Good for arsenal and all, but on paper at least it appears Chelsea #### the bed once again.

Anybody watch? Up a goal at home vs 10 men for over an hour...three points should always be in the bag for a top team.

I had it on in the background at work.  Arsenal's first goal was due to a breakaway after a bad corner for Chelsea.  Then Kante fell down on what appeared to be an icy pitch today and Martinelli was free vs. the keeper.

The second Arsenal goal was due to terrible man marking by Emerson and Abraham(although he was limping at the time so...).  Bellerin never should've been able to get a shot away, but he did and took it well, although Kepa could've/should've probably saved it.

Anyway, Chelsea had like 19 shots, but almost all of them were weak/poorly placed.  They just can't figure out how to break down a parked bus, even if that bus is only holding 10 men.  At this point I have no idea why any team would play an attacking style against them.  Sit back, hold your lines, close them down and you're probably gonna beat them on a counter or a fluke set piece.

I watched.  There's no question for me that any other manager in the world would be fired by now, but Frank obviously has a long rope due to his legacy, the love of the supporters, probably coupled with the transfer ban which is a very convenient excuse.  They have no ideas in the attack, are a complete disaster at the back.  This season is shaping up a bit like last in that whoever finishes 4th will probably default into it by being the least crap from a large bag of crap.

Come on you Spurs, be the least crap from a large bag of crap!  (It would be so Spursy to blow all these gifts and still not 'win' a 4th place 'trophy'.)

 
To me the is the biggest Chelsea problem.  You can't have this many shots going in.  The defense is actually doing a fair job not giving up shots but Kepa is letting them in at a historic pace

I am curious how many of those shots are off of set pieces.  My son's 8U team defends them better than Chelsea does :rolleyes:

I am not sure about your question but I did read Chelsea has allowed even less shots than Liverpool has this season.

16% is a ridiculous number with these many samples.  Some is on Kapa and I guess some must be on the defense for giving up easy shots to take when they give them up.

The numbers look terrible of course, and I can't dispute them just with my own unscientific eye-test, but I don't think he's been bad.  He's not going to win them games by making incredible saves like Cech and Courtois would, but he's not really had many howlers either.  Yesterday they gave up 2 goals on 2 shots, so that 100% day probably moved the needle a bit on the 16% overall.  The first was a 1 v 1 on a breakaway where you'd love to see a heroic save but no one is going to blame the keeper if they score.  On the second, you can say he coulda shoulda done better, but it would have taken a great save. He had his near post covered, was probably partially unsighted, dove, and just missed on a good shot to the far post.  Both goals were primarily the result of bad defending, with some deserved credit given to the goalscorers for nice finishing on both.

Yeah...what I've seen from him is fine. Not standing on his head, but consistent and no mistakes. His defense lets the opposition get too many easy chances imo...and it seems like many of them happen towards the end of games, maybe after subs.

 
Kepa's biggest issue is his inability to come off the line.  Not saying that's what happened yesterday... both of those shots were gonna be tough for any keeper, but from what I've watched this year, there's been multiple crosses into the box that a great GK would come out and punch/grab, but Kepa sits back and then has no chance when the opponent gets a clean header on it.  

I know it's hard to just look at stats when looking at a GK because all shots aren't equal, but Kepa is 127th out of 132 GKs in English football this year for save percentage.  No chance that all those goals he conceded were "impossible".  

What I see is a GK that is good, but nowhere near great.  The problem with that is he's the most expensive goalkeeper of all time.  For the price Chelsea paid for him they should expect him to make world class saves and they just aren't getting that.  I can see why many Chelsea fans are frustrated with him.

I'm not an expert on such things, but I expect his contract makes him very hard to sell.  Even if the owner is willing to take a bath on the transfer price, Kepa signed a 7 year deal that runs through the summer of 2025.  I think the media and supporters are scapegoating him.  He's unlikely to ever live up to the price they paid for him, but I think he's good enough with a little support.

Just to be specific, this stat was not just for English football.  The 127 out of 132 stat was taken from the top 7 leagues in Europe shot to goal percentage.

 
Damn, I'm continuing to be impressed by Wolves. Nuno has done a fantastic job. Best team we have faced this year, in both games.

 
That was another impressive win for Liverpool yesterday. A seething, boiling stadium howling against them, a skilled opponent who routinely gets up for their strongest opponents, and they still find a way to pull it out.

I was thinking while I watched them that they're not the most skilled team I've ever watched but they expect to make all the plays and then they do. In its own way, that may be even more impressive.

Damn, I like watching Wolves play, too.

Funny. I've been struck this year at just how skilled individually and collectively they've been. I've been mentioning this already, but the first touch is 99% sublime across the field, and the passing is so quick and almost always dead on in terms of location and weight...setting up their attacks perfectly just about every time. Even the benign lateral passes in the back.. technically way better than anybody else in the EPL outside of city. All those seemingly unimportant touches and passes add up to one team not getting the attack rolling and Liverpool just pounding it down opponents throats with lethal and immediate efficiency. Super duper talented to accomplish that...Barca, City talented imo.

 
Every time Haaland scores I am going to think about what a steal Dortmund made this winter.  The kid has Lewondowski written all over him.  He now has 33 goals in 26 games this season.

United did what they should have done against a team they should do it too.  Sadly I expected the worst.  

McGuire, Dalot, Lingard, Jones all scored.  Tranmere basically sat there and dared them all to shoot.

Happy they put up the scoreline, got the clean sheet, no injuries and no replays.  But I'm not declaring them BACK since they have a cup game vs City this week and the knee jerk will swing the other way....

My daughter played in the state cup tourney on better fields this weekend.  It looked like some of the sunday league fields I play on.

It's a "feel" kinda thing. Can't put it into words. Not really interested in the subject all that much. In fact, now that I've thought more about, Liverpool just resembles a bunch of wanking truck drivers out there on the pitch. Wearing steel-toed boots.
