YES. Didn't you read the rules!!!!!The tricky part is the 3x scoring for Defenses.
Well sure I read the rules. Just not sure I read the right rules. :whoosh:

BnB, I understand the third defense and the strategy...but 3 before the 13th round is over, I laugh at that.Seriously, to say that dont hurt your team is insane, another runner or receiver would of served your team better, then of all defenses Miami def. the strategy is to be use wisely, not just for meh, i'll take another in round 13.Plus it took you 21 minutes while you were on the whole time to take another defense, and yet you didnt know if they were taken or not, lolJust smackin a bit, lol

You seem to forget that I'm a reigning PDSL champ too. My 3 defenses last year averaged about 17-18 pts/wk. The third D was used often.I don't see much of a difference in the drop at WR/RB between what I have now and will have to pick from next round. Many of the picks in between will be defenses anyway. With 24 rounds and a solid QB/TE, I'll have more WR/RB bench fodder than I can possible us anyway. The thing about the defenses is that once they're gone, you can't add one in the 24th round.

Sup BNB?
BNB was the first clown. He grabbed his third defense & as stated by SR, he might not be the only one planning on taking three. He was my inspiration to take two at the 10/11 turn and now only nine remain.

Here is why its not smart to partake in this strategy.2 defenses fine for a bye, but injuries do happen to individual players on defense, but you know the team defense will always be there. Chances of a RB QB TE or WR going down to injury much much much higher, seems those are a little more of a premium  , again I understand the strategy, but it dont make it a smart one.Now does it make it worth more to have depth for your poitions who risk injury, then eliminating someone early becasue they have 1 or no defenses? If you drafted well and know what your doing, you will outlast them anyways.Sure, its easy to attack what I said because it was a post by Critic, but it does not make it untrue.

DST Report with only two remaining

Sigmond Bloom currently has one defense and likely will have the opportunity to add another as it would take two of the next three adding a third DST to limit him to one.

Andy DuFresne picks two after Bloom so the only way he gets a defense is if only one of the other four teams take one, assuming that Bloom does add a second if he can.

getinthemix looks like he will roll with the Vikings solo as he picks after Andy. If nobody gets another until Andy, then getinthemix will be able to get the last one.

Regardless of how it finalizes, at least two teams and possibly three will have one defense at most. I am not sad that I took two at the 10/11 turn.

I also doubt that Jeff P. will be sad that he took the first kicker at 14.1 as they may be the next "in-pick".

People who take a kicker with almost half the draft to go is insane, just because people jumped the gun dont make it an in pick. all defenses gone before round 14 is over, and kickers already going...and you guys call yourselves sharks, lol

There's some great comedy going on here.

and it is not all from the clowns who took DSTs too early or too often

What a gawd awful team...

1.11 - Stinkin Ref - Aaron Rodgers, GB, QB2

2.06 - Stinkin Ref - Hakeem Nicks, NYG, WR5

3.11 - Stinkin Ref - Peyton Hillis, CLE, RB14

4.06 - Stinkin Ref - Jahvid Best, DET, RB16

5.11 - Stinkin Ref - Jimmy Graham, NO, TE10

6.06 - Stinkin Ref - Tim Tebow, DEN, QB19

7.11 - Stinkin Ref - Terrell Owens, CIN?, WR39

8.06 - Stinkin Ref - Jordy Nelson, GB, WR44

9.11 - Stinkin Ref - Danny Woodhead, NE, RB42

10.06 - Stinkin Ref - Brandon Jacobs, NYG, RB44

11.11 - Stinkin Ref - Jordan Shipley, CIN, WR62

12.06 - Stinkin Ref - Detroit Lions, DST12

QB - Arod a stud, dont really need a #2 when you have him, but Tebow sucks and wont play according to Elway and the coach.

RB - Hillis, Best, Woodhead, and Jacobs...Hillis, too many white running backs man, Hillis is good, but with hardesty he should see a reduction in reps. Best is a Lion running back, they seem to get hurt a ton. Woodhead, he had a good last year because no one planned for him, he is too inconsistant, Jacobs blows.

WR - Nicks, good...but Owens Nelson and Shipley? Your kidding right? Owens, done, Nelson is a white wr not named Welker, and so is Shipley, but is even worse.

TE - Graham, I'm a big fan of his so not bad there, he is the new finley good pick.

Def - Detroit...thats all that needs to be said.

Hey, draft another kicker next round. :rubshandstogether:

All in all, horrible depth lots of risk... I give it a C-

Hate all you like, but its the truth.

One of the better teams...

