He's nailed MLS:

When I asked Zlatan what it will take for MLS to achieve parity with Europe and South America, he responds with a question.

“Do they want to make it?”

“Who is ‘they’?”

“They that control it. The owners. Do they want it to be big?”

“Yeah. Of course.”

“You think?”

“You don’t?”

“I don’t.”

“Why?”

“Because you don’t make money in soccer,” he tells me. “In Europe, I can pick two clubs that make money. The rest don’t; they do it out of passion. Here, with the sports, you make money. That’s it. And I think with all the rules you have here, you are not boosting up the soccer.”

What rules?

“The budget things. The salary cap. You cannot bring in players you want. They have more rules here than I have in my home.”

--------------------------------------

Here, you can lose five games and it’s still, ‘Don’t worry, we are in the playoffs.’ So why even play first eight months of season? No, I don’t accept. To be best, you have to be best every day.

You know, in Euro, if you come in last, you go down to Division 2. That is pressure. ... So last year, we fight for six position to go to playoff, but came in seven.

If we had made sixth position, people would have said we had a ‘good season.’ I say, ‘Fighting for the sixth position? That means we had s—- season!” We need to fight for No. 1, not 6.

I think some people are just upset he speaks so truthfully and then he backs his #### up constantly. The media especially English Journalist love a guy who talks #### and doesn't perform which is why they had such a hard-on when they got to cover Mario Ballotelli for all those yrs. Some of the criticism yes was deserved why numerous other incidents got blown way out of proportion. I've never had a problem with Ibra ever. I think he's underrated in terms of when people talk about best player in the world its always Messi/Ronaldo but you never hear Ibra's name. Maybe that has a lot to do with his country not being a powerhouse internationally but he's up there. He talks a lot and has a lot of bravado but he backs it all up. Then you get to his off pitch character and he has very little if any flaws or negative events people can poke at. The media hates that. What makes a better ratings and page click article? The guy who says what he's gonna do and does it or the guy who talks a lot of #### then doesn't perform? He's won titles at every Club he's been at in the first 2 or so seasons. The only thing maybe you could go after him for is he's never stayed at 1 club for long periods of time.

Some S####horpe from Sevilla just MMAd Larouci.  Straight out kick to the back leg while 3' from the ball.  Straight red and he may have broken the leg.  Can he be suspended due to a friendly?  Like for the season?

Sevilla player should have been off in the first half as well.

ETA:  Klopp on Larouci tackle: "It is much too early in the season to create headlines by saying what I think. It looks like Yasser was lucky but we have to wait a bit. He couldn't keep on playing but in dressing room he looks okay."

Absolutely disgusting. If this doesn't result in a lengthy suspension it's a farce.

WTF
first of all- don't disparage my ####s/irons like this.

part b- did larouci somehow rile them up before that with bad challenge or show-boating? serious wtf either way, but especially so if not.

eta:

Gnagnon tweeted his regret over his actions post-match, which read: "I would like to apologise publicly to the player and to Liverpool. The foul was an odious act, the likes of which should never be seen on a football pitch. My prayers go to the player and to his family."

Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui spoke to Klopp after the final whistle to check on Larouci and admitted Gnagnon knew he'd made an awful tackle and decision.

"I was worried about the player, but I asked Jurgen and he said he's OK," the former Real Madrid boss said.

"Gnagnon was very worried. He knows it was a bad tackle, a bad decision. The most important thing is for Larouci to be OK."

btw... part and parcel of the way the media works, but I'm particularly loving/hating the latest Vela vs Zlat headlines reading like this: Vela hits out at Zlatan: I'm playing better than you

vela couldn't have been more deferential to zlat in his actual comments, but was just pointing out after the Zlat comments that on a statistical level, he (vela) was playing better lately.

"Comparing would show a lack of respect towards him, but if we look at the stats and forget age and whatever, I'm better than him right now, that's the reality," Vela, 30, said after the game.

