Hoppe has been good, but that shot there is how you can tell he's a striker, not a winger.  Gio or Pulisic bring that to the baseline and find a cross or a pass back into the top of the box.  That wasn't a good time to attempt a shot.

It’s a legit question and a long answer that’s been discussed here and elsewhere ad nauseum. Basically, COVID year was weird, difficult scheduling issues, but most agree with the way this was handled.

Young A teamers fighting for spots in best teams in Europe was deemed more important. Plus, WCQ games upcoming

World Cup and Nation's League had our A team...Gold Cup has become less important, but an excellent opportunity to test and develop our depth.  Which will be important for WC qualifying.

It’s because of COVID we played back to back tournaments. The A team played the Nations Cup and are now training with their club teams. Had the Gold Cup been the only tournament we would see the A team.

Euro is just more important because the competition involved is better. If CONCACAF ended up putting in the South American teams it'd be considered Euro Esque as SA has the better FIFA countries.

A) Euro more highly regarded.

B) Euro happens earlier. Those players are in club preseason fighting for playing time - alongside our A team

 
Amazing that Zardes still has that kind of burst with this many minutes logged.  He has always had such a great motor.

So it's up to the individuals then?  US players say they're playing for club?  EU players say they're playing in EU?

And while I'm casually dropping in for expertise... why the hell is Qatar in this thing???

 
Overall, I think the ref has done a good job.  Lots of early fouls on us with several questionable but he’s had control over the match and gotten just about everything right and hasn’t made the game about him.  Well done IMO.

Plus a couple of clubs weren't willing to let their players go. Didn't we find out Dortmund wasn't going to allow Gio to leave for this?

The ref has been the best part of this game. 

 
We're going to PKs aren't we? Yeah because the last two Tourney's my Teams have gone to PK's almost for the cup so why not?