1.15 - Football Critic - Drew Brees, NO, QB3

2.02 - Football Critic - Steven Jackson, STL, RB11

3.15 - Football Critic - Jeremy Maclin, PHI, WR19

4.02 - Football Critic - Sidney Rice, MIN, WR21

5.15 - Football Critic - Kellen Winslow, TB, TE11

6.02 - Football Critic - BenJarvus Green-Ellis, NE, RB24

7.15 - Football Critic - Cedric Benson, CIN, RB30

8.02 - Football Critic - Hines Ward, PIT, WR42

9.15 - Football Critic - Robert Meachem, NO, WR50

10.02 - Football Critic - Visanthe Shiancoe, MIN, TE23

11.15 - Football Critic - Baltimore Ravens, DST8

12.02 - Football Critic - Vince Young, TEN, QB31

13.15 - Football Critic - Anthony Dixon, SF

14.02 - Football Critic - Jacksonville Jaguars, DST

QB - Stud, easy, again dont need a #2 when you have him...however VY (QB31) will start somewhere, which he was taken after Tebow (QB19), who is not liked by his coackes, lol

RB - Love it as depth and track record. SJax another year older, a ppr hoss, and an everydown back, Ill take it. BJGE and Benson (RB30), one will suck and one will work out, lets hope that happen in staggard weeks. Dixon, he is a backup to a runner with 2 bumb knees and a bumb hip that git hurt virtually untouched, I'll take him even as a reach in round 13.

WR - Maclin, produced as well as DJax, Rice, if people remembered he missed half the season due to injury, he would not of slipped...guy was a stud when he came back. Ward, great #3, and Meachem has high upside.

TE - Winslow, meh...Shiancoe, meh...but together they can produce on any given week.

K - they are kickers too much in the air for them, sorry for the pun.

Def - Baltimore, when reed came back they played well, Ray Lew? dude dont show signs of aging.

Will it get bounced first week, depends on injuries...but as far as the eye test between me and Ref...

NOT EVEN CLOSE, I DOMINATED HIM HANDS DOWN SO FAR.

Over all, I give myself a B+, but that one of the best in this group...sheesh, some bad picks being made.

Happy with Cotchery as WR68... Maybe he went early in WSL2 in the 8th round but, IMO, things only look better for him as it was announced he was injured last year and fought through it.... If BE or Holmes leaves, we're looking at a healthy WR who regains the #2 spot with a QB who should be improving.

One VERY interesting dynamic of these drafts in relation to the NFL is this Hold out and the incredibly long list of players in Limbo.

In a normal offseason i would say the Jets would sign one of Holmes or Braylon and combine that with Cotchery and call it a day But, I just get the feeling that the longer this thing goes on, the more probability it is that players stay put at least for a year and we see a lot of 1 year deals...

Why should a team dish out huge money to a WR when the market will be flooded with guys that I don't even want to name at this point but, we all know. Same goes for RB, seems like a lot of decent RB's in limbo...

Yeah, that flies in the face of me liking the Cotchery pick but, I still think it's great value at this spot even as WR3 but, with the possibility of WR2.

Looks good to me. Set at QB. Lots of talent at RB, should generate some points. Didn't take a hit here despite going QB/TE out of the gate. Feel like I'm ahead of the talent curve at WR, just not much depth. 24 rounds should remedy this. 3 Defenses, check. Kicker, check.

Really like what you've done here. Goodson was a steal and he pairs nicely with DeAngelo. Jackpot if DeAngelo is traded/freed. Even though you don't have major depth at WR, you have nice upside in both your WR2 and WR3 have the potential to produce like WR1 (high WR1 in Collie's case) and Simpson also has a ton of upside for a 10th rounder. I have no doubt you will wisely use the extra picks to buttress the WRs. This team should be in it in December.

Really I think that Basses team has alot of risk up and down the roster. I already said my piece on Finley. Vick is an injury risk Id rather have a safer option like peyton or Brees at QB1 overall. And those RBs are stinky (I love DeANgelo but his situation right now is less than ideal) Austin Collie is very risky.Bass could very well win it, but he needs alot of breaks

Not sure if you read the rules, but Cutler's INTs are no concern.RB - Reggie has produced at RB2 level and better in the past. Ditto M. Bush and Goodson last year when they played behind RBs that get dinged up. Too early to tell where these guys might land. Possible one of them becomes a RB1 somewhere. Basically the startegy is to get guys with talent on my team and hope it works out. Yours seems to be to take average talent like Benson and Law Firm.WR - Moss meh??? Seriously you can do better than this.TE - What if any player gets hurt...you hope the others step up and make do. Finley is no more of an injury risk than any other TE.D - I'll never get through to you on this, but the guys with experience in this format understand.

