⚽ OFFICIAL GOLD CUP THREAD: United States Beats Mexico. Again. ⚽ (1 Viewer)

I agree on the Busio take above - good, not great.  Kid is 19 and I think would be a great backup at the 6 and even 8 to bring in some energy.  I didn't see anything bad, but I think he looks better because of 19 year old legs and energy.  He will get beat up pretty good against stringer teams but like someone else mentioned, he'd be free to roam when teams are chasing Pulisic and Reyna and bouncing of Dike..
Lots of Busio discussion today in the US thread and some diverse opinions as well.  He should be fun to watch develop.

great game.

I am going to regret this but I think I would rather play CR than Suriname.
Neither one of them is going to lay a glove on us without some crazy luck.  I think the entire Confederation is down right now outside maybe Panama.  Panama and Qatar might be the 3rd and 4th best teams in the tourney.

I love this kid on the right wing.  where does he play?
I don't know if I am looking at the right player but I think he plays on some team called NK Dugopolje in the Croatian second division.

I wonder what his story is, as he looks way too good for that level unless he just had the game of his life tonight.

I'm adding Sargent over Dike to the list of starters that will cause Twitter to lose its mind.

Most of the goals Dike has scored (for Barnsley and the US) just aren't available vs good teams, so his ultimate talent level is still an open question in my book.  Dike's a great story and he's a natural finisher, but, no-trolling, I'd still start Sargent and I bet Berhalter does too.

Having said, #9 is the biggest open spot on the team.  RB and LB (whichever side Dest's not playing on a given day) are questions, but we have answers.  Same with who partners with Brooks at CB -- we have a decent pool to pick from.
Problem is those goals aren't available for Sarge against the women's U9 Martinique team.

I did not watch but I am surprised to see Qatar did not score again after the 46th minute.  This in the one group where GD might make a difference on who comes in second or third.

footy friends ... looking at wagering on both to score this afternoon - very generous odds - Canada has been scoring well thus far, and Martinique snuck one by U.S. last out 🤔

i have checked their recent history vs each other, and 5 of the last 6 would've lost that bet, with 2 scoreless ties in there.

are we feeling this?

or will this be so tight that a 1-0 final seems most likely?

TIA ✌⚽

I am not great at breaking these things down, but lets lay out what we know.

*Canada appears to have a strong offensive game, that runs through Buchanan over lapping on the left.  Cannon is our best defender and he is said to be healthy enough to play (whether he starts or not I don't know) and will match up directly with Buchanon if Cannon plays.

*However, Canada appears very vulnerable defensively.  While they won both games handily, they gave up a ton of chances to both Martinique and Haiti.  Whether the US can take advantage of this may be based on who GGG starts.  We looked rather anemic against Haiti so if GGG trots out the same lineup again, I will be concerned.

* Canada can afford to keep the game tight, since a draw benefits them and not the US

:hifive:

Goff tweeted that kickoff will be at 5:15 ET today
so that means lineups divulged by 4:15 the latest, correct?

Canada is riding an 8 game winning streak while the US is continuing to elongate its all time record of most consecutive wins against Concacaf opponents.

The last time the US lost to a Concacaf opponent it was against Canada so this game is shaping up very nicely.
