I realize it's limited sample size, but I'm pretty much sold on Weghorst over Martial - based on his engine and linkup play alone. I think it speaks volumes to the rebuild ETH is needing to do that Weghorst comes in and is already maybe the preferred 9 in the side.

Rashford's goal was great but that's 3 times Rashford has just made a horrible pass.

Think he's offside but it was a nice goal for Forrest if it stands.

ETA - Stevie Nichols made an observation but didn't really play it out but left it hanging out there. Said Rashford is in a contract year and is playing great. Obvious implication is he's dogging it most of the time but playing out of his mind when money is on the line. I don't see that with Marcus as I think he's an A+ human being but maybe there's an element of it that is true. I will say United fans online were giving him some crap about the Arsenal match and not passing it - he seems disinterested at times in passing and these were so sloppy that I'm sure more conspiracy folks will read into it.

engine maybe, linkup play not for me. Martial has better control and skill. Weghorst gives them the height and a different look.

AND GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rashford is signed until 2024

And BMav - I definitely disagree with the link up play - he’s been super involved and done a good to great job in every match he’s played - IMO.

Not saying he hasn't been and he is doing a good job. And as he plays more I may agree with you that he's better then Martial. I just think Martial fits better with this group.

I agree Weghorst isn’t a fit and don’t think he’s a longterm solution but neither is Martial. He’s been given every opportunity to even do what Weghorst is doing and never shows much of anything for long. He’s totally unwilling to sacrifice himself the way Weghorst is doing and he’s often selfish. Weghorst has been totally unselfish so far and worked his *** off. For this season I’d rather see him and tell Martial to sit and watch.

:goodposting:

This I can agree with. I think there will be a new striker next season. Woudln't mind Weghorst as a bench guy if he continues to do well and is cheap. Martial still has all the skill in the world, hopefully ETH can get him going like Rashford has been. If not, sell him back to France.

In the end a comfortable score line with next week back at Old Trafford. Perhaps even allowing some players to sit out and rest with the Palace rematch on 2/4...

On to the FA Cup vs Reading on the weekend.

Oh wow, this should be fun. Back to back matches with Leeds 2/8 & 2/12 before the Europa clash with Barcelona.

We should have been playing Reading that day, oh well. And I know that on account of Google Calendar's auto-import of our fixtures putting icons of books and glasses on Saturday thinking I'm going to be doing some reading rather than not visiting a crap commuter town

hfs...!!!

Fulham vs Sunderland... has been totally even. last 5 minutes, black cats sub in a 15yo! and he scores the game winner in ET!!!!!!! except it was offsides in the buildup... but jfc- it was a moment that SHOULD have happened.

Barca really fortunate to get the three points today. A bad play by the Girona keeper let them score and plenty of near misses from Girona up to the final whistle. The type of luck you need to win the league.

Mitoma absolutely skinned Alexander-Arnold for 58 minutes today.

So Klopp pulled him for :checks notes: James Milner. You could tell TAA got the message as he was coming off the pitch too.

Mitoma is an amazing player. Know nothing about him, but he's been class the whole game and his winner is straight off a Youtube highlight reel kids will watch in 2050. Beauty.

Whoever is doing scouting and signings for Brighton is going to get poached. Caicedo, Mac Allister and Mitoma. I really like Lamptey too.

Already happened to some extent when Newcastle hired away Dan Ashworth, who was their Technical Director from 2019-2022.

What the hell is that round red card??
It's the one that's used for sending someone off for absolutely nothing

lol. The one replay they showed from like half a mile a way did show the SHU player kick at the Wrexham player but impossible to see if it really landed and what happened.

If it were the PL with a couple dozen cameras in the stadium we'd know. The sideline official obviously saw something that the replay cameras didn't catch.

Player definitely kicked out but no replay I saw could be used to say it was warranted. I tend to give the refs some leeway on those as I’d say the vast majority of the time they get it right on those kinds of calls (off the ball nonsense)

Holy crap. One of the great FA Cup runs of all time and it just happens to be part of a reality TV series?

ETA: oof. An 8-1 curb-stomping in the replay at Bramall Lane inbound.
