THE FBG Fashion Thread :style: (2 Viewers)

Since I tend to sweat in the heat, I can't wear jeans tomorrow. Can I wear a solid grey T-shirt and khaki shorts? Or a polo shirt solid or Print? If so, what kind of footwear, grey New Balance running shoes, Tevas, or Flip fops? I can't wear white tennis shoes because they will get ruined in the sand/dirt horseshoe pits? Should I wear a navy blue red sox hat or no hat at all?
Bumped a previous post above for ya' GB.I'd go for the solid grey T-shirt over the polo. Keep it simple and casual in the summer...especially for a cookout and horseshoes.Footwear out of those choices should be flip flops no doubt. Don't wear Tevas if you're trying to be fashionable. I get it, they're comfortable for milling around the house or whatever...but they just aren't fashionable if that's really something your tryin' to go for..
Why the solid grey t-shirt over the polo? If the guy tends to sweat in the heat won't layering exacerbate the situation?

:goodposting: Might want to avoid layers in the summer and stick to a single rubber band.

I'm just personally not a polo fan...feel they come off as too preppy and uptight looking. I guess the undershirt would help with the sweat, but if you're out in the summer heat than putting on a second layer will probably make you that much hotter so you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't. If he does have sweating issues I'd just take a 2nd t-shirt along with me and change for the night bonfire activities.

Ah I see the confusion..what I meant was go with the solid grey t-shirt INSTEAD of the polo. (not wear it over the top of it...bad wording on my part)

At this time, I don't own cargo shorts and don't have time to buy them. What about these shorts (http://tiny.cc/ipCDN) but in Khaki. Are these shoes acceptable (http://tiny.cc/w56fq)?
Proper working links for all to see:Shorts:

I don't know what to tell ya' GB...if you don't have time to go shopping and that's all ya' got, than that's all ya got. But neither one are OK if you're really trying to do it fashionably.

The shorts are pleated which is a big no-no. If they were flat front (no pleats) than they would be fine.

The shoes are too bulky and too much going on (colors/patterns, etc.) . I'm sure they're extremely comfortable and functionable and that's great but they wouldn't be considered fashionable by many.

Thanks for clearing that up. You mentioned that you dabbled in layering before, so I thought you were advocating it in this situation. I can see layering during other times of the year, but not in the Summer.

Any style tips for this weekend? I am going to a BBQ, Saturday and throwing some horseshoes. What should I wear?
The only fashion requirement that I know of for horseshoes is to make sure that you throw with a beer in your off hand. Do that and you will be ok.

That's fine that you have done it before. But, let's see it done with a photo and examples you provided. I'm trying to learn something here.

I'll get you started. IMO the one on the right is the least attractive of the three women in the photo you provided.
Is it because she drinks too much beer?http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk161/o...ous/Absolut.jpg
Is that you with a grey undershirt? I thought you said white only?

Thanks for fixing the links. If I wear a solid grey T-shirt untucked, it will cover up the subtle pleats and minimize my gut. For the record, I am 5'11" and 195 with a bit of a beer belly.

So instead of the sneakers, what about flip flops or tevas?

The flip flops look like this but navy blue exterior and light blue sole.

See post #706 with my feelings on Tevas. The flip flops you linked to are fine.

I just saw a guy wearing a black t-shirt. On the front it had what was supposed to look like a note-pad. At the top it said "Things to do today". And then it said, in 'handwriting' "Your mom".

Thoughts?

In case you missed it, I have a bit of beer belly. So my free hand is needed for balance and it helps keep the game moving.

Sorry, but you have to hold your beer or you can't play.

Nope, not me. Grey is fine though. My big pet peeve with black undershirts is more with business dress type wear when the guy has black dress pants, with a bright colored button up shirt and feels the need to wear a black undershirt to match his pants. Not needed.Grey undershirts do sometimes work appropriately with more casul outfits with jeans and non-dress shoes.

When in doubt for guys who need to wear undershirts:

Style: V-Neck >>>> Crew Neck (unless have overly hairy chest, than stick with the crew neck, or trim 'er down)

Color: white >> grey >>>> black

My casual wear consists of cargo shorts and t-shirts from 10Ks or local bars along with sandals or running shoes (depending on how much walking I plan on doing) and some framless Maui Jims (thanks, Mad Cow!). What's the verdict?
Summer attire for guys is a tough one for me. I'm not a big shorts and sandals guy personally, but understand that in the summer it's a necessity and when it's hot out comfort is key. Here's what my thoughts would be for your post:

- Cargo shorts are OK to me....just make sure the pockets are somewhat streamlined to the leg...not a big fan of the shorts that have pockets that stick out 4" from the leg and look like you have a bag lunch packed away in there. Also make sure the length is appropriate....my rule of thumb is just below the bottom of the kneecap. When I wear shorts I also tend to go up a size in the waist than what I wear for pants....I personally like my shorts to be a little bit baggier and have a little hang to them compared to pants. A snug fitting shirt with slightly baggier shorts is a solid summer look IMO.

- Personally I'm not a big fan of the marathon, local bar, softball league, Intramural champ T-shirt thing. I feel it comes off as cheap looking. Now, if the shirt has a subtle design or a funny saying or picture or something that's a conversation starter than I'm all for it, but more often than not I'm more of a fan of just a solid color T-shirt (v-neck preferred. Bonus points if the t-shirt looks a little vintage and washed out or faded). More simple and classic.

