⚽ Soccer Match-day Thread (4 Viewers)

It's been a tough watch so far, filled with diving, exaggeration, a scrappy own goal, and lots of whining at the refs. Someone is going to get sent off (Richarlison perhaps?) and the game will likely be decided on a dubious penalty.
Pretty much a perfect summary of the football both these teams have played this year.

Crazy how much this one game could affect these teams for years to come.
"I can't go to a club that's not playing in Europe. Sorry, Manchester United, but I've had my head turned by Crystal Palace."
I was thinking more of the players that Man U are rumored to be chasing that are also wanted by the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle, and Liverpool, but sure. Who doesn't want to go to Palace?

Crystal place was simply funnier.

not sure why, but the english commentators this year have really leaned into calling Inter, 'FC Internazionale Milan".

would be like calling the Knicks, "the New York Knickerbockers basketball team". in other words, stupid.

Not sure how we wasnt booked smashing Maz. Heck wasn't even called a foul leading to Amad getting booked.

The New York Football Giants
but even that one is just adding "football" to it, otherwise it's the same.

Inter.
Milan.

not FC INterdoodledooziale Sweet *** Soccer Team
or Athetical Clubbing Milano wafers team of players

I haven't watched much of either of these teams this season, but right now I'm starting to understand why they were 16th and 17th in the Premier League.
it's like watching Milan, but with no Leao, CP, Theo level players.
I don't understand how Leao isn't a huge transfer target for these guys. Given that neither team seems to have any real game plan, giving the ball to a guy who can make things happen all by himself seems like it would be a spectacular idea.

There's gonna be 6 minutes given in stoppage time, it's somehow gonna go 9 minutes. ManU is gonna score in the 99th minute and we're gonna be forced to watch another 30 minutes of this ****. Just seems fitting.

oh.. sorry @B Maverick ... I forgot about your lethal #9, Maguire.
You kid, but honestly if ManU is just gonna spam crosses in at this point, they should put Maguire up front.

I wasn't kidding.

just so many JAG's on this Manchester United team. Maybe guys like Amad, Garnacho and Hojlund will be something some day but right now they're just bodies. Hojlund just seems like he's only good for being knocked down and the 2 wings just constantly seem to make the wrong decision with the ball. I dont see what Zirkzee or Mazroui bring to the table at all.

Seems like Mainoo has stalled a little and Uguarte hasn't lived up to expectations in year 1. Their entire strategy basically seems to be hoping Bruno creates something out of nowhere or praying that a defender trying to stay in front of Amad falls down.

And then plan B is just lumping it into Maguire.

Just a brutal team to watch. Guessing they're looking for another new manager by Thanksgiving. Guy is in totally over his head.

I disagree with you on Amad, Maz and Ugarte but the rest is fair.

Hojlund has developed a need to initiate contact for no reason before collecting the ball and can't seem to do anything to get a goal.
Garnacho doesn't know what to do with the ball in the final third, is easily stripped and can't score the easy ones.
Zirkzee may be better at the 10 but was bought as a 9, which he isn't.

I think the biggest issue is getting a goal scorer. It takes pressure off when you get a goal and lets players relax and play.

Amorim needs the time to get players for his formation and style. His stubbornness is a good thing right now. These players have outlasted so many managers who played in ways that were supposed to be suited to them. And they all were let down. This team has been begging for an overhaul for years. May be they finally get it with no trophies and a 16th place finish.

Leave it to United to allow Spurs to finally get a trophy. Congrats to them.

There are no more undefeated teams in the CL/Europa/Conf League.

Arsenal 2nd and Tottenham 17th would seem like a dream to Gunner fans, yet Spurs fans are the ones celebrating the season. LOL.
Kind of like when Arsenal were winning FA cups in the late Wenger years, I just can't bring myself to care about the Europa League. Arsenal made it to the final a few years ago, and I spent the entire run making "magical European Thursday nights in Baku" jokes.

First European Trophy in 41 years and you're not gonna enjoy even a few minutes of it?

Spurs fans should enjoy it. I'm genuinely happy for guys like Sonny and even Ange.

But, for better or worse, even though Arsenal haven't won it, the Europa league just isn't something I find it easy to get excited about. I feel the same about the FA cup. It's great for Crystal Palace, but I don't think any City fan should have felt the season was a success if they had won it. They're kind of above it.

To be clear, I'm not saying that Arsenal have the resume in the last 15 years or so to turn up their noses at the Europa League trophy. They certainly don't. But they've stoked the fans' expectations. Arsenal want to be treated like a big team, so the fans are only going to get excited for big boy trophies. Which we might never get. I'm OK with it.

I don’t think you could pay NBA announcers enough to try to say “Knickerbockers” live on air. That would have to be the hardest “ck” ever on the first syllable.

I know Amad has a GREAT game every once in a while but I feel like 75% of the time I watch him its just lots of activity and nothing to show for it.

Didn't see every game, but he just doesn't seem impactful on a consistent basis at all.

Re: Uguarte...just seems like he was billed as a world class box to box super gritty midfielder. But half the games I watched he either isn't starting or gets pulled with like 15 mins left (with the game still in doubt) without making much of an impact.

What is it that you like about Maz? Not being snarky....just curious. Just always seems like he's just kinda THERE without really doing anything. What's his super power?

Totally agree that they just need SOMEONE who can bang in 15 goals up front without requiring some sort of miraculous threaded pass. But those guys obviously dont grow on trees (and will now be ever harder to get without European football and a manager likely on the hot-seat)

Come on You Spurs!!!!

Trying to see if I feel a little bad about the cheapest Champions League entry ever........... hmmmm, nope, doesn't appear to bother me one bit.

Amad has potential to be great and seems to make good decisions, where Garnacho constantly doesn't. Amad is better in front of goal. Some fans prefer Amad as a 10 which is where his better games have come from. He might not be suited to wing back but he does a good job when you need to get more attackers on.

Maz is solid all around and versatile. He may not be a stud but he is solid anywhere you put him. Much better defender and provides better service than Dalot. He is that worker that won't let you down whenever you need him. Can you improve on him? Maybe, but he makes it not a priority. Excellent signing.

Ugarte might not be box to box but as a holder I like him in there. He fights for the ball, gives you a little bite in there as well. One of the few on this team that is willing and able to turn in traffic and carry forward. Too many constantly pass backward and go no where. I've been surprised at how often he was subbed early, half the time it didn't make sense to me.

If the reports are true and Cunha is coming in, he gave Wolves 15g, 6a from the 10. Partnered with Bruno is an exciting idea. Two guys in the 10 that can give you 10-15 goals is a start. Just need that striker to add another 15-20.

Nor should it. Its the rules and gives Europa a little extra meaning.

And what does it say about the other teams that the 16 & 17th place EPL teams were in the finals and the higher ups in others were not? :boxing:

Colin Jost and Michael Che’s Joke Swap for the SNL Season 50 finale. Jost had to say: “Steve Kerr is here with his family, I got to meet his son Nick & I love Steve. I like Nick. I wouldn’t say I’m a Nick Kerr lover”
