🐎 *OFFICIAL 2022 Horse Racing Extravaganza Traveling Road Show Thread - Life Gettin' Better At Big Sandy* 🐎 (1 Viewer)

congrats to anyone that keyed Epi.   I had zandon wheeled on the bottom.

Summer is Tomorrow ran a suicide race.

$163.60   $74.20   29.40

                    $7.40    5.20

                                  5.60

Great move around Messier right at the end.

Really, that was an amazing, exciting race from start to finish. Lots of horses had a shot all the way through.

Ethereal Road - OUT.

Rich Strike - IN.

- closed up the rail while chewing up decent ground last out, finishing third by six lengths in the Ruby (Tiz the Bomb).

- but did break his maiden at Churchill, winning a 30k maiden claiming 1m by 17 lengths (1:36 & change).

and then we have this tidbit in his favor:

Horses who have shown the ability to finish fast at the end of a two-turn route race have the best chance to handle the Kentucky Derby’s testing 1 1/4-mile distance. When analyzing Derby contenders, look for horses who sprinted the final three-eighths of a mile of their final prep race in :38 seconds or less.

The data is strong: 18 of the last 24 Kentucky Derby winners successfully shaded the :38 mark in their final prep race, suggesting the ability to finish strongly is important for success on the first Saturday in May.

Derby contenders who finished their final prep in :38 seconds or less: Mo Donegal, Epicenter, Skippylongstocking, Early Voting, Rich Strike, Zozos, Tiz the Bomb, Zandon, Pioneer of Medina, Taiba, Tawny Port, and Messier.

we had it folks!!!! Otb clued us all in!!!

You gotta love it.  Baffert gets banned for an ointment (which is legal in most states).

Then the good ol boys win the Derby with a $30K horse that was so jacked up, it couldn't stop biting the pony after the race.

That thing could've won a 350 yard quarter horse race after the winner's circle pic.  Hilarious.

LOL..  I had $25 on the show horse and won $70.   Bet it $30/20/20 on the #6 in next race and won $333.

Flying back. Trip of a lifetime. Our whole group had winners on both days. Threw $600 in a hat and everyone voted on the bet. Had $600 to win on Zandon and into the stretch we thought we had it. Great rush. We were seated just past the finish line so got a great look into the first turn. When I saw the 4 go and then the Japanese horse absolutely sprinting I knew we had a different year. Messier couldn’t sniff the lead and Taiba was pulling to get into contention. Looked like Derbies of old when you knew closers would be coming. Had Zandon and Epicenter in exactas and keyed 1st and 2nd in tris and supers to a bunch of long shots that finished 4-5-6 but didn’t have the winner anywhere. I guess the only way you could have him is that huge win at CD (though 30K maiden claimer - come on) and the fact that he had quality breeding to get the distance.  But if you get trounced by 6 lengths in the least productive prep race normally, are 1-7 lifetime and have never cracked a 90 Beyer I think with a no name jockey who had never even RIDDEN in a stakes race from what was considered a death slot without speed - couldn’t have it.

Epicenter-Zandon-Strike ice cold trifecta in the Preakness

didja?

HUH?

this place has seen some redboarding in the past, much to my disgust - like the clown who claimed he cashed YUUUUUUUUGE on Bodemeister in the Ark. Derby, but had no ticket/proof - and of course made ZERO mention of the horse at all during the week leading up - just crowed about it after the fact.

####### jagoff.

don't be that guy today.

PROOF, or ####/gfy/gtfo.

not talking about anybody who already posted - just about redboard mutha ####ers.

we had it folks!!!! Otb clued us all in!!!

dunno if sarcasm, but if it is, what's your point?

this game is full of gamblers who play strict angles, and this sure was one of 'em.  yes, i thought he merited mention based on that, and on how he performed over this track previously.

i did not use him, no.

i'm not "that guy"

POST MORTEN:

welp, we got the pace meltdown finally ... fastest qtr in Derby history.

watching Mess back up in the stretch was nauseating - really didn't notice the #21 because i was busy hurling f bombs and coasters and party favors at the nearest wall.

