Fabio Carvahlo to Liverpool from Fulham at the summer, for ~8MM pounds.

Seen as a bigtime steal -- 19 years old 7g/7a and over 2000 minutes logged for Fulham this year -- mostly because he's out of a contract in a month or two.

Jota, Diaz, Elliott, Carvahlo, Konate, Thiago.  Even Keita is showing signs of life ATM.

Crazy how good this team is and that they could still get shut out by the best team Petrodollars can buy on all three fronts.

Wrong thread!

what a freaking goal. :jawdrop:

watching that team more than I should because of Konrad- Payet is a guy that elicits a ton of crap being thrown at him from the stands from opponent's fans... it's uncanny. there must be some history to it, and it's not just one team's fans.

this sucks.

absolutely Fulhamerica's best player, and young. 8m pounds is goofy low for where this kid could end up. and chances are, it wont' ever be with Liverpool. meanwhile, newly promoted FFC lose their best player for peanuts as they try to figure out how to stay up next season and beyond... losing that kid definitely wasn't the best way forward, regardless of him being out of contract at the end of the season.

Southampton looking shambolic right now.  Down 3-0 to Chelsea after 22 minutes, the third coming after a terrible defensive header sets Werner off on a breakaway from midfield.

ETA:  Werner hits the right post to complete a difficult woodwork hat-trick within 32 minutes (both posts and the crossbar).  It caroms directly to Havertz for Chelsea's fourth.  Soton are consistently giving it away childishly right now.

Werner’s breakaway goal is exactly the chance he’s consistently flubbed since joining the club last year. If he finally gets untracked - great for Chelsea, not so great for Christian Pulisic.

Pretty good set of results for us, held Bournemouth at home and Middlesbrough choked against Hull. Local side just gone 3 up as they close in on trying to get back into the league

City vs Pool

Shmeichel with TWO PK saves in a row (1st was redone due to encroachment) off of Zaha. But the rebound on the 2nd was headed in.

fabinho looks off the pace here.

I mean- he's usually a yellow in waiting, regardless of who the opponent is- but it could be a rough one for him today.

Freaking Allison at fault for that goal, should never have been a corner. A couple times he's made the worst decision  he could on distribution.

*EXHALE*

moments of sloppiness- because both teams press so insanely well... but wow- on the flip side, both teams are so good going forward.

what a first half. and even you Liverpool guys have to feel ok being just a goal down when you know they haven't been at their tippy-top (but again, credit to City for forcing a lot of poor choices).

City are ripping Liverpool apart.  Klopp apparently never yells, but he might consider a rant right about now -- they're better than they've played and have been so loose with the ball even after you give City the credit they deserve.

From about 25 minutes on I was praying for 1-1 at the break.

Don't remember the last time a team dominated Liverpool so thoroughly.  It's been awhile.

I’m at peace with the notion of passive offside but it’s not possible to say Becker is not influenced by 4 blue shirts spaced across the front of his goal when that pass is lobbed in. They were all a couple yards offside. I guess he’s supposed to ignore them and slide over to mark Jesus.

Figured it would be sour grapes if I pointed this out.  But they're doing it all the time.  They've got multiple guys camped out offside, so Liverpool pushes the line up then City sends a runner around the end.  They've done it four times I think -- so it's obviously a strategy.

Such a ####### horrible rule.

ETA:  it might have been what Klopp was ranting at the 4th official about.

I was going to say the same thing but decided against as well.

Of course Pep and every other manager is using this, but I agree it is very evident today. The rule has been interpreted like this for many years and that goal is allowed 100% of the time. So its really no sour grapes imo - just a tip of the cap to Pep for exploiting it so well. No amount of training is going to allow a GK to ignore those offside players and focus on the one onside runner when that ball is in the air.

Just get rid of offside altogether if four guys can line up two yards directly behind each defender during the run of play.

Even though Liverpool needed the 3 points more than City, I think Pool has to be the happier side with the result.  They were outplayed most of the match.

Said it a couple times in the past, but these fixtures have been at peak Barca v Real level for the last four or five years now.  I still think City won it on points, but Liverpool is just so dangerous that they can land a few haymakers at any time.

Enjoyed this one a lot less than most of them though.  City were better.

FWIW, 538 shifted the odds from 65/35 City before the game to 67/33 after the draw.  So really didn't change things much.

And they're effectively tied at 1-2 in the world power rankings now as well -- just ahead of Bayern in 3rd.

I find this a strange conversation as I had a completely different take on this.

Both sides play extremely high lines. They both dare you to do exactly this and they are two of the better sides in the world at exploiting this. When the defense storms forward to try to trap people offside, you have to be very aware.

And yet the action you are debating, TAA quit on the play. And it wasn't the only time in the game that either side did this. In an age of passive offsides and VAR, over and over both of these sides quit on plays (watching Kyle Walker throw his arm up like a schoolboy is embarrassing).

Just like the refs, the players need to play through. And as brilliant as this game was, both sides didn't on multiple occasions.

We do it again next weekend.  Going to have to find a useful substance of some kind.

Some chance we see the winner of these games decide the league, the FA Cup and the Champions League.
I can't find it easily, but how are the final 2 matchups in the CL determined? Is it redrawn or is there a bracket right now and already determined from the current matchups?
