Next year we'll be on Match Day Four of the World Cup.
Oh wow, hadn’t really processed this yet. Next November will be bonkers from a sports on tv perspective

Timbers to host conference final now... Planning to be there.

But not good with Asprilla out and Blanco probably too with injury.

Unbelievable. Vermes might spontaneously combust at the final whistle
He should combust at himself.

Same ‘ol same ‘ol. Run your team into the ground the whole season so come playoff time their legs are dead. Couple that with zero depth and poor to little substitutions and here we are.

Again.

I like where Vermes has gotten the Kansas City franchise. But it is getting close to time for a change.

Cheeky take by McGlynn

Andre Blake doing his best Gigi Donnarumma impersonation on Penalty shootouts.

Union win and onto their first Eastern Conference Finals

Aside from being a pretty important 6-pointer, to the extent you can have one before x-mas, I think this should be a pretty fun game to watch.

Just saw this:

BREAKING: England Women thrash Latvia 20-0 in a record-breaking World Cup Qualifier

If the US women did that - they would be roundly criticized.  I don't think I like seeing such a lopsided score, even in a qualifying game.  At some point, it becomes obvious that its not a real sporting event, when the teams are so mis-matched.

(I don't know of Latvia went down to 10 or fewer players, but the point stands).

Newcastle have been on the front foot with 10 men today more than they ever were with Bruce and 11.

Bruce is such a hugely negative coach dating back at least until he was at Wednesday. Last game we played against them he set up for 0-0 and treated that as a win. In a derby. Hopefully for the general entertainment in English football he just retires gracefully and spends his remaining days in Greggs

Was going to mention the England 20-burger but someone beat me to it.

MLS playoffs in a nut shell

NONE of the top 4 teams in the Supporters Shield will play in the conference finals. Despite all 4 playing a combined 5 matches at home, only 1 of them won a match. All 4 were defeated in penalties, in stoppage time, or in extra time. Overall seeds 5, 6, 8 and 13 remain

Interesting nugget.

In a former life, I was a sports writer in Minnesota and once wrote a story on this world-class soccer player that had moved to the Minneapolis suburbs to live near his wife's family.

Went to their house and spent the day with them. Had no idea who the guy was.

His daughter was in high school at the time. She was a great athlete, a singer, an aspiring model, involved in theater.

His son was in middle school and was already apparently a nationally known soccer phenom.

It was a fun day hanging out with them. Great people.

The dad? Alex Bunbury.

The daughter? Kylie Bunbury, who now stars on Big Sky on ABC.

The son, of course, was Teal Bunbury. No idea he was on New England.

I was travelling and missed the game.

Crazy playoffs this year with lower seeds advancing. Sorry the revs couldn't get the deserved double after such an epic season.

@Sammy3469 hungover somewhere?
Is it really so crazy?  When's the last time a supporter's shield team won the cup?  Atlanta was close, but they were edged to the shield by NYRB that year, I think.

Dunno. Maybe it's normal. I'm used to shield winners not winning. But seems like this round we have all lower seeds advancing...that seems a bit crazy. Ah- I see philly are the higher seed.

Hope the Watford supporter is ok - but this is a much needed respite for Chelsea.  I expect Tuchel to get things sorted during the break.

Kind of bummed - was hoping to watch a bit of Chelsea before the late games, and I already have to miss the 2nd half of the late games.

Chelsea, City, and Liverpool are so far ahead of the rest of the league.

I think I'd rather watch them play each other every week, than watch them play other teams.