- Sandals or running shoes are fine. Just be careful with the running shoes....make sure they aren't bulky cross-trainers. Shoes with shorts should lean towards being more of a streamlined "athletic type" looking shoe and keep em simple. All white or incorporating one color is better. Subtle is always better in my opinion.

- Also be careful with the socks when wearing sneakers....I prefer no socks or very short (below the ankle bone height where you can't really see them anyways) if you're the kind of person who gets weirded out by not wearing socks with shoes.

- Thumbs up on the shades!

Visual of what I'm trying to explain...

The only real problem I have here is that people that wear fake vintage t-shirts or ones with "witty" sayings on them should be punched in the face repeatedly. Legit 20 year-old Jax Beer t-shirt =

Brand new faded Miller High Life t-shirt from Target = :facepunch:

I always thought that if you bought a high enough quality shirt, i.e. good quality fabric, an undershirt was unnecessary.

I think this is the first and last time I will ever say this, but thank god I am married and work in the field, so I don't have an office to dress up to go to.

true but you will soon ruin that nice shirt with sweat and pit stains.

He's crazy. How could he possibly know my mom?

Offdee, Is this shirt fashionable/ in style? Would you wear it?

http://tinyurl.com/njdp9o
If this is a real question. Simple answer for both....No.
Now imagine a celebrity is wearing it.
I see a lot of things celebrities wear in magazines, movies, TV, videos, concerts, etc. every single day that I'm not a fan of and would never attempt or consider. The things that I see that I think look good, aren't always mainstream and fit with my personal style and comfort level than I may give it a go. I don't wear things that I don't like just because a celebrity wears it. I post pictures of celebrities here for visual examples....if they weren't pics of well-known celebrities than everyone would just sluff it off as some random model forced to wear it for a photo shoot or some idiot who has no idea what fashion is anyways. These celebrities I post pics of have clothing lines named after them or own them outright and are surrounded by top designers and stylists every day of their life (and in turn also considered the most stylish men in america by numerous publications year after year)

A wolf shirt would consitute something that I wouldn't ever wear regardless of who wears it and how "in" it may be.
To follow up on this post….visuals of things from celebrities who's style I normally respect but would never attempt any of this myself:Wouldn’t wear beat up boots with a suit:

Wouldn’t cuff up my jeans this much:

High cuffs again. (do like that jacket a lot though)

Wouldn’t wear nerd style glasses (and yes, this is starting to be a big upcoming trend)

So, what's the verdict on plaid shorts for guys? I'm not a huge shorts guy in the first place and just can't bring myself to wear plaid shorts.

I could get down with this look I guess. If they are baggier, kind of disheveled and un-ironed and worn with a solid light colored shirt only:

Not terrible, I guess

I'll get you started. IMO the one on the right is the least attractive of the three women in the photo you provided.
Is it because she drinks too much beer?http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk161/o...ous/Absolut.jpg
That is a better photo of her, but I still prefer the woman on the left and the woman in the middle of the original photo.

Plus I'm betting there is some artificial means lifting up her assets, so to speak, in this photo.
They're all hot. pick your poison.A) 24 year old, brunette, dark eyes, tan, big fake chest

B) 26 year old, blonde, petite, smaller chest

C) 37 year old, brunette, light eyes, not-tan, big real chest
I'll take B. Thanks.
Also I have to add if C is 37 years old there is no way she has had any children. I don't consider myself an expert by any means , but I have seen some breasts in my life and that photo suggests some "undergarment" enhancement is raising her assets. Women are crafty creatures and trust me I've been fooled before. The anaolgy I would make is you see a product in a package and it looks great, but somehow when you get it out of the package it doesn't look like you expected it would.

I like a lot of plaid shorts, just no obnoxious colors or patterns. Being taller, most of them are pretty long so it's easy for me to find some that fit right. I bought these not long ago and I like 'em.

just came across a sweet purple rubber band in my desk drawer. First observation (other than the fact that it does look pretty tight on my wrist): the thing reeks of rubber. Hope you didn't shake anyone's hands that night offdee. Fashion or not, you don't want to be known as smelly rubber dude.
Please send a pic of your complete coutfit to offdee immediately for approval. You don't want your sweet purple rubber band to make you look gauche , do you?
I'm admitting to it being goofy now (I get it, I do) but really, last year you didn't know anybody that wore a Livestrong bracelet or something comparable with some words written on it? Hell, NBA players wear them today. All those are are colored rubber bands.http://blog.epromos.com/archives/livestrong.jpghttp://misterirrelevant.com/wp-content/upl...crybaby_big.jpg

I let this post slip by earlier, but I just have to comment on it. I can't believe you are equating a Live Strong bracelet with a rubber band. I think it is more than a colored rubber band or is this whole thread just shtick? You do understand that the Live Strong bracelet was an item created to raise funds for the Lance Armstrong foundation for cancer research, don't you? In fact (someone can correct me if I'm wrong) , but every colored bracelet I have seen supports some charity and is used as a fundraiser. Are people wearing red ribbons to show their support for Aids research and are people wearing pink ribbons to show their support for Breast Cancer research or is everybody just following a fashion trend? Maybe these items do become fashionable to wear, but people purchasing them are supporting the charity and a good cause. People wearing rubber bands are just being wannabes, no?

Simply putting a rubber band on your wrist and saying you are following the trend kind of misses the point of these bracelets in the first place dontcha think? Isn't it equivalent to wearing a knockoff of a designer's clothes? Based on your comments in this thread I wouldn't think you would support that practice.