"And in terms of the rest, he's been Zlatan and only [Lionel] Messi and Cristiano [Ronaldo] are better than him; the rest of us aren't in the same league."

like with politics and everything else, I am convinced there are people who will just see that "hits out" type of headline and run with the intended consequence instead of reading what was actually said amidst the larger picture.

also, I got too drunk and hot yesterday. brain still angry.

That is actually an interesting question.

Who has jurisdiction in a case of a summer friendly between teams from different leagues/countries?  I don't think FIFA does.  Can UEFA make this type of suspension since both teams are with in that umbrella?

I would think either association could and should. FIFA should be able to ban from their sanctioned tournaments, and UEFA from theirs. I think they won't, because they don't care, and because it happened in a game they don't make money off of, or are associated with.

Some far-away vid from the stands after the game with VvD leaning over the boards in front of the Sevilla dugout and letting Gnagnon know what he thought about the tackle.

Just noticed that 538 has ranked the top 636 clubs in the world.  The worst club that made these rankings is the Tacoma Defiance of the USL League.

The Austin Bold, who I don't believe has ever played a game, is ranked 562, ahead of many English clubs in League One including Wimbledon, Blackpool and yes, S####horpe (617).
updated rankings:

510    +105    Scünthorpe

Bold dropped to 572

Funny thing is after Vela's comments everyone was waiting for Zlatan's response, overlooking the fact he preemptively shut Vela down with his at his age I was playing in Europe comment.

And Vela's 2nd goal was offside and VAR failed.  :scared:

I love Zlatan.  Vela and LAFC are one of the few MLS teams I can watch, well when Twellman isnt the announcer anyway.  Its good to have them provide a little bulletin board material.

Pretty sure the problem is they use Errea.  I can find even the small clubs that have kits made by the bigger companies (Nike, Addidas, etc).

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan is looking to sell his 20% ownership stake in LAFC which is being valued at ~$125m

That puts the teams total value at approximately $625m

Someone could have picked up an MLS franchise for $10m pre Beckham...

scroll down past Janssen to Monterey (whoa) for a series of pics of stadia in stunning locations.

iirc, the bhutan one was featured in a doc about a head-to-head game between the two lowest FIFA rated teams in the world... and IIRC further, Thom Rongren was the coach of the other team (US Samoa?).

love the machu-pichu, switz, and castley ones.
here's a vid showing the norway one. love it.

That was probably "Next Goal Wins" a/k/a the greatest soccer documentary in the history of the world.

I've always wanted to visit the Stade Louis II, AS Monaco's home ground.  Its one of the few top level stadiums in the world where most of the players would have difficulty finding affordable housing in the neighborhood.

and while the stadium/location porn was distracting...

Janssen to Monterey?

I know that french guy played for Tigres... but I'm not really used to seeing name-brand euro players going to Mexico. especially Spurs legends like Janssen.

"formerly"
I don't think that even counts - Spurs were bamboozled.

He literally had a good half-season in Eredivisie - he was in the 2nd Division in the Netherlands before that, and with Spurs after that.  7 goals in the first half of the season, then 21 in the 2nd half.  Spurs bit, hook line and sinker.

Usually.

While Jorge Mendes is trying to cop Andre Silva to Monaco which isn't dead but both sides are far apart financially he's offering Milan James Rodriguez for 44M Euros. Gianpaolo needs a Trequista (I think Paqueta can play the role but they need one more guy there) and Rodriquez is still fairly young. He's better then some of the other options being named as well and could really resurrect his career. Mendez is also trying to form a new partnership with Milan like he's done with other clubs in the past.

The other problem is they're Norwich

I was watching when it happened...wasn't much contact, just one of those things. Sucks for him- he was the best player on the field...turned the game upside down when he came on.
"Sorry for disparaging you Mr Bale, please stay and accept this starting spot on the right" - Zidane, maybe.
