I know it's still low, but the fact that his polling went up at all indicates a distressing thing to me: that even beyond his base ( who never abandoned him even at his lowest numbers) there is a percentage of the American public for whom there is nothing beyond the pale.
You have to remember, things are pretty good in America, and just like Obama and Bush and other presidents, people do support their president.

Yeah. There's over 100 people producing over 3,000 pages of posts, just to troll you. And not that it's your perspective that's screwed up.

Congrats. You've figured us out.
Meh.  Tim can crank that out over a long weekend.

Obama was at 56% when he left office. Just to give you an idea of how desperate Trump supporters are right now. They're jumping up and down because he's at 42%.
Trump is going to be at 90% when he leaves office. Why? Cause he is leaving and not going to return. Hell, the world will be happy for that day too.

Interesting.  I genuinely wonder what caused this, given that the economy is (at least hopefully for only a short time) no longer booming. Couple that with the elicit affairs (I mean, that had to lose some religious people), the uneventful budget signing, etc. and I'm not identifying some specific positive that has happened recently. Is there a statistically proven lag in these polls?
I don't get this either.  Nothing even close to what anybody has considered good has happened in the last 2 weeks.

Things have calmed down.  Trump's current news scandals are largely personal, and people really don't care much about those.  Nobody's threatening to nuke the West coast, Trump is mostly just blustering on twitter and not screaming bloody murder, and really no one cares that he had sex with a porn star.  People only marginally care about whether his lawyer broke campaign finance laws to pay her off.

Not yet. When are they planning to meet with Kim Jong-Un again?

Right.  I just find it strange to think these facts as you've accurately stated would cause approval to go up.  I would think they'd simply stay where they were.

He could do nothing and it would go up.  The number was abnormally low to begin with.  Just as if an approval number was like 90%, you would eventually expect to see it come down.  The number is trying to slide closer to the middle of the bell curve as it is most likely a standard deviation or more to the left of it.

I wonder if part of the reason for the rise in his approval ratings are the tariffs. I don’t know how much polling has gone into this, but tariffs tend to be very popular with the general public.

Meh.  Some of them are probably ecstatic that they have 30 more bucks in their paycheck. Not having enough foresight to realize that it's all money we have to pay back eventually.. If not us, then our children.

Trump rises in polls to 42%; highest in 11 months:

The people I'm referring to here are different from Trump's base: they don't like it when Trump says outrageous or offensive things. They don't like his bigotry or incompetence. But none of this is permanent for them. No matter how many bad things Trump does, let him do something they like, or let the economy be good, etc., and they're willing to forgive and forget.
In my moments of doubt and low confidence, I worry about small moves like this, too. 63 million voters had the poor judgment to cast their ballots for him and incumbents are 5-2 in the last fitty years. Including Nixon, for og's sake.

Trump is an abnormally poor president.

Tax time.  My family made out much better than expected on our taxes.  Were we not paying attention to anything else,  we would probably approve of Trump.

Applied to the bedroom and I would be known as history's greatest lover.

I was guaranteed WWIII 15 months ago by all the lefties. I WANT SOME NUKE ACTION DAMMIT!!
15 months ago, I was guaranteed by Republicans: a wall, a travel ban, a transgender ban, mass deportations, the repeal of Obamacare, a soaring stock market, 4% GDP, a 15% corporate tax rate, a 35% middle class tax cut, Hillary in jail, $500 billion of infrastructure spending, the termination of DACA, the end of Common Core, a ban on foreign lobbyists, a 5-year lobbying ban for White House staffers, congressional term limits, reduction in college costs, defunding Planned Parenthood, defunding sanctuary cities, federal child care programs, federal child care tax deductions, a simplified tax system, China labeled a "currency manipulator", and probably a hundred other things not currently on the tip of my tongue, of which exactly none of which have materialized.
