Denmark again.Β  Shouldn't have happened, as Wales should have received a free kick to start everything but didn't get it.Β  Then a dreadful clearance by the Welsh defense put the ball on Dolberg's foot just yards from goal.Β Β

I mean I have nothing against Wales (unlike the English), but if you don't have a direct connection to Wales you gotta be pulling for DEN here.

Any of you fantasy nerds have Dolberg on your roster? #wrongthread @El Floppo

Italy didn't look bad at first, but just a little out of sync. Now they are looking crisp and dangerous. Just flying up that left side. Feels like the goal is coming soon.

That said, Austria looks really good to start. This is no pushover. I also think they are going to be gassed in the second half.Β

This is the most aesthetically pleasing Italian side I have seen in my life time.Β  The pace they play at isΒ wonderful, especially after decades of dragging out games.

Austria really getting away with some fouls not getting carded. In particular, there was a borderline red card challenge on Di Lorenzo that wasn't even given a yellow.

I wonder what the ratio of goals removed via VAR vs goals kept when the offside flag goes up late after a goal?

It feels like goals removed is much higher but that may be my bias.

Austria obviously fortunate Italy didn't hit on any of their good (or better)Β looks at goal, but Italy also fortunate Austria never found the right pass during one of their odd-man rushes after a turnover.Β  Several times the underdogs managed a line-breaking pass immediately after gaining possession and created a dangerous red wave going forward.

Entertaining game.

Their shape is just incredible on both sides of the ball.. I'm really impressed. And love how direct they play...totally agree this ismt an Italy style weve seen in our lifetimes.

Austria's been fun for sure.

But theyve been lacking the team shape in attack, getting stretched out when their 3 guys on break have to stall out the attack. Lacking the commitment to getting numbers forward.

The Italian opera reaches a crescendo.Β  Nice pass, even better touches to get the ball under control from Chiesa.Β  Excellent goal.

have this on and jeez, 2 or 3 shots on goal in roughly 2 hours? Β i thought i saw a player get shot, he went down like the space shuttle, but it seems someone slid near him.

Its been a compelling game.

You should start a "oh noes, soccer players dive sometimes and it hurts my feelings" thread.

I hope that Pirlo and Buffon are smoking a cig and having a coffeeΒ somewhere to celebrate.Β
Β

God bless the Italians.
