AFCON - Mali v Tunisia

Craziness

- VAR review for a penalty, given (pen missed)

- Ref blows for full-time on 85 minutes

- Play does restart - Player sent off

- VAR tells the ref it's not a red

- Ref rejects the red review (it was never a red card)

- Ref blows for full time on 89.40 (this is when the video starts)

Apparently they called the managers in from the press conference and restarted the match.

God help me, I love it so.  Never stop AFCONing, AFCON.

same ref, 3 years earlier. I guess the provisional part really was.

The Zambian ref stirred controversy during the Caf Champions League semis clash between Esperance and Primiero Agosto

Caf have provisionally suspended Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe on suspicion of corruption following the way he handled the Caf Champions League match which Esperance won 4-2 in Rades.

It is not yet clear if Sikazwe has filed an appeal with the Caf Appeals Board. “The chairman of the Caf Disciplinary Board decides that there is good ground to hold a hearing regarding allegations of corruption made against Mr Janny Sikazwe,” read the ruling by the Caf Disciplinary Board.

“Mr Janny Sikazwe is provisionally suspended from all football activities related to Caf pending a hearing before Caf Disciplinary Board.”

They should really add a match-fixing/corruption feature to Football Manager.

"Your assistant coach reports that your hidden gem midfielder on $15K a year sure seems to have a lot of Indonesian friends."

Forget it Jake, it's CAF

so does Pulisic play elsewhere next year? it seems they intentionally try to NOT get him involved when he's out there

It would have been great if he could’ve delivered today, but I think he had his hands full with Cancelo. He’s been extremely valuable to Chelsea this past month. I don’t see him going anywhere and doubt there’s any club interested in paying what it would take to get him, for better or worse.

To my untrained eye, it looked like while he was in there on the right, Chelsea intentionally funneled the ball left and usually Alonso would lose possession.  When Werner came on, it was like they were suddenly able to run it down the right.

Lolol. I swear that watching the husk of Philippe Coutinho score the tying goal against United is the kind of thing that makes me enjoy this game.

hey if you're bored check out the series Bad Sport on Netflix. Especially the Soccergate episode. Interesting story about how back in the day a Juventus GM used to pull some shady crap to guarantee his team would get some beneficial refereeing. Worth a watch for sure.

Everton is a less attractive job opening than Villa or even Newcastle, IMO

There's more talent on the field but it doesn't fit together and the organizational dysfunction will still be there for Rafa's successor.

waiting for Liverpool to finally cash in their insurance goal so I can switch to the West Ham - Leeds (Leeds Leeds) barnburner

What a chance and what a miss by West Ham in the final moment.
I think Bowen's getting a bad rap on that one.  The touch by the defender on the cross messed up his timing and the ball was slightly behind him, and curling further behind.  That little flick with his trailing shoulder seemed clever to me, but he couldn't get it on goal.

Sierra Leone got a stoppage time equalizer vs. Cote d'Ivoire on a howler by their regular goalkeeper.  The keeper was injured on the play (or was too embarrassed to continue) so Serge Aurier finished the game between the sticks.

Huge result for Sierra Leone who've earned draws against CIV and ALG and are well positioned to advance with their final game against Equatorial Guinea.

and I wonder if that Ref ever answered for any of this?

two options:

- watch is a wind up that he forgot to wind.

- .... something. or other.

has there been any follow up on this? or is this cat still calling games?
