Is 60 minutes show unbiased anymore?

Your attempt at an analogy is quite literally backwards.

Cuba, Russia, and North Korea would not have allowed their version of "60 Minutes" to air content that was critical of government leadership, and they would not have censored pro-government content on YouTube/Twitter/Facebook/etc.

Your attempt to turn this around is backwards.  My original point is the media only speaks from the left.  What percentage of the media lean left?  Next week on 60 minutes is top gun joes favorite ice cream flavor, child prodigy pianist from Mexico and the covid vaccines are coming soon.

dude just accused 8 different posters of being blind and incapable of seeing the truth.

in part because we rely on 8-10 sources of news which don't include Fox news.

solid work.

People refuse to see that media leans heavily left which means that what you consume for information.  What percentage of the media leans left ?

Essentially yes, you tube, Twitter, Facebook, news outlets except fox all speak same voice.  Welcome to Cuba, Russia, North Korea etc comrade.

How would you feel about a Biden administration official doing an interview on a Russian govt-owned TV network?   Would that worry you?

Funny, I must have missed the day in economics class when they defined socialism as based on what information the media provides. And, for the record, there's no such place as north Vietnam.

60 Minutes was never unbiased

People only choose to get pissy with shows/channels when it challenges their world view.  This obsession with media is probably one of the most fascinating things I've watched in the last 10-15 years.

Exactly.  I posted this thread here with not a single reply as to why we are seeing what we are seeing.  We're going through quite the psychological experiment.  It has virtually nothing to do with political policy or ideas.  It's a social ####show we are watching.

Another example of someone having no idea what socialism is, but knowing that anything they disagree with is socialism.

That word does a lot of work nowadays, the definition could be pages long at this point.

Yep.  Case in point:  a doctored video of Biden “saying he is in the wrong state” got over a million views.  And based on my FB feed, most of the million viewers are my family and friends in Wisconsin.

I was actually thinking about things that mattered - like climate change and the medical science of Covid.  The facts are inherently liberally biased because conservatives have chosen to stop believing in science.

There’s only 1 person saying this, he’s said very soon since April and he certainly isn’t left.  So again your struggling with your points. If the media only speaks form the left, and this isn’t a left talking point, how can this be?

While I think Fox news and other right wing programs are pretty freaking nutty, the run up to this election has definitely opened my eyes to the fact that the "left leaning" news organizations (which I used to consider fair and unbiased) aren't innocent either (in terms of being intentionally misleading)

I've seen several examples of CNN's twitter page posting what have to be intentionally misleading headlines about police shootings and the follow up investigations. And I can't think of any other reason they would do this other than to rile up people who are too lazy to click on the actual article and read the actual facts.

The most recent example: back on the 22nd, they posted.....A judge dismisses the third-degree murder charge against ex-officer Derek Chauvin in George Floyd's death

You had to open the actual article to actually read that 3rd degree murder was the least serious charge and that the more serious charges (which I believe were 2nd degree murder and manslaughter) were still on the table. They went back and corrected the headline later (to clarify that the other charges were still pending) but based on the early comments on the tweet (by people who believed that all he was now going to walk), the damage was already done.

To me, that's incredibly irresponsible journalism and, in this day and age when idiots believe everything they read on the internet, incredibly dangerous as well.

The perception of media bias is often biased itself. That is, you see what you want to see.

Many people often see opinion pieces by the WSJ (which leans right) or the NYT or Washington Post (which lean left) and it colors their view on the stance of where their actual news journalism lies, despite the fact that these outlets tend to be fact-based only in their reportage.

For me, while NPR leans left, their actual news reporting is (in my mind) very fact based and fair. BBC and Reuters are good sources of unbiased journalism IMO.

The majority of the MSM definitely leans left. That being said, is cable news still the major platform for the future? AT&T just announced they will try to sell CNN. The Big Mouse is cornering off ESPN ( which made a massive push to woke up/go full lefty at the sports crowd)  and it looks like cable in general is going to take some hits.

This is one possible advantage of conservative news, they are forced onto social media platforms/mobile platforms which might be the future of news.

Vice through HBO was very interesting, it was like a modern version of street level 20/20 but it too got mainstreamed.

I don't believe most accessible news is "fact based", I think it's constructed to be click bait/shock marketing while riding the line of doing just not enough to actually get sued for something.

Conservative oriented news suppression happens because the radical left ( which the DNC won't stop because they need their votes and money) makes conservatives look moderate in comparison. Candace Owens sounds very rational ( she's got those crazy psychopath eyes though..) when she's denouncing the most ridiculous parts of the woke/cancel culture.

