⚽ Soccer Match-day Thread (1 Viewer)

Damnit, took a knee to the thigh in yesterday's Sunday league matchup. It still hurts.

It was a battle between #2 and #5 in the table. WE (#5) took an early lead as I got on an errant backpass from their defenders to meg the keeper for 1-0. They then scored 3 on some questionable lack of offside calls going into half time. I think 1 was off but 2 were probably ok. The second half was marred by some reckless tackles from behind as our left back ran through the opponent's back twice in 30 seconds, both late and unnecessary. The first wasn't booked and should have been. The second one led to handbags being thrown, 2 red cards on each side and the game being abandoned when their coach got involved. Honestly, our two reds were deserved and they were lucky they didn't get 2-3 more. Since it didn't get to 65 mins, the game is abandoned and may or may not have to be replayed. League Commish does have those game cameras out, so it will be reviewed. I'm curious to see how the punishment is handed out upon review.

Its a mens league but there are a few ladies that play. Ours were making fun of everyone's "punches". Very slap fight looking :lmao:

On another note, 2 weeks until real games start kicking off and this thread starts jumping again.

We're back! Wrexham kick off away to Soton in 20 minutes for those interested
Ouch, what a way for Wrexham to be welcomed to the Championship.

I am rooting for them, but they aren't going 4 promos in a row.
I didnt watch, but sounds like they gave up late goals to lose 2-1. Based on your post, i thought they got blown out...not almost winning
I didn't watch either, just saw two goals in Fergie time to lose. Always harsh to give up 2 in 90+.

I watched most of the 1st half of RB vs SLC. luna with a fantastic through ball hockey assist early. Sounds like it went wacky late...luna red card and RB winning in the 99th.

Mo with the rare right footer. Team misses Gravenberch. Balance seems wonky with four attacking players. Team has a long way to go to be tight defensively. But 3 points is 3 points.

Just saw the new goalkeeper timewasting rule in effect. Burnley keeper held the ball too long and Spurs were given a corner. In the 4th minute of a scoreless game. Good rule.

Could have given an IFK two seconds earlier if existing rules were enforced. Pointless rule.
IF they were enforced. I am for either one, as long as they enforce them.

As a legal person, this is my problem. I am hugely opposed to anything that just adds legislation to the table when it's not needed. It solves nothing given there are already things within the laws of the game to stop keepers taking the piss.

Everyone agrees it would be preferrable to enforce existing rules as written. We're all constantly shaking our fist at that cloud. That doesn't mean the new rule is "pointless," especially when its used in the first week of the season exactly as intended, to punish timewasting.

:goodposting: Exactly this. Now can they stay consistent in enforcing? True test will be when Pickford and Everton play.

Learned a new rule today -

13.3 Offences and sanctions -- If, when a free kick is taken, an attacking team player is less than 1 m (1 yd) from a ‘wall’ formed by three or more defending team players, an indirect free kick is awarded.

Palace free kick goal disallowed by VAR due to attacking player standing near the wall.
