Sinking ship. No reason to damage what appears to be a rising career within the GOP.

It sounds like Ayers were perfectly willing to stay on the sinking ship for a little while, but Trump demanded a 2-year commitment. When Ayers declined that request, the #### hit the fan and now suddenly Ayers is gone.

What I want to know is: did Trump say "Give me 2 years or you're fired", or did Ayers say "Give me flexibility or I quit"?

It just seems strange to me that Ayers is suddenly not interested in returning to his old job.

If I had to guess - he knows who the replacement is going to be if he doesn’t take it and wanted no part of it.

Ayers went from "meeting with Trump to negotiate terms of the COS job" to "quitting in 3 weeks" in the span of about 30 minutes.
The focus now turns to other candidates to fill Kelly’s shoes. Among the people Trump is actively weighing, or has mentioned as possibilities, are Republican Representative Mark Meadows, chairman of the conservative Freedom Caucus; U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer; budget director Mick Mulvaney and Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, according to several people familiar with the matter.
Meadows and Whitaker are the ones left on this list since it was last updated oh an hour ago.

I am in the process of interviewing some really great people for the position of White House Chief of Staff. Fake News has been saying with certainty it was Nick Ayers, a spectacular person who will always be with our #MAGA agenda. I will be making a decision soon!

I wonder if Pence, or Mother, had any say in Ayers future as VP chief of staff...or are they scared to stand up to Trump for fear of being dumped from the ticket?

He's really slipping with the "Fake News" thing, since even Fox News said Ayers was the top choice and that Trump would be making an announcement in a matter of days, and Fox even cited an early report from the Wall Street Journal naming Ayers as the likely replacement.

There's been some recent light Twitter buzz about Jerry Falwell Jr's Miami Hostel and speculation of how it might've been involved (via Cohen's help) with Falwell's odd backing of a misogynist woman chaser that's likely never been to church for the 2016 Presidential campaign.

Mostly based on this buzzfeed article (from May).

There might be a little smoke here, but so far it mostly seems to be twitter folk getting carried away with the words "Jerry Falwell Jr", "personal relationship" and "Miami pool boy" in the same article. Awesome as that might be, I haven't seen anything that really suggests what folks may be hoping for.

People seem to be digging for some Cohen black mail here.

Most likely all that amounts from this story is the hypocrisy of the President of the nation's leading Evangelical college (with very strict codes of conduct) buying a Miami hostel the openly encourages all the things Liberty University disallows (heck, Liberty/Falwell is the reason my own city can't have a strip club). And maybe some tax implications of a "non-profit" University's role in buying it.

With good reason because Ayers was a big Jarvanka ally.  It’s simple....Ayers didn’t bow to the king so he was beheaded.
I think more-likely is the fact that Ayers is considered an up-and-comer in the GOP and he's seeing the way the investigation is obviously headed and wants to distance himself from Trump as fast as possible. I'm not sure any Trump associates will survive once the sh** hits the fan. This is going to get very, very ugly. And it will be interesting to watch the reactions of GOP officials. Who quietly sleeks away, who is vocal about it and acts like he never really supported the guy, and who will actually stick with him. Ayers probably doesn't want to see his promising career come to an end in a year or two.

interesting with respect to Ayers...his claim to fame seems to fundraising

When the report hit about his tens of millions of dollars his ties to Russia through the church were suddenly exposed and he knew things became too hot so he’s getting the #### out before anyone knows what is really going on with him.

Trump is becoming quite the trailblazer:

Meet the Bottomless Pinocchio, a new rating for a false claim repeated over and over again

To accurately reflect this phenomenon, The Washington Post Fact Checker is introducing a new category — the Bottomless Pinocchio. That dubious distinction will be awarded to politicians who repeat a false claim so many times that they are, in effect, engaging in campaigns of disinformation.

The bar for the Bottomless Pinocchio is high: The claims must have received three or four Pinocchios from The Fact Checker, and they must have been repeated at least 20 times. Twenty is a sufficiently robust number that there can be no question the politician is aware that his or her facts are wrong. The list of Bottomless Pinocchios will be maintained on its own landing page.

ETA:  List of Bottomless Pinocchios

He'll end up being his own CoS.  Or one of his dopey kids.

he effectively is anyway but it just takes whatever little guardrail there was out of the equation...and listening to people like Tillerson speak when they are out of office it's scary just how corrupt and clueless Trump really is.  Laws, norms, truth don't matter at all...it's all about him and his brand at all times...not the people of this country, our American ideals or our future.

Only because Joffrey was underage and preoccupied.

Now imagine Joffrey in his 70s, yet no wiser and just as petulant, ignorant, and cruel. Would you be Hand to that?
If I thought I could control hm, sure.

However, as evidenced by his continual Twitter use with reckless abandon, Trump, unlike a child/Joffrey, cannot seem to be controlled by anybody.

If Joffrey had twitter it would have been a real mess. Trump would be in better shape without Twitter as well.

You know what's incredibly sad and disheartening?

If you were in a coma for the last 2 years and awoke today, reading the recent headlines and seeing a summary of what's going on right now, you'd be convinced that impeachment proceedings would begin tomorrow.

However, after so many reports of "well, THIS is finally the piece that will break it all and bring him down" and just watching absolutely nothing happen, even after these latest developments, I won't believe anything will come out of this until it actually does.

This government is a complete disgrace.  And, by the government, I mean the Republican controlled Congress that continues to support this lying, traitorous coward we call our President.  I only hope he spends his last days in prison where he belongs.

No doubt.  But I'm pretty confident in my guess that Tywin would have shut that #### down because he knew how to control Joffrey to the extent necessary for Tywin to achieve his ends.

Clearly nobody can control Trump.  I imagine people like Kelly and even Sanders have had to beg and plead with him to at least let his Twitter be screened.  And it hasn't happened despite the strong backlash against his Twitter.

Curious other problems were a focus of the Republican House last Friday? Oh that's right, questioning Comey on HRC emails.

Have we ever discussed his thoughts on exercise?

After college, after Trump mostly gave up his personal athletic interests, he came to view time spent playing sports as time wasted. Trump believed the human body was like a battery, with a finite amount of energy, which exercise only depleted. So he didn't work out. When he learned that John O'Donnell, one of his top casino executives, was training for an Ironman triathlon, he admonished him, "You are going to die young because of this."

Just like Howard Sterns mom.  “You should only do one thing per day”

Republicans in a nutshell:

Manu Raju‏ @mkraju 1h1 hour ago

Hatch dismisses allegations of Trump crimes over hush money. Asked if he had any concerns, Hatch said: “The Democrats will do anything to hurt this president.” Told it was alleged by SDNY, Hatch told me: “Okay but I don’t care; all I can say is he’s doing a good job as President”

Hatch added this when asked if he was concerned about allegations. “No because I don’t think he was involved in crimes but even then, you know, you can make anything a crime under the current laws; if you want to you can blow it way out of proportion you can do a lot of things.”

Hatch also told me: “President Trump before he became president that’s another world. Since he’s become president this economy has charged ahead. ... And I think we ought to judge him on that basis other than trying to drum up things from the past that may or may not be true.”

Grassley, the Senate Judiciary chairman, similarly dismisses the federal prosecutors’ argument: “They based it on what a liar says, so it hurts the credibility of it.”

Bulldozers are expected to tear through a protected butterfly habitat tucked along the Rio Grande to make way for President Trump’s border wall after the United States Supreme Court brushed off legal challenges from several environmental groups.

This project contains waivers on multiple laws, not just environmental.
