I understand the need for finality. The open-ended finale doesn't satisfy the need for closure.

But this end is far more interesting than seeing Tony get whacked.
No it isn't. Not even remotely close. It's prob my favorite hour drama ever, and I'm fine admitting the ending was a complete pile of horse ####.
And I'm fine saying you're wrong.
Not having an ending is more interesting than having an ending? You know what little sense that makes? I think you're trying a little too hard on this one.

Much of life is unknown and mysterious. So yes, having an ending without resolution is more interesting.

Chase ####ed up the ending. No way around it.
No. The ending is perfect.
The immediate reaction from a majority of the audience wasn't "Wow Tony's dead!" or "Tony will always be looking over his shoulder"; it was "Holy #### my cable just went out, what happened?!"

Failure. It happens when you try to get too cute.
This..... And I was pissed. And then I realized what happened. And then I was more pissed.

I respect doggy, but the ending sucked. When my immigrant ex-girlfriend who likes the show about 1/100 as much as I do almost knocks me off the bed and screams "WHAT THE F--K!!! THE F--KING CABLE JUST WENT OUT".... it was probably a pretty horrible ending.

It's not an ending that leaves a good taste in one's mouth initially, because you don't really know what's going on.

It's like it hits you and you don't even see it.

Underrated funny moment: Tony in the kitchen in S6 watching the History Channel, Carm comes in to ask him about France, Tony's cool with her going with Roe, and then as she's walking out, Tony says "Hey, look!" and it's German soldiers marching under the Arc. :lmao: :lmao:

I think the majority of audiences end up disliking the conclusion of series they love. I can't think of many, especially dramas, that have gone over very well. Six Feet Under was one that I thought was done really well but can't think of many others.

I really liked The Wire's last episode in the drama category.

6'U delivered an amazing finale.

Because he had no respect for the audience who, in his mind, loved Tony in a way that he never intended to show.
I get that Tony was fascinating. I get that he had moments of humanity.

But anyone that loves Tony is out of their mind. He was a murderous, cruel, immature, selfish sociopath.

Which is why I wrote that it was like that in his own mind. He would always say things like that, but I didn't ever hear people refer to Tony as a role model who should be lauded. People loved Tony because he was the central character in one of the greatest shows of all time, and seeing him usually meant something pretty great was about to unfold.

This was one of those situations where the creative-types really overthink things.

Chase: "How could the audience love this man? His actions are reprehensible!"

Every viewer: "Uh, it's a TV show, guy. Relax."

There are some things about the show that are up for interpretation but Tony's fate is not one of them.
Absolutely, positively not.
Again, why would Chase follow MiMOJ walking into the bathroom and move the camera in such a way as to show where the booth/Tony was in relation to the bathroom door?

This "he'll always have to look over his shoulder and never can relax" view doesn't hold water. He's not looking over his shoulder at all in the final scene. He's completely at ease.

Nips is right.

You nerds need to go back and READ CHASE'S QUOTES. He does everything but say it.
You're right. Tony's dead. Does that help your need for closure?
I have no need for closure. Honestly, I think TV shows have too much closure. I love that the Russian guy ran off, never to be heard from again.

In this case though, it's pretty clear that the straight cut to black was from Tony's POV, and was a recreation of What It Is Like To Die.

You're arguing with Chase here.

It's not clear, it's a reasonable assumption.

Look, I can totally buy that Tony's dead. Great. Just don't tell me it's definitive or certain.

Chase loves that people are still debating the end.

Why would Chase add a bunch of red herrings in at the end? Because he's purposely trying to #### with your head.

Red herrings? Like what?

Nobody knew what happened because neither did Tony. Watch the scene again knowing that MiMOJ comes out of the bathroom and shoots him in the head at the moment the screen goes black. It's all there.

You can say that Tony's dead ad infinitum. That doesn't make it so.

Waiting to hear about these "red herrings".

I am far too bored with this argument to make any effort. There are a couple guys in the diner in that last scene that are potential hit men. There is the door constantly opening. There's Tony watching the door, as he's ever-vigilant. Every "clue" that Tony is killed is conjecture and supposition.

Good Lord.

I think he and Carm moved to Utah to be Mr. and Mrs. Mike Smith.

They sell Indian relics by the side of the road. Maybe even start a rattlesnake ranch.

Eat tomatoes that have no taste.

Caught Copland on cable the other day. Haven't seen this movie in years and was shocked by all the Sopranos in the movie.

Carmella, Artie Buco, Paulie, Phil Leotardo, Gloria Trillo, Carlo Gervasi, Agent Cubitosi, Davey Scantino.

There were a few others, but couldn't remember their names (bit players).

Forgot about Beansie, he was in there too.
