I have and while it is a lightly moderated forum, I am treated about the same there as I was in the last 6 months of the PSF (as far at the insults and name calling that is directed at me, and that is allowed, is concerned).

I miss it. It was my primary source of political news and there was some good discussion to be had. There was also a lot of unnecessary nonsense as a byproduct of our political landscape. It seems like we've lost some posters in the process too (some good and some bad).

I will say that I pay a lot less attention to politics than when it was here, which may be a positive for my overall health.

I agree that it's been great, and I'm not opposed to a special "election night" thread, but honestly politics just adds nothing positive to this type of site. Look at FFT and tell me that they're better off with their political content. Or any other site that doesn't have politics as part of its core mission.

This place is better when it's aging football fans breaking one another's proverbial balls and being funny or thoughtful. Let the people who want to argue about House leadership (or whatever) do so elsewhere.

I've gotten suspended twice on election nights and it's not even my country's election

I don't miss the PSF at all. It was way too easy to get sucked into the pissing contest, even as a very intermittent poster there.

I got a ban during the NBA finals when my favorite team was playing because I called a poster named Navin Johnson (main character from The Jerk) a "random run of the mill *******" (direct quote from The Jerk).

The guy reported me after trolling me for the entire game then acted like he had no idea what happened. Had him on ignore ever since.

The faceless Mod doesn't take any time to figure out what happens or understand anything, just saw me call a guy a ******* and dropped the hammer. My appeal went nowhere and I was banned from a thread I had participated in all year during the pinnacle of the season.

You are one of the best posters in the current forums and you are well respected by most everyone. And I remember when I was get piled on and attacked at some point, you spoke up and defended my right to free speech. I've always appreciated that. IMHO, one of the biggest questions comes down to this - What exactly is in it for @Joe Bryant to restart or reopen the PSF?

He pays the bandwidth, the same bad faith actors go on the endless attack ( For how long? More than a decade? With how many aliases from the same bad faith posters? If you add it up, they probably rack up to half a million posts between them with all their aliases) Then Joe speaks up at some point and says the problems from the PSF are causing impact on his self care and wellness. That's not a criticism. I'm a fellow small business owner, and I understand the isolation and stress of being in charge. How did the worst bad faith actors respond to Joe's talk about the situation? Many of the exhausting problem people doubled and tripled down. So what's the message to Joe there?

1) It's a bright neon sign that says they don't care if his children starve. Or if he doesn't have a roof over his head. Or if people who work for him can't pay their bills. The forums have a marketing element for FBG as a business and a brand. This place is still a business. It's still a conduit for people to earn a living.

2) It's a huge freeway sized sign that the worst bad faith actors don't care if Joe's health collapsed completely, just as long as they could use this place like a toilet and spit in other people's faces for sport.

I want to be fair about this, there are some people here who would have been permanently banned at nearly every other established community on the Internet for their behavior. But I also calibrate that Joe tends to want to see the best in other people. I am hesitant to punish someone for that. It's an expression of hope. He's unwilling to permanently ban some people. Since he won't do that, and that's his right, the PSF can't exist. Just because I might do it different doesn't mean Joe is wrong. It's his house, he has to eat the cost of what happens here (and that goes beyond just money), so it's his decision.

So for the very small handful of dirtbags who used the PSF and the forums like a personal toilet, here is my message to you - What exactly was the long term plan there? Keep up the toxic behavior and keep trashing the place until Joe's health and wellness completely collapsed? Are you that completely selfish? Do you have any sense of community or even integrity at all? If you had any respect for this place at all and in the people in it, since you won't be permanently banned, you should just leave and never come back. But you won't. Because, as I said all the way back in 2006, people are going to do exactly what is in line with their character. Or lack of it.

On an aside, running the hypothetical that the PSF was reopened ( it won't be, it's gone for good, I'm not quite sure why some can't accept that ) , who would drive content?

The Conservatives talked in private, many of them, and a lot of have no desire to return. There's one staff member who clearly has it out for one particular ideology and that's not some kind of huge secret in the forums. They have concern he'll just dig through their posting history to find some jaywalking offense to retaliate against them. If the PSF reopened, I wouldn't post in there again. I did my part, more than my part, more than my share of heavy lifting to raise practical political discourse.

So it would likely be the same as the Discord, many asked me in private if I would post in the Discord. I said "No", so they won't go in there either. ( On an aside, beyond that there are personal attacks on myself in the Discord and it's been left up, there are also personal attacks on @Joe Bryant in the Discord that are left up. If there was any more evidence to Joe that he should keep the PSF shut, then there it is right there. It's not the majority, but it's happened. Here's some straight talk - If you are going to bad mouth Joe, do it to his face. Don't spit on him in private and then mollify him here in his own house. That's gutless. And to the FBG Staff member registered on the Discord using the same user name there as here - Some, not all, but some there are trashing your boss right in your face. Just being registered there sends what kind of message to everyone since the entire roster of people there have some association with FBG forums? You can't question people's conduct and demand they act civilly here and set that kind of "example" If I had an employee who couldn't make those very baseline distinctions, I'd fire them. But that's just me. )

So, if the PSF returned, odds are, it would be very one sided in nature. What's the point of "political discourse" when it's really only going to be one general viewpoint present?

And even if I wanted to do it, I probably won't live that long anyway.

The PSF, like everything else, was an opportunity. If some people wasted that opportunity, that's on them. I didn't. I didn't waste that opportunity. So I have no regrets about it. Everyone here is entitled to nothing. But there is still room to make the most of the opportunity in the Free For All. If some here want to see "better content" in the FFA, then start posting it yourself. I appreciate that @Keerock is driving some of these "What's Normal?" posts, at least it's an effort to create discussion for everyone. If you want something, give it to yourself first. Be someone who creates real value and a wealth of other value will always come back to you in return.

I miss the discussions but this place is way better off without it. It was just a reminder that people who are otherwise friends are willing to destroy said friendship over the different propaganda they each fell for.

Good riddance. There's plenty of places out there to argue the lies and BS with anonymous bots.

Yes, this brand. I can see why it happened, but I wish more reading had been done to put it in context before a suspension was issued. Like maybe check with me and see if I won't delete and issue a warning about doing that in the future or something. But I guess they gotta do what they gotta do. I disagreed with it, and I guess I'm hurt that it was reported in the first place. It was a joke, not spamola.

The moderators do their best but often don't get it perfectly right. It would be awesome if they had time to check in and start a thoughtful dialog with every poster that has a post reported and do the investigative work to make sure they're getting it right. But that's not feasible for us.

One out of a hundred ever believe their suspension is fair.

And it's likely cost us thousands of dollars over the years when we try to moderate the forums and wind up offending a poster who never buys our premium subscription again. The product that makes these forums possible.

And then the other side with the PMs and emails I get about how poorly we do for not moderating strictly enough.

It's by far the worst part of having a forum and if we ever do close them, that'll probably be the reason.

Also agree that @IvanKaramazov has grown into one of the best posters this site has seen. He is smart, even tempered (or doesn’t get upset at all) and just gives the best insight. I’m honestly in awe.

Some people are rough around the edges, I am jagged edged. You are the type of person that I aspire to be one day when I grown up. I mean that.
