Fox website is really burying this Flake thing. On the main page, all I see is an editorial saying "Flake is everything people hate about politicians." On the politics page, Flake's comments are story #9 buried under things like "CNN's Jim Acosta should be kicked out our the WH press corps" and "Comedian Trevor Noah questions Trumps health."

Also, who is that reporter in the first row of the press briefing with the brunette hair and brown boots? She's

Would it have changed anything?  There was video/audio of him talking about grabbing women's delicates and moving on someone.  And the women accusing him of sexual misconduct included several from the past 10-15 years.  At least this one was consensual.
I'm torn because it really does seem kind of trivial.  But I know that it would not be regarded as so for literally any other President or candidate.  Maybe this represents a sea change that will apply to everyone.  Gary Hart is just waiting to spring back into national prominence.  Sorry, John Edwards, your behavior was still too creepy.

Funny how not long ago the Republicans didn't think this kind of behavior was trivial. They were demanding to impeach a President over it.

But now?

All good.

That's a stretch.

Even if we assume the actual charges for perjury and obstruction were just cover, BIll was not being impeached over a consensual affair from before he was a candidate.  We elected him knowing he had an affair with Gennifer Flowers.  He had sex in the Oval Office with a White House intern.  I think that's grosser even if you put a high gross-out score on Trump's partners being porn stars.

I guess it's not all that surprising but I still can't get over the fact that Trump cheating on his pregnant wife with a porn star and then paying her six figures in hush money and Fox News burying the story before the 2016 election isn't bigger news.

As has often been said, imagine if the roles were reversed and Barack cheated on Michelle with a porn star while Michelle was pregnant and had just given birth to their child, and then paid her hush money, and then CNN had the story and buried it before an election so as not to harm Obama's chances.
Doesn't make it right, but I think they would bury it

Don't think it's a stretch at all. Republicans were up in arms about Clinton's cheating. Hell, many of them continued to harp on it during the election as a means to attack Hillary for standing by him.

But now? Silence. Nothing but silence.

Yup.  Still waiting for the first Trump supporter to express even an ounce of disappointment in him for it. Meanwhile, Clinton is the biggest pig to ever walk the earth.

The fact this mega-Maga dealmaker also paid this young lady 130K when she had already done an interview is hilarious to boot.

Legitimately kinda bums me out that you think this.  Says a lot about how low we've gotten in terms of partisanship and Trump's campaign to undermine the press.

It's not true by the way. They'd absolutely run it and wouldn't hesitate for a second. I can't say that with 100% certainty, but fairly close to it. I have some friends in the political journalism. Plus the "fake news" media breaks stories that hurt Dem candidates all the time. The NY Times ran this hilarious report a week before the 2016 election.

I'm thinking he's running for president, assuming Trump is still in office in 2020.

I suspect that due diligence over what Daniels had said would likely have fallen to Cohen or whatever other lawyer represented Trump in the matter.  As would negotiation of the settlement fee (Trump would need to approve, but $130K seems completely reasonable, and even low, to me, depending on whether Trump was already considering a serious run for office).

Cognitive dissonance.

It kind of makes sense actually. The true believers, deep down, they wanna be Trump. They wish they had tons of money. They wish they didn't have to be PC. They wish they were so powerful they could threaten people with nukes. They wish they were so famous that they had a hot wife and still cheat on her freely.

Trump is the goal. The embodiment of the American Dream.

i am able to see the cnn news coveraage of the press conference today and the guy basically says that foreigners commit foreign terrorism acts in the usa does anyone know if this includes domestic terror acts or is that like a totally separate report or thing take that to the thanks in advnace bank brohans
In next week's episode of Obvious Stats to Rile Up the Base (OSRUB):  Blacks commit the vast majority of black-on-black crimes!

In general, major media outlets aren't in the habit of risking having big stories broken by their competition.

I can't rule out that Fox was unable to confirm details to their satisfaction.  Or that they might not have wanted to be extra careful both because of worries about their audience and sensitivity to the fact that Trump is incredibly litigious.

But if someone believes that CNN or the NYTimes or whatever would sit on a major story about a sitting President of major candidate for political reasons, it would be nice to hear the basis for that belief beyond some gestalt feeling of "media bias."

Others had the FBI story that  the Times printed, right?

Apparently only Fox had the story they withheld , right?

I think if ONLY cnn or msnbc had a story that would've hurt hurt Hillary pre election they would've sat on it.

Maybe I'm wrong, who knows?

No I believe only the Times ran that FBI Trump story.

I think you're wrong, and I'm confident that most people who live and work around politics and/or media on either side of the aisle would agree with me.  As far as I know CNN has never buried a story that later came out- even a google search resulted in CNN stories about burials instead of right wing blogs calling them out.  Doesn't prove much, but it's something. Anyway, like I said, it just bums me out that things have gotten to this point. A good rule of thumb is that is Trump is pushing something (in this case that everyone but Fox is hopelessly biased and "fake news") the opposite is probably true.

Something I thought interesting is that Cohen was prepared to whip this out - he obviously had Ms. Clifford prepare these in advance of their agreement. So there it is written in some weird 90s Apple font and a signature from "Stormy Daniels" not "Stephanie Clifford" and it came from Cohen, not her.

I'd like to just add that I see absolutely nothing wrong with having an affair with a pornstar or paying her to keep quiet.

If I won powerball I'd gladly pay to eat the best food, take the best vacations, drive the best car, and have the best sex.  It's absurdly American that we believe in capitalism, social Darwinism, etc, but get so incredibly hung up on sex.

They still wouldn't care.
With this said, do you think there might be a point where Pence makes some sort of rebellion?  Even if it's symbolic?  It's hard to tell, but his religious beliefs, creepy as they seem to me, also seem sincere.  Even with all the "servant theology" stuff and the idea that God can choose an imperfect vessel to execute His plan, you'd think that there could come some time where enough is enough.

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz defended Trump's alleged criticisms of Haiti: “I would not pick those terms but I would say that the conditions in Haiti are deplorable... Everywhere you look in Haiti it's sheet metal and garbage when I was there.”

He's missing the point entirely.
So, when was Gaetz in Haiti to observe this (ignoring the fact that some on this board would call his statement pure hearsay, since he doesn't have video to prove it)?  Did he choose to vacation in a s***hole country?  Or did he participate in some junket to assess the damage from the hurricane that slammed Haiti?  Not that that would explain why there was sheet metal and garbage everywhere.