went to the oater over in Jersey to place the wagers - we had what can best be described as a late fall like Nor'easter here yesterday - severe winds, pouring rain, chilly ... more like early November than early May.

was gonna hop back over the bridge and convene with some other degens in Brooklyn ... but got caught up drinking and chin wagging with some legit rummies up at the oater.

by the time i realized "####, i better get that Uber", the price, which is normally a reasonable $50, was jaked to roughly $80.

yeah, no.

ran outta cigs, so had to run, literally, to the nearest bodega - got soaked as a mo, and ducked into some Ecuadorian jernt ... the smell of charred meat wafting about - was like in the cartoons where ya see the character floating in the air following the luscious vapor trail.

there was a christening party going on in the back catering hall - soccer on each of the 8 tv screens - had the manager summoned, and he said they were gonna put the race on at 6:45, as there were bettors in attendance, and they ran a contest as part of the party favors (they handed out 1-21 cards to everybody, winner(s) got $100).

convinced the barkeep chick to fashion me a mint julep or three ... pretty tasty, very decent effort on her part - though i was pretty well cranked at that point, and maybe too interested in the flirting we were doing.  dunno.

anyways, the place went nutso during the race - was packed at that point, was like the Super Bowl up in there.

which brings up a great point - the casual fan who watched that #### yrsterday had a COTdamb blast - that's the kinda excitement and improbability that hooks folks like that, and seeing an 81/1 shot take this down, and those suitcase payouts, gives them all hope ... they realize THEY DON'T NEED TO 'CAP THIS THING TO DEATH TO HAVE A GREAT TIME AND WIN A FEW SHEKELS.

was a throwback to the glory days ... where anything was a possibility - we've been numbed by the class horses dominating this for the better part of the last 10 years - this was a much needed slap in function's face.

i loved it.

keyed Mess, used 8 others (3,5,8,10,12,14,18,19) - was up nicely for the day, so dropped about $500 worth of bets.

no regrets.

Mine That Bird had won the Sunland Derby leading up to his big score - no great shakes, but, hey - was a graded stakes win, no?

had wet weather, Bo-Rail, and a great post (#8).  hell, as i said on Thursday, my 'capping buddy loved him, and cashed some fat #### as a result.

so there was something there ... not much, but just enough to say "hey, ya know ... this #8, hmmmmmm"

Giacomo? more improbable than MTB, imo - though the biggest numb nutz in the biz, Ken "i am a complete jackass" Rudolph did give him out on TVG as his pick ... thanks, Giacomo, it's kept that buffoon on the air thanks to that ONE tout.

this Rich Strike, tho?

cloud shot, baby ... gives me chills watching the replay now as i am sobering up - i LOVED it for the sheer lunacy of it all.

how can ya not love this?

was he juiced? we'll never know, and i really don't care.

Great summary.

Thanks!

I lost but had action.  All I could ask for.

Preakness coming.

Please @otb_lifer my comment had zero malice at all towards you - this was such an absolutely stunning unexpected horse that I was curious if any mention had been made at all prior to the Derby.  Your post was basically the only one and actually laid out the positives for the horse which is pretty amazing.  You always bring the info to the thread which is awesome.

my post was in the spirit of "you just never really know" with horse racing and was poking fun at all of us with 20/20 hindsight that "we should have known" something that was absolutely unknowable.  That is all :D

It certainly wasn't a personal barb :(

I didn't use him either - even though about 5 minutes before post I commented to my sister that I should put $2 on the #21 because you never really get a chance to bet on a horse with that saddlecloth number - was too lazy to reopen the app and dump in another $2. :kicksrock:

One of if not my favorite threads every year.

thanks @otb_lifer for putting it together. Hopefully we keep it going for the summer

thanks for the props, ol' Cowboy 🤠

you're a square player, always appreciate your posts here & in the gambling thread.

yeah - will keep it going straight thru the BC.

we got the Preak, Belmont, Haskell, Jim Dandy, PC Classic, Travers ... plus assorted other bullring Derbys to wag about - i had a very good day, except for the Derby - between the spread, drinks, transport ... i took one hell of a beating.

... #### day as it was, it was still a great time, had an absolute blast.

👍