Agreed...lots of risk. Besides laughing at FC and Hucks when they exit early, no one remembers anyone except the champs. I know this is survivor format so you don't need to be high scorer every week, but in a league with this many experienced owners that are knowledge and understand the format (for the most part save one or possibly two), you have to take some risks to come out on top.Oh...and I don't need lots of breaks, I actually need the absence of breaks, fractures, concussions, etc.

Don't be so down on yourself, there's a 1 in 15 chance that you win.

I remember that I won one year but didn't know it until I was asked to be a captain the following fall. :loco:

Its interesting bass and we probably need twilight to chime in.

How many times has the 3/def thing worked? = Title.

I have gone 1 QB and won it, I have gone 1 K and won it. I only did 1 defense once and flamed out (my first SSL ever).

I get the strategy because you make at least 1 team only have single Def. but does it pay off for the team snaggin 3?

How did mad viking do that time he took 4 defenses???

Irrelevant to compare three defenses to previous drafts. On those, you were limited to 20 picks and with 24 you should be able to cushion your drop off at other positions. It is a definite advantage for all the two DST teams and three DST teams over the one DST teams.

Taking a shot at the original question:Do teams with three defenses have a better chance than those with two (or gasp, one)?First, here's what I did:(Note - bye overlaps are ignored, we're just looking at scores)I used Twilight's scoring site to grab all the scores for the defenses.Average scores (512 scores, 32x16) = 8.1 pointsStandard Deviation = 5.95 pointsWhat that means is that 63% of the scores are going to be within 1 std dev of the average, and 95% of the scores will be within 2.So if I do the math, the teams scoring between 3 and 14 points is 348, which is 68%. Pretty good. Actually those between 4 and 15 is 63%, so we're in the basic ballpark. Now the questions I asked:1. If I have 1, 2, or 3 teams, what are the odds I get 0-4 points for my defense?2. If I have 1, 2, or 3 teams, what are the odds I get 8 or more points for my defense?Answers:1. One team = 37%. Two teams = 14%. Three teams = 5%.2. One team = 42%. Two teams = 66%. Three teams = 81%.Conclusion - you are more likely to both avoid bad weeks (0-4 points) with 3 defenses by almost a factor of three over teams with two, and almost seven times as insulated as a team with one defense.Three defense teams are also nearly twice as likely than teams with one defense to get at least eight points in a given week (81% vs. 42%) and about 23% more likely to do better than two team defenses. That translates to about 12-13 "good" weeks for 3-def squads against 10-11 for 2-def squads (and just 6-7 for 1-def squads). Significant? Quite possibly. It certainly doesn't hurt.

So Just Cuz goes on a rant about kickers being taken early and then proceeds to pick back to back kickers in the two rounds immediately following the first kicker off the board. :wall:

I believe you mean Critic, and if I have to explain why I went kicker kicker, a, you cant read cuz I explained in prior posts the argument, and b, you dont understand how prior picks by someone taking kickers in the 14th round dictated the draft, and since you treat them like gold, i must take one since its 34 picks til it gets to me again. But a shark like you I'm sure knew that already. :wall:

PS Its kickers, they still have never been taken that early.

so what you are saying is.....taking kickers this early is not a good strategy...but then the trick is you actually do do it, and it is like a double secret reverse strategy cause then you get an advantage at other positions by setting them up by saying you weren't....and even though you really didn't get a bunch of value at other positions while everybody was taking kickers....everybody really thinks you did because you said you were...I mean weren't....awesome...

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I said taking a kicker in the 14th was horrible, instead of people knowing its early and not taking one just because Jeff did. One was off the board when Jeff took him in Rd 14, one, not 2, not three....ONE!

The people behind him started to take them, instead of saying "Nah, thats too early to start the run"...they didnt have the thought "thats too early", they had the thought, "Oh, well jeff took, one...I must take a kicker in the 14th."

Taking the kicker run that early in a 24 round draft is beyond not smart, IMHO.

When it got back to me, I had to take the kicker because almost all of you thought it was a good decision to start the run in the 14th. Then by the time it would get back to me in the 17th they would be gone. Yes I did attack people who took kicker, just like they would do at any draft your at. Just because 16 were off the board by the time it got to me in the 15th, a full 2 rounds after the first was taken, I was beyond forced to take one. Why dont you read posts Bass, since you say you do, then you wouldnt have to ask a question.

Jeff at 14.1 took akers

I at 15.15 took Gould...much of a difference in the total scheme, no because Kickers wont determine the best team.

Bass just worry about your gawd awfull team, instead of why I am concerned that sharks are starting the Kicker run in the 14th, lol :boxing:
