I broke the various scenarios down in the US thread yesterday.  But yes, to win the group, US needs to win by one more than what Nigeria wins by.

When I looked him up I realized it was his dad I was remembering.  The dad was Alf-Inge Haland who played for many years in England in the 90's and early 2000's.
