Marko Arnoutovic gets one game suspension for telling Alioski that: "I'm ####### your Albanian mother" during a goal celebration.
If it was anybody but Alioski I would say that's fair - but Alioski can pound sand, guy is a a little too far over the line of being dirty for my taste.

I know the US v. Swiss was a friendly, but I think US v. Italy in a serious competition would also look about like this.Β  0-3.Β Β

This team is fun to watch.

I could see them susceptible to balls over the top - but they seem to be able to dominate anywhere else on the field.

Looking at the knockout stage - Italy will get Group B runner-up (Russia or Denmark), then presumably Winner of Group C - and then they are in the semis - where they could face the runner-up of France/Germany/Portugal

Its pretty straightforward to the semis - assuming no more injuries to their back line.

Sign me up for a Netherlands-Italy quarterfinal.Β

Best teams thus far: ITA, FRA, BEL, ENG, POR in that order.Β
I was more slightly more impressed in defeat with Germany than I was with ENG and POR.Β  62% possession against the WC champs - not a ton of clear chances but a few half chances.Β  Granted - they could have also lost 3-0.Β  I just think that performance was pretty good - at least of the teams that dropped points.

Meh, Germany looked like butt.Β  I expect them to be shutout again by Portugal.

Hard to put a losing side in the top 5, but they'd be my number 6 team.Β  They will likely rebound. Has GER ever gotten knocked out in group stage at a major tournament?

They could easily be shutout against Portugal and not advanced - I just think they played well, especially when I didn't expect it.Β  The are missing a target guy/goal scorer up top and that may cost them advancing.Β  I'm definitely not counting out the Germans though.

absolutely.Β  Β I don't think we would have had more than 30% possession IMO.

The US are far to young and inexperienced to play a team of that level.Β  Italy has looked fabulous so far.Β  Just wave after wave of constant steady attacking with their usually solid defense.

Another fun day at the Cafe. Met 2 Milan Fans from NYC which was pretty cool. Working the whole match Sunday as it's a 12PM start and work till 3. Gonna be a fun Birthday (it's next Fri June 25th) celebration on Saturday with Italy playing, my brothers with me and Maldini's Birthday all in one day then a BBQ with a former Coworker at his house.Β

This Italy team might not have the stars but the camaraderie is there and I dare anyone try and debate someone having a better MF (Had a great laugh at the English Papers trying to compare Mount to the Italian Greats in MF). They don't have the name stars but this isn't your Nonna's Italy. They play with pace and possession and once they score they are looking for more. The ball movement looks more like the late 2000s Spain teams with possession. Italy whenever it's an underdog in Tourneys always does better. If they win Group A they have a very easy route to the Finals as I believe they wouldn't face France or Belgium till the Finals with how the brackets are set up.Β

Ciro if he hit the ball with his Right Foot instead of his left would have like 6 goals by now. Pretty scary Italy has scored 6 in two matches but the reality is they could've had more too.Β

Updated tourney record 3-1-1 (+2.40)

Slight profit yesterday which we'll never complain about.Β  Early bets

Ukraine/N. Macedonia o2.25 (-110) 2.20 to win 2.00

Yaremchuk anytime goal scorer (+170) 0.5 to win 0.85

These odds are simply too low and I expect 3 goals at least here.Β  Both teams coming off losses, both teams need a result.Β  Scoreless draw will do neither team any good, especially as each team should view this as a winnable game.Β  Both teams play quite open, and both teams are very susceptible in defense which should only lead to goals.Β  To be honest, I'm not sure what Ukraine was doing the first game early vs the Dutch, other than maybe trying not get blown out.Β  Zinchenko was playing too deep, and all too often Yarmolenko was all alone up top with every one else tracking deep.Β  Ukraine has a pretty explosive team, in particular on the counter and have the best players on the pitch imho.Β  Malinovksy is key here an needs to get involved early.Β  I like Yaremchuk to score but only a small punt there because odds are a bit shorter than I would have liked.Β  N. Macedonia have proved time and time again they can score vs anyone, and Pandev long in the tooth sure, but always seems to end up at the right spot at the right time.Β  Elmas and Alioski were dangerous down the wing and Barti can score from anywhere on a set piece.Β  This may well be the most exciting game of the day.Β  (of course yesterday I thought Finland/Russia would be the most entertaining, and was the least by far, so wtf do I know).

g'luck if playing

Today's (first) factoid:

In the first 15 games, both teams have scored in only 4 of those games.

Ukraine and North Macedonia were involved in two of those four games.

I still don't understand the benefit of the delayed offside flag.

In that case, the flag did not go up until the ball went in the net. Β So, why wait? Β If you are sure he is off, then raise the flag. Β If you don't know, leave the flag down, and let the VAR make the call after a goal.
