big the discount will have to be to unload him. QB White was the only player talking to him, he seems like a good guy to keep around.

While it is easy to second guess on a message board this shows just how difficult the process is finding a legit QB...it is not just physical tools but mental toughness, intelligence, leadership and the ability to deal with the media (for some teams/markets this is very important) when it comes to this position...add in the fact that rookie QBs are now judged very harshly beginning their rookie year and things have gotten that much more complicated...some QBs are ready to play right away and others would benefit sitting a year (or two) before they take over...right now there appears to be a one size fits all approach and in many cases and that is not the best approach.

That being said Wilson is not good...when I watch him, I just don't see much to hang your hat on and off the field he doesn't appear to be any better...overall, this kid is just an awful fit for a market like NY so his faults are that much more apparent...the Jets have no choice but to move on because he could not be a worse fit for where the rest of the franchise is...for Wilson, he needs to go to a place with a legit offensive mind, sit for a while, learn and hopefully mature so when he gets another opportunity he may do something with it.

You guys know his family owns Jet Blue, right? I don't t think he'll starve.

His actions on the sidelines are very strange to me. Almost every QB in the league is either engaged with teammates, talking to OC, looking at pics/tablet - when they come off the field.

Zach always seems to be standing alone... like a kicker that just shanked a game tying PAT.

I don't know how his teammates feel about him but if he is disliked and he sucks, well then, that's a one-way ticket out of town probably. He may not get the chance to be a late bloomer with the Jets.

Doesn't look good. But people really like dunking on him, huh?
Especially during this age of the NFL. Back before the war teams used to groom QBs, sometimes up to 5 years, and I must say that was a good thing. I believe most QBs coming out of college need 2 or 3 years to develop, but with all the $$$ they are making and the impatience of people in general these days, a lot of QBs are ruined early.

I’m not sure why this needed it’s own topic when there’s already a Zach Wilson topic with people ripping him to shreds.

Maybe merge the topics and keep this title?

Lance has not fallen on his face at all. He does not belong in this conversation.

Ryan Leaf absolutely roasts this Jets fan:

“I’ve had a better life then Jets fans the last decade and I spent 3 of those years in prison, respectfully of course.”

Still don’t understand how Fields was not consensus 2 behind TL
NFL teams were seriously outsmarting themselves. Lions, Chargers, Bears and a couple other teams got some serious values in that draft. No way Wilson or Lance should have gone ahead of Fields or 2 near sure fire plug and play OTs.

Yup - I posted that to the game topic last night. It’s a hilarious exchange - I love that they both use “respectfully”

No idea how accurate the stuff Leaf was talking about was, but it made me like him more. Sounds like a guy who's been humbled and is trying to do some good in the world

I saw a some show he was on a couple years back - he is definitely in a better place these days.

I think a lot of times we're trained to hate people and then, years later, we realize they may not be the same person they were back then, or maybe the hate went too far from the beginning. I remember when I heard that Matt Millen was sick, and it was like, sure, he was an incompetent GM of my favorite team, but I don't have anything against the guy personally. Leaf was an entitled SOB who wasted his career, but it's not like he ever did anything to me. I'm glad for his sake that he appears to have turned things around.

Makes me wonder if I'll ever get to that point with DeShaun Watson. Will be much harder, given that he actually hurt people, refuses to admit it, and rather than being forced to suffer for his misdeeds, he got a fully paid year off, was traded away from the league's worst franchise, and then got the biggest guaranteed contract in NFL history. But check back with me in 20 years and I'll let you know.