The MSM isn't the biggest factor, it's the American workplace. Obviously COVID19 changes everything, but the woke/cancel culture in the workplace will do more to drive more undecideds and moderates to the right than any broadcast. What Expensify did was a test marker of the problems of politicizing the workplace ( CEO email blasted 10 million people, many who were not actual clients of them but only existed on lists via their employers. He did so with the approval of 2/3rds of 19 of his top "performers" in a company of 140. Since some of his emails went into Europe, he violated the GDPR and it's clear he was trying to use shock marketing to push his brand )

When the wokeness invaded sports, movies, TV, books, music, news, shopping malls, general mail, everywhere, it's just going to drive people to conservative outlets.

You don't win hearts and minds by cornering people and demanding silence or submission. There is a growing platform that's being monetized by Steven Crowder, Tim Pool, Ben Shapiro, Candace Owens, Hodge Twins, Outkick, etc and it's becoming larger for a reason.

The make or break point will be 2024. The cancel culture will have four years to spread more out of control and then will have to contend with Dan Crenshaw.  You can't cancel a Navy SEAL and Ivy Leaguer who gave his eye fighting for America. The liberal MSM will try it and it will create a massive backlash against the major media pundits. The DNC won't be able to stop the radical elements from going woke on Crenshaw and the end result will mean the loss of the military vote and the law enforcement vote full stop. This will cause a ripple effect on lower level elections that spin red instead of blue.  No one can control the mob, ancient Rome figured that out first and no one will stop the mob from shutting down all the socialist leaning Democrats.

It won't look like the DNC hates Dan Crenshaw, it will look like the DNC hates America and freedom. The MSM will be part of that liberal echo chamber that will think it's a good idea until they realize it's blown up in their faces.

It's not news anymore, it's "political porn" and the DNC doesn't realize in 2024, through self inflicted horrible strategy, they will be the featured guest in bukkake party.

Literally TL;DR.

I made a good effort to try and read it but this is so fragmented and (from what I could get through) unclear whether you are responding to something specific in my post. I honestly can't make out the point you are trying to make.

If you are serious about dialogue and not just focused on schtick, can you boil this down to two sentences that concisely lays out your point?

I'm going to be fair about this. In 2016, Trump had no chance of matching Hillary Clinton's financial war chest and her general fund raising powers. She moved more money for the DNC in her cycle than ever before. His only chance was to generate as much "unpaid media coverage" as possible and he got a historic 2 billion dollars plus worth of it.

Trump's high level trolling/carpet bombing/relentless attacking style was actual political strategy. It also naturally suited his personality, his narcissism and his established celebrity persona/image/brand.

Trump INVITES "Orange Man Bad" because it builds his political brand. "Make America Great Again" generating controversy builds his political brand. He treated political marketing like selling jeans and burgers and it worked in 2016 and almost worked in 2020.

Trump ASKS for it. He has to eat the whole meal in that regard. However people like Tim Pool, Steven Crowder, Ben Shapiro and others don't ask for it.

Orange Man Bad has forced many conservative leaning media pundits into non traditional mediums and platforms. And if "news" and even political porn is naturally trending this way as major outlets, this offers an unintended advantage to the conservative minded.

The idea of "unbiased news" might shift to larger questions on whether areas of free speech need specific logistics to simply not be censored. These are real and current complex issues and real and current struggles for the future.

Of course those who lean liberal here can be care free about it, they don't need to open those "can of worms" since their speech direction is largely unchecked by the CURRENT media establishment. What none of you are asking is what happens if one day it's not?  Then that can of worms doesn't get opened, it just gets used to batter your free speech into the ground. The day you finally ask the question might the day it's too late to save anyone's free speech.

lotta "hear hooves? guess 'zebra'" thinking in here.

gotta quote myself. from 12-9-18 "How we fix the news" thread in TPF:

Quote

Sorry that creativity is liberal, humor is liberal, cogent & colorful use of words is liberal, arts are liberal. Sorry that there are no conservative arts colleges, that schmoozing, harumphing and crystal cathedral architecture aren't majors. Sorry that Dickens didn't tell stories from the bankers' POV, that Beethoven dedicated a symphony to Napoleon instead of Adam Smith, that slaves didn't write blues songs to help their masters deal with how depressing whippin' folk can get. Sorry that most of the people want the story, not the story as laundered through a perspective and the perspective of those who tell stories well is generally & naturally expansive. That's just the free market of ideas at work, wouldn't you say?

Although I'll say this to seems like it's been a thing forever. Still is.

Former (as of 2 weeks ago) head of election security Krebs will be on 60 Minutes this Sunday.

Quote

“All votes in the Unites States of America are counted in the United States of America. Period,” Krebs said, in an excerpt broadcast on CBS Evening News. The full 60 Minutes interview will air on Sunday. Krebs was fired by Trump on Nov. 17 after calling the election the “most secure in American history.”

“There’s no evidence that any machine that I’m aware of has been manipulated by a foreign power,” Krebs said, calling such allegations “farcical claims.” He added: “The American people should have 100% confidence in their vote.”

More liberal media bias.

That last line of mine is

:sarcasm:for those who missed it.
