The laws changed, this isnt a VAR issue.  Any handball leading to a goal, even accidental, is called.  Basically saying handballs are now called differently for the offense depending on the result and where it is on the field.

Oh and don't get me wrong, VAR sucks.  the City goal should have stood.
But that wasn't a handball under the new definition:

It is an offence if a player: (1) deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, including moving the hand/arm towards the ball or (2) gains possession/control of the ball after it has touched their hand/arm and then: scores in the opponents’ goal or creates a goal-scoring opportunity
Boly didn't gain possession/control of the ball after it touched his arm.

I’m really disappointed that I forgot to post my rankings.  I had Chelsea 10th but now it will look like I’m reacting to this game.  But the reality when you look at the roster....is that the team is very poor.
10th in the Premier League is "very poor"?  West Ham finished 10th last year, and they have Jack Wilshere.

"(2) gains possession/control of the ball after it has touched their hand/arm and then: scores in the opponents’ goal or creates a goal-scoring opportunity"

He created a goal scoring opportunity.

Leeds (Leeds Leeds) wearing that sexy pink away kit today.  That Gooner kid got a goal in his first appearance to day too. Up 2-0 now.

Read the entire thing. He first has to gain possession or control after it touches his arm then create a goal scoring opportunity. He did not gain possession or control of the ball before the goal scoring opportunity.

:goodposting:

I think the rule is poorly written then based on the discussions I've heard about the intentions.  Since the handball lead to his teammate gaining control and a goal scoring opp it was ruled out.  No one said he himself needed to gain control.  Although the ref/VAR probably believed the ball hitting his head then dropping to his teammate after hitting his arm constitutes "gaining control"...

You are probably right but this just feeds more into the issues with VAR's application and how the laws are written.  They don't want a handball leading to a goal (spirit of the law) but they didn't write it well enough and the letter of the law meant they called this one wrong.  They based on spirit and not letter.  Opposite of offside where they seem to be calling the letter of the law (any part you can score with means you are off) instead of the spirit (gaining an advantage, even is on, we want more scoring, when in doubt favor the offense).

For me the offside can be fixed by applying the "clear and obvious" designation like they do on the other calls.  If you have to go frame by frame with the blue/red lines to see my size 10 boot is ahead of his size 8, not only is that not clear and obvious but it doesn't gain any advantage.  You are just crushing a beautifully timed run.

It is a trophy - but its still curious to see the strong line-ups for a mid-week clash in Turkey.

Chelsea get an extra day of rest, and a home match, but have to play a decent Leicester City on Sunday.

Liverpool will stop off for an Intra-squad scrimmage at St. Marys on Saturday before returning to Liverpool.

It is streaming online if you can watch where you are.  https://www.tntdrama.com/watchtnt/east
dammit. same issue keeping me from the spectrum site (updating their UI, and I need a bill in front of me to transcribe info to update my prefernces) has me off of the TNT site... I was allowed 10 minutes before signing in- which allowed me to get until literally 3 seconds after kickoff for the 2nd half. lots of great commercials though.

eta: thanks for the link thought. I blame ned.

looks like CP is off?

overall assessment?
He was good.  Needs to get stronger, but he has the chops to play for this team.

If CP is competing directly with Mount for minutes, I think it will get pretty interesting.  I'm not sure what will happen now that Wilian is fit, and it will get even more tight when Odoi comes back, but you have to say CP has earned his minutes and should get them.

LFC seem kind of disinterested, not really treating this like a big game. I was hoping for a goal one way or the other before FT as I have quite a bit of work to do this afternoon.

gotta say- I expected Mount to be a 2nd div wonder, only there because Lamps knew him and was familiar with him. but the guy's good from what I've seen. less upside, IMO, but more of a 2-way all-arounder than CP.... which makes him more like Lamps than CP.
